I typically soak the slab in diesel fuel and light it on fire....once I feel like the slab is melted down to the actual card, I use a fire extinguisher to put it out. Then I pull the card out and use turtle wax to clean it with a soft brillo pad. Once cleaned, I submit the card to HGA and typically receive a Gem Mint grade. But that is just me.

What's interesting here is that Geoff was able to contact PSA about why his card was graded a certain way (15:33 mark), but us normal folks can't get an explanation of grades from PSA at all. PSA says they don't have that information, but clearly they do.

@@deep3reviews This is why you have to have a senior grader whose been grading for years... preferably over a decade. double check the grade before it is sent back to the customer. I don't know about PSA, BGS, or CSG, but as stated by SGC's president Peter to Geoff in that behind-the-scenes videos SGC does have a pair of 15+ year "veterans" double checking all the cards before they are sent back. It's not a perfect system but eliminates some of the subjectiveness of only having one person with potentially little experience.

I think PSA needs to create a new grading category outside of “Trimmed”. If a card is for sure trimmed then label it as a trimmed card. If they think it was mis cut or under sized from panini/Topps/UD/Leaf or whoever but not trimmed then it should be labeled as such and just just labeled as trimmed. Trimmed comes with a stigma of the card being altered which I think pushes buyers away for sure. A must cut or undersized label would not be a harsh in my opinion.

“What it means” is that PSA can’t tell with 100% certainty if a card is trimmed or not. That’s a problem. They got fooled on some 2021 nfl contenders autos and it went public and now they’re just throwing out that cards are “trimmed” it’s bs. We should expect more from the “top” company that we pay the most for fees and wait the longest for turnaround times.

Very true, especially when you advertise this practice, it opens a can of worms in my opinion, you wanna to keep submitting until u can deceive the grading companies so you can deceive the future buyer 😂. My eyes do all the grading I need anyways, if people want to pay way more because it says PSA 10 even though the card looks like the same as a PSA 9 or PSA8 or even raw, then that’s on them. Getting magnify glasses out is too extreme, I get it for vintage cards when people didn’t take care of them and whatnot, you wanna check for fakes or coloring, shit like that, but these days it goes from pack to top loader not to binder or bike spokes 😂

@@KMK623 grading the card really has nothing to do with the grade of the card. Like you said , there could be no difference between an 8, 9 or 10. If you never plan on selling, it probably doesn't matter to you. But say in 10 years you do, that 10 will theoretically make that card increase in value at a larger percentage than an 8 or 9. It depends on the card of course. I'm with you in that this crossing over of cards back and forth hurts the hobby unless there was a way of actually tracking this. There's cards that have higher pops than actual cards produced...

Glad you got back the 9.5 on the Tiger Woods, but for some reason the once "10" auto is now a "9", and the surface grade is now a half point lower. That, along with the Soto coming back at a 9... just shows how grading process can be subjective. It kind of makes you wonder how accurate the multi-stage grading process really is, and if in some cases you just have to get lucky... and have the right graders on the right days.

Its a flawed system but if buyers are willing to pay extra for a highly graded card then cardholders will continue to pay these grading companies for their subjective grades. Also once a card gets graded, it doesnt mean the card stays that grade but people still take the slab grade on its face value. And if PSA doesnt give subgrades, why are they most favoured than other grading companies? I have plenty of high end cards but still havent decided if I'll be a sheep and grade them like everyone else

Early on the grades show some good consitency between the two companies when it comes to the grades. That Soto just shows how PSA is 10 or bust a lot of times. Subgrades do matter.

I just had a card I got from a Prizm football break come back from PSA as trimmed. I put the card up against another prizm card and the card is the slightest bit shorter from top to bottom. I doubt the breaker trimmed it and I certainly didn’t trim it so I guess it’s just a factory defect

I bet that's it, brother. I got a Waddle black/purple /199, and it was actually a tad too tall for a One Touch. It was a tiny bit taller than my other prizms when I put them up against eachother as well. I just collect, so I should've learned how to trim it, cause I tried to trim it so it would fit in my one touch, and I totally destroyed it😂 Live and learn, baby!

Can you do this with the same card and get it graded at PSA, BGS, CSG, and SGC? Would be interesting to see how different the same card gets graded by different companies.

I'm not surprised about the Soto b/c it's not serial numbered. Essentially, they're looking at the card for the first time. The Tiger card is serial numbered, thus, all they had to do at BGS was look through their archives. That being said, why the different auto grade? Maybe they were punishing you for trying to outsmart them! Fun video to watch! Keep em' coming.

I use Burt’s card care wax to clean my cards. It takes the grime and dirt off. You can see the dirt removal on the microfiber cloth. Brings a good shine back to the card.

Cracked open Two BGS 8.5 Jordan Fleer RCs. Both with 9.5 centering. Submitted both to PSA at last year’s National in Chicago hoping for PSA 9s… Well… One came back altered, other came back trimmed…. I was devastated… 😭 So, this year’s National, I have resubmitted both to Beckett hoping for 8.5s…. They both received 8.5 but I lost .5 pts this time… 😓 It is a gamble for sure, so at the end, I simply wasted 1700 in grading fees… 😭

  • @GemRippers

That makes no sense that they came back 2 different things because trimming a card is altering it, right? Did they give you codes for both? And they charged you still for both, correct? I recently got back a N5 aka "altered stock" on a Ripken rookie for someone that ripped from a pack when he was a kid, and it's been in a sleeve & top loader since. But I also had an UD Brady rookie came back "EVID TRIM" but no code, too. But the most frustrating is ultra-modern cards coming back ungraded like a Burrow Select that we had come back with the N5. I just wish they would give you an explanation as to why they didn't grade...or maybe they do if you just ask? Like when I get upcharges, I always ask how they got to the new price and PSA is very prompt in getting back to you the comps used. But ya, nothing really worse in grading than your card coming back "gradeless". Great video tho, I am all about cracking BGS SGC HGA CGC slabs to send to PSA, it is a VERY lucrative part of the hobby if you know what you're doing. We have a video cracking an HGA 9.5 Brady Select Cosmic that really was an eye-opener lol

I will continue to learn from your videos and if you have any advise to share I would appreciate being pointed to read any material you suggest. Based on one of your most recent videos, you spoke with a new grading company, Transparent Grading Company, I was wondering if you learned more about them and why you may not be using them instead?
