ghetto buddy: most of the time, a step mother is and can be the next thing to the devil. I’d say the mother should keep her kid. The father should pay (government mandated) child support monthly. The mother may be money/resources poor to her kid but she has more than enough love/emotional support to her kid.

Unless the dad has a criminal record, the courts will give him half custody. Let the mother bring up the baby alone.
