While I do not understand exactly why we won't get the short wheel base in the US (it would likely sell well), I do understand the reasons for the LWB version from my own perspective: third-row seating. Please correct me if I am wrong, but the SWB doesn't have the third-row seats as an option. I can't speak for anyone but myself, but I want a third row for being able to install 3 car seats. 3 car seats across a single row is typically physically tight, and ergonomically horrible for the parent helping to strap their young children into the car. My back has been crying for the past four years loading my boys into my Passat, GTI, and to a lesser degree, the Bolt now. I only have two kids right now, but this vehicle is my choice if and when we have a third. The SWB would be a non-starter for me.

@@hereigoagain5050 ha! I wish I had. But “starving artist” isn’t just a cliche, you know. My one bedroom apartment on Haight Street was $150/month! I got my BFA in 1978. I had a tradesman skill (running a printing press) I learned in high school. That paid the rent. Then I went back to school and got a teaching credential (needed the Bachelor’s degree to get that) in 1990, as I wanted to do something meaningful. I taught elementary school for 30 years. Plus I was an adjunct professor at the local community college (photography) and lecturer at the state university (photography). All of that was a great experience. A few exhibitions, work in collections, a book, and years of immense satisfaction and challenges creating work. So, I’d say art school and the BFA proved very useful!

You commented several times asking "why would someone want a bigger version?" I am really excited about the 7 passenger version because I have a family of 6 and there are no EVs on the market that realistically seat a family of my size. This is the first EV I have seen which I am actually considering, but only in the long wheelbase version.
It’s unfortunate we won’t be getting the “short” wheelbase option. The biggest miss is that we won’t be getting the cargo version. I was really hoping to add one to our delivery fleet. Apparently we dislike wagons, hot hatches as well as cargo vans in North America. 🙄

If VW can build them in the states they will be able to make a cargo version. For now too hard to get chips and batteries. Long wheelbase loaded vans. Is what we will get.
A crazy comment at 3:20. We're basically teetering on a global recession with cost of living increases never before seen. This winter, some people will be chosing between 'heat or eat', so the comment is thoughtless and unnecessary. EV's are undoubtedly the future in one shape or form, but manufacturers seem to be showboating right now, almost like they want to show what they can do, but not actually make EV's for the masses at prices the average person can afford, and the average person *cannot* afford $70k and up on a car!

You asked why a longer base ? Those van were famous for carrying more than 7 people. In order to fit a third raw seat a longer base is needed. Which is great we need a big electric family car. And this one is going to be a big hit for family
I really want one of these (with a 300ish mile range) around 55-60k and I would be happy. I am just worried that the US price of this thing is going to push it out of the relm of comfort when it comes to price

We need a full glass roof, air suspension, and the 4x4 chops of the original Touareg L7, i.e old combi Syncro. Rear seats should captain chairs that rotate, slide front and back, and have leg rests. All that can be moved around on a floor track system.

Such "fun" versions are coming later, at least that's what rumours say.
I like how they integrated the front-facing camera down low on the front window. Too many newer cars have so many sensors in front of the rear-view mirror that it noticeably reduces forward visibility.

Yes, Congress needs to eliminate the chicken tax that has been in place since the 1960’s that prevents us from getting two seat vehicles from overseas
Maybe the longer one for the US will come with 3rd row seating! That would sell really well I think!
When the concept vehicle was unveiled it caught my attention. I think the changes to the appearance actually hurt it. Volkswagen should've made it look MORE like the classic VW micro-bus. That VW multi-van you pointed out is definitely something I will have to look into as I prefer PHEVs. Charging isn't readily available for me. I prefer the essentially unlimited range when you still have a gasoline motor to get you around after the electrons run out and there isn't a public charging station anywhere near.
I think it should be 60K max or it won’t sell due to its smaller size. People who buy minivans in the USA won’t buy something that much, but I am sure those looking for a lifestyle vehicle will.

In the UK we can now configure the ID Buzz for pre order. The prices quoted are £57000 to £63000 which equates to $68000 to $75600 at todays exchange rates.
Great video. Can’t wait for these to replace some of the suvs and crossovers we see in the US.
Dimmable light! Yes guys that rocks!
Definitely needs to have an option for regular double doors on rear instead of the lift gate.
@chillout1109

