Thank you for this. I am 64 and lost my wife to cancer in July of 22. We had planned to travel when I retired and last winter I said to my self "If not now, when?" So I put a make shift bed and plastic totes in my minivan and hit the road for 11 weeks. I returned and set about building my van for full time travel. I sold most everything and am setting out tomorrow! I've been feeling rather melancholy the past few days but this video has convinced me that I am doing the right thing foe me. Thank you again and I hope to see you down the road. PS. My grandparents had a cottage right off of Torch Lake MI that I spent my summers at.

This is so beautiful, my dad and I dreamed of building our vans together so we could travel together but he unfortunately passed away 4 months ago and now I'm here building without him and still honoring him... Count your blessings for having this beautiful experience with your dad

75 year old dude here...my 2015 Dodge Caravan is by far the best vehicle I have ever owned...have my little "home" in the back.. No mortgage, no hoa, no utility bills...I really love it....

Great video. I have a Class B van that I paid a lot for,so we could do exactly what you did. We did take it on a few trips up and down the East Coast. But we got lazy and used all sorts of excuses to put off continuing to travel for the sake of traveling, such as. " after we attend so-and-so's wedding," maybe after the holidays," etc etc. Thank you for the really great kick in the butt!

I'm 68, retired 10 yrs ago from high stress job as a result of cancer, but STILL going!! I can't wait to do the same to the 2016 Caravan I just picked up. LOVE the Stow and go, but now love the idea of taking those seats out for more storage! WHAT A Daughter! July 1st I crossed the Mackinaw Bridge, Henry Ford Museum, Cleveland, NFL Hall Of Fame, Flight 93 Memorial, Philly on the 4th of July, Top of the World Trade Center, circled the north east, Washington DC, Kentucky for the National Corvette Museum, Nashville, Florida Keys, Mobile, New Orleans, Little Rock, Four Corners, Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam, Golden Gate Bridge, Multnomaw Falls, Seattle Space Needle, Devil’s Tower, Rapid City and back to Wisconsin. 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan (Silver Bullet), added a remote starter for heating and cooling, removed stow n go seats and built a bed. 3,000 videos/photos, 13,482 miles in 24 days and covered 48 states. No Hotels, averaging over 500 miles a day, luckily with no mechanical issues. Chase your dreams, even if the destination is unclear! Subscribed

Really enjoyed your story and relationship with your father. My daughter and I did similar but on a shorter basis, she was only 12 but we built out our minivan, she helped where she could. Then we and her friend set out on our 14 state adventure from central Missouri to the pacific ocean. We visited many places along the way. My favorite was the mountains and camping in the forest at the Grand Canyon. This year we are doing it all over again but with different build as the kids need more room now. We will be dropping south to the Gulf, then all the way up the east coast, thru the northern states back home. 22 states this time. Only states left will be the northwest. Thank you for your story.

I have often thought of getting a dog as well, as it would be SOO nice to have a little travel companion. I have asked myself the exact same question though!! If I do get a dog, I'll just have to make extra stops for walks- maybe more trips to lakes or rivers for them to cool off. I've also looked into portable AC's that actually work- one of them is the ECO WAVE 2- which I've heard good things about- It's just a bit out of my price range for now. It is a nice sewing machine. Google the machine manual so you have the information for the future. Make sure to clean all the fuzzies out and oil it. Refer to manual. I have a 2017 Dodge Grand Caravan. I took out the stow and goes and put in a bed full back of the van 8" memory foam, very comfortable comfortable! Next I am going to tear it apart and rebuild to twin bed, table etc. so excited. Thanks for sharing your build! I wish I could share a pic of mine for you. I think we have similar taste. A wonderful video for many reasons. Showing how you built your van was very helpful but what helped my most of all was how you told your story. You have the ability to inform and inspire which is a rare gift. The photos of some of the places you've visited were a perfect conclusion for this video, they really make me want to get off the fence and do this. Don't skip Minnesota and Wisconsin they are absolutely beautiful! Try to get off the main roads as often as possible... many unexpected treasures off the beaten path. Have fun & be safe!

I've spent some time in beautiful Wisconsin- taking the SS Badger over from Ludington, but I would love to take more of the side roads! & I've only driven through Minnesota, so I will plan a trip! Your drawings look a lot like my drawings of my grand caravan, I had basically the same van. I don't live in it anymore, but I'll be converting a cargo trailer to play in soon.

I used 3" of foam for the mattress of my Grand Caravan, and didn't sleep so well. 1.5" of memory foam on top made all the difference. It's extremely comfortable and I sleep great! Nice video, thanks, I've got to see Burney Falls and Valley of Fires now. :)

Very Cool, I'm looking to purchase either an Element, Dodge G-Caravan or full size Van real soon to convert to my own camper/travel Van. I think the Dodge G-Caravan is probably the wisest choice. I love these Van build videos. Extremely helpful. Thank you all!

2003, we received a devastating diagnosis. Immediately, we acquired a 1996 Ford CF8000 commercial truck to convert to our concept of an ExpeditionVehicle. Over two decades full-time live-aboard. . On skoolie and other home-built forums, we suggest: * acquire a suitable candidate * toss in some car-camping gear * go have fun. Allow the conversion to evolve organically.

You have Coeur d'Alene,Wa. It is in Idaho. It's a mistake many people make though. I lived there in the 60's and haven't been back since. I understand it's a very large city now. I hope to get back there one day. I'm a full time nomad but haven't been able to travel as much as I'd like. Be healthy and safe travels.

From dye house experience back in the day, add salt to the dye it hold the dye to the cloth.

First time seeing your video contents and even just subscribed too. It's been inspiring, my dad and I went half for my 2nd van build conversion, sadly he passed away last year, I'm a little behind on the van build and been working a lot of hours, including overtime, and due the weather too. But, not giving up, and I may name this van "Sargent Big Mike" after my dad (he was a retired Army Sargent) because he was half financial partner part of my 2nd van build conversion, while I can do all the physical work on it that he couldn't do and whenever I'm done with it and have it travel and road ready the legacy goes on 😉👍
