I guess it shows how far he has gotten in terms of his skills, adaptability and keeping his cool, I mean there are lot of players that excel when everything goes according to their plan but players who can salvage bad game are much more rare.

To think that Ace lost due to getting MELTED by a meme ability is peak Starcraft, ngl.

It costs plenty of energy to deal with light air units in average area - and those are very rarely the issue for the BC, while the alternatives are the Yamato Cannon (which allows to deal with actual threats, including ground) and Defence Matrix (that gives 300 HP in a pinch). It's not worth it - so no one actually remembers about it's existence until your muta stacks get hit by one in custom campaign.

Grant is a true shonen character, he was behind during the whole race, but took the lead at the very last moment, when it mattered the most, thanks to the power of friendship (and a nuke on his opponent)

There's an irony in the fact a mission called "True Colors" having to be color corrected

Probably the biggest difference is the damage calculation. I.E. Hydralisk deals 10 explosive damage in Broodwar. (reduced by 75% to medium, and 50% to small) In mass recall it instead deals 10 damage, (7.5 to medium, 5 to small). This may seem like the same, but when armor and splash comes into play, makes a large difference. Broodwar will calculate this % reduction after the initial armor reduction while SC2 calculates it before. So, if said Hydralisk attacks a "Marine" (Small) with 2 armor upgrades, in Broodwar it will deal 4 damage to it, while in SC2 it will deal 3 damage instead. I'm unsure how SC2 calculates 0.5 damage (I think it rounds down?), but SC1 does count half damage points. It will also still deal 0.5 damage in cases where only 0.25 damage is dealt too.

I believe sc2 counts every 0.25 damage and truncates anything past that ie: "rounds down" the processing and memory efficient way, rounding vs truncating is surprisingly resource expensive in computers even nowdays since it means a few extra steps come into play with _every_ interaction with the variable that has been flagged for it. ...more accurately I believe that the numbers on the game displays aren't quite the numbers that the game is actually running and it is instead truncating _everything_ and then kajigering things at the endpoint to produce a mostly accurate display. I am also unsure if this is modifiable, half a point of armor would make for a surprisingly useful balance tool with how it runs those damage reductions.

This is so cool, not only because I absolutely LOVE Mass Recall, but I recently showed a friend who had never played SC before the Mass Recall mod (because he wanted to play the Brood War campaign but didn’t want to deal with the jankiness of the original StarCraft). Seeing you guys do the race on my favorite part of Mass Recall especially after I completed it only recently was AMAZING

Good format Grant. Also, good competition - I remember watching the start of the competition day-of, before needing to go run errands or something and just being *so* impressed by the sportsmanship between the two of you.

I find it hilarious that grant's mistakes often lead to an unexpected advantage, he is truly favored by the Xelnaga.

i think grant has a massive advantage with the mass recall twist just in that he was played so many modded versions of every campaign that he naturally is just better at approaching surprises

*It would be fun if you took speed runners in one RTS game and stuck them in another RTS game. See how they react!* I remember playing Age of Empires and Battle for Middle Earth in my youth, then getting dunked into StarCraft 2. It was a culture shock for sure, but a lot of mechanics transferred over!

Battle for Middle Earth was so good and had some very fun custom PVP maps. One of my favorites was a tower defense one.

KZread's new "end card" behavior has been real annoying, nearly obscuring the game changing Mutalisk wipe. That aside, this was such a cool idea for a race with the sheer amount of improvisation that it naturally forces. Great vods and a great seeing the composed version here to see what was going on between both runs. Can't wait to watch the rematch!

That last mission was crazy. Ace had a lead from the beginning, but just couldn't seal it. Can hardly wait for the rematch!

I was gonna say where can I watch 7thAce’s perspective, then I notice its half an hour long. Then noticed that this is NOT the Archives. Then realizing that I have watched the VOD. I just fell asleep. Thankfully I managed to watch the whole thing, the VOD btw, and I can confidently say that Zerg wins this speedrun.

i saw this and was like “aw, thought today was another wings of memes” then it was a treat!

I believe that on Omega in Mass Recall (at least when I played it a few years ago) the UED hero Battlecruiser is bugged and will never be sent to attack your base like the other two heroes. This makes it probably more advantageous to go for Mengsk or the Protoss first. Mengsk especially is dangerous because of nukes and irradiate. It took me ages to beat that mission, even on normal.

Remember to get your antennae upgrade before ventral sacs

Grants ability to make a nice video out of this is outstanding, watching it live was very boring, since they both were so concentrated they didnt really talk or paid much attention. But Grant does it again and makes a masterful edit out of a 3h slug.

Less than 5 minutes into the video and Grant already has massive time loss from not saving the game. If anything, he is consistent.

Next time you should do a co-op speedrun so instead of competing you are working together