The cargo version has double side-hinged doors. It will be available in Europe and other parts of the world, but it won't be coming to the US.
Great video because of the excitement! I do wish someone would fold the back seats down with the add-on accessory platform in a video - I think it allows for a long enough flat surface to have a "bed" in there. For me, I don't need all the bells and whistles of a camper to go camping and I know this isn't a camper, but if it's possible to sleep in there and easily buy a platform/shelf (and not have to custom make your own), then that would make it totally worthwhile for me (was originally hoping for the rails, captain's chair swivelling, and table shown in the original concept vehicle). Because it's electric, I wouldn't spend more in gas/create more emissions while doing my city driving in a bigger-sized vehicle. It will be so unique in Canada - not many electric vans.
love your enthusiasm for EVs
The old style radar doesn’t get covered with slush so easily and I bet it has a heater. In my ID3, the radar is behind a body colour panel without heating.
my favorite feature about van is you can access the back seat from the front which this buzz offers.
Your Road test I enjoy the most
I do want that glass ceiling so we can see the stars when camping :)
nice cant wait for the test run
Love it! I do wish we had the option of the smaller Euro versions here in the US.
11:22 so it's a removable ice cooler that you can dump the water after the ice melts and can be used outside the van? Nice feature.
@rossr6616
2 жыл бұрын
should be a Thermoelectric Module equipped cooler; people would buy the Buzz just for that feature.
I'll be wanting one with a little bed and table. Hope they offer this!
Man, they should give the option for SWB/LWB. That length of 186” isn’t bad at all!
Our family is all electric except for a wheelchair accessible Dodge Grand Caravan for my son with cerebral palsy. I wish VW could fit this out for accessibility, and I would love to have it. I think it is a cool vehicle.
To me the buzz is the most interesting EV that we can order right now! Big inside, not to big outside and not an SUV. We had a Multivan when I was a kid and it was the best Family vehicle ever!
Hard to justify a large model premium when on a common platform. I've always loved the Bus driving position from first buses through our Eurovan days, so it's a winner for me if the crash tests look good and it handles 2M tall guys ok. Height wise seems like a Honda Odyssey, though with lower floor maybe plenty room in Kabin.
It's a huge bummer they're stretching it for the US market. I want with these proportions.
Would be nice to have a 7 seat version with some storage space. That's probably why is bigger in US. version. Love the Look! I'd love to get one! I'd daily drive it over my Jeep hybrid!
Hoodie / skate shoes/ hiking pants/ beard/ nerd glasses ! Everything covered.
VW ID Buzz needs to implement Vehicle 2 Load tech (like KIA/Hyundai)! Will make this the ultimate camper!
Why don't they let you drive one? it goes on sale in one month.

I have a 2023 Bolt EUV and can't believe the VW EV's don't have one pedal driving.....
As much as I love the Buzz, the size of the dual A-pillars is going to be bad at intersections for visibilty, just like my Bolt is now. Pretty much on par with most modern cars with the windshield extending that far forward though.
I love the idea of this vehicle! I have a Bolt, and love the size for 90% of my life. But on those 10% occasions, having slightly more room would be helpful. That said, I'm not interested in the larger N. A. model, which makes me pretty sad. All the EVs coming out are just too big for me.

@@HumbertoYi0878 True, when most Americans are cross-shopping minivans the SWB version would quickly be passed over because of no third row. But, the SWB version would be a great alternative to many of the SUV/CUVs that people are buying. yep, VW isn't the people's car anymore...
A couple of comments, not everyone can afford a $90-$100K vehicle, so that is bad advice to VW to price it that way. I hope the EV auto manufacturers make electric cars cheap enough for the masses, lower price is always better. Also, the current situation with chip shortage(s) is not the big issue anymore, I see thermoplastic supplies being limited (injection molded components) and other commodities that suppliers are having problems obtaining as well as getting employees is a bigger problem. I also think VW should market both wheel bases here in the states. Great review, keep up the good work!

Hello! Thank you so much! So fun to see this vehicle up close. I've been waiting for this vehicle for decades. (I just recently passed on my old VW Beetle.) I think they nailed the look and it seems like it will be practical. It looks like it has the same infotainment systems and steering wheel controls of the ID 4. That’s too bad. Who doesn’t like a volume knob? Hopefully the build quality will be better than the last generation of VW beetles. I’d want AWD and more horsepower. Not necessary of course, but that’s what I’d want. : )

The outside looks amazing. I am a little shocked at how small the windows feel in the back seat. They feel like tiny windows from the video and it looked like you were getting into a box instead of a open feeling van. Wish it had more of a panoramic large window feel but that would probably hurt the exterior aesthetic.

We're going to get the THREE row version in the US, not just the short-wheelbase 2 row version. We're also apparently NOT getting the cargo version, which is a BIG mistake. Perhaps VW doesn't want to compete with Ford's E-Transit. Is this going to be built in VWs Chattanooga production plant? 🤔

It's not the only one electric van. You have Vito from Mercedes and Boxer from Peugeot on the European market allready. The design is really cool (speaking of VW) but the tech is already outdated. The lack of competition is his only chance to thrive.
Love the creamsicle version
it should be able to fit a 4x8 sheet of plywood and be able to remove the seats. Otherwise its a station wagon and not a van
Excited about the evolution of EV's finally hitting Vans. Not so excited about the excessive Price. Don't worry, the Chinese are coming, they will produce a similar copy, at approx 20% less. Perhaps the Chinese manufactures will force VW and others to offer competitive priced options ?
Why is there a bench in the back? Why are these not separate seats?
