They ended it looking in a mirror like this whole obsession was more inward than outward. They are two kindred spirits dealing with this unhealthy obsession of SOMETHING! Most of you have said it’s their obsession of their work and I AGREE! It makes the most sense so MAYBE that’s what it was all about. I still stay by my claim that the song is up for interpretation though, so that it can relate to anyone with an unhealthy obsession of something! It can be a person, a possession, or a career/hobby. I love how they leave it open-ended like that so you can make your own assumptions or even relate to it yourself. God tier lyricism!

When they were making the song, they mentioned that even though it's about compulsion, they want to make it ambiguous so that Stay can think they are obssessed with them. And Chan always says it's more fun if we make our own interpretation than when they tell us the answer, so we are all correct. Also whenever there are any sexy sounding lyrics Chan always denies his involvement, so he claims it was all Hyunjin and Hyunjin says it was Bangchan. We all know it was both of them.🤭 Also Channie is the 3rd shortest after Binnie and Han.🥰

You make me laugh so much. That cursor hahaha. What I love about this song is that SKZ did a series called Howl in Harmony (SKZ song camp) where you see the unit songs (this song too) get made. That’s what I love about SKZ. They show how they make their songs and the ideas. The best part is watching the other members react to ref lights through earphones. I love your videos. PS It’s a good song and lyrics when it can apply to many things for each person.

I interpreted it as Hyunjin taking control over his cravings. At the beginning Chan has the chain around Hyunjin and when they do their choreographed dance in the hallways they are side by side identical to reach other. Also when Hyunjin is choking Chan it’s not with much force or grip, while Chan is much more forceful. Then they meet at the table and after than Hyunjin is only tied with ropes which shows less restraint that chains, indicating he’s gaining more control. After that their synchronized dance shows that Hyunjin is closer to the camera than Chan like he’s getting away from him, and then at the end Hyunjin has his hand around Chan’s neck so now he’s in control. I thought this was a beautifully made song and video.

LOL, yeah, Hyunjin is the tallest, along with Seungmin. Binnie is the shortest. Most of them are, um, pocket sized. We stan short kings. Chan just walks like he's 6 ft something, lol Highly entertaining reaction. was waiting for you to discover the belly chain, lol. :) this one gets everyone. To finish the "golden trio", there is Drive (Chan and Lee Know) that's just about driving, yep, just driving. Bangchan is actually one of the shortest members, most of skz is pretty short actually. Chan is 5’7” and so are Felix and Han, lee know is 5’8”, and Changbin is 5’6” so he’s the shortest, hyunjin is at least 5’10” but he said he grew over the past year or so so he might b taller, and I.n. Is about the same height as Hyunjin now, and seungmin is 5’10”

@@jokir5305 well for Chan Felix and Changbin we know they’re 5’7” and 5’6”, but for the others it’s a rough idea based on what we have. Jeongin seems to b closer in height to hyunjin and seungmin now and Minho is a bit taller than Han so safe to assume he’s still 5’7”

IN has grown too. He is close in height to Seungmin. Honestly, it is hard to know with them. Half the guys wear platforms (and I bet some where heel inserts) and Hyunjin doesn't and slouches. Half the time Hyujin makes himself look shorter than others.

Strongly suggest you watch Howl in Harmony, where Bang Chan and Hyunjin discuss their songwriting for Red lights. It explains the collaboration and how well they gel with music appreciation and the theme.

Chan is notorious for gaslighting us about song meanings. he mentioned it was about being obsessed with work. they wanted to portray a toxic relationship. or battle against yourself but he also said their songs are open to interptation for the audience so they're just playing with our heads. they don't mind ships though. they play into it and acknowledge them openly so don't worry about if you ship them or all of them. there's of course fans who work themselves up about it but whatever.

Red Lights introduced me to SKZ and remains one of my favourite songs. SKZ love to put multiple interpretations into songs. "Gangbak" - the korean name of the song, means obsession/compulsion and they wrote it during their Howl in Harmony series so we actually got to see them come up with it. The core of the idea was the relationship with their art, that idea of practicing all night and seeing your exhausted reflection, but still going an hour more because you cannot stop. It's seductive but painful sometimes. But they also said they wanted a double meaning of it could be about a person, and to try a sexy aesthetic. Fun fact- Novvkim directed this video, he has done quite a lot of SKZ B side videos and also appears in the Howl in Harmony series. He's one of the few publicly out gay directors in Korea I'm aware of. Chan and Hyunjin actually came up with a lot of aspects for this video, but there is also a mirroring theme and there is a very amusing moment in the behind the scenes where director Novvkim is like 'Bang Chan will now choke Hyunjin' and Chan is like 'what?', but when the reasoning is explained he's fully on board. Chan and Hyunjin definitely had a lot of fun making this video and getting to show their full on sexy side for the first time. And now we have an OT8 version of Red Lights they perform on tour, with staging largely designed by Hyunjin. They are all chained by the neck. It was certainly an experience being on twitter the day they performed their first concert. Oh, and idk if you've realised yet but yes, Chan is shorter than Hyunjin. Hyunjin is the tallest in SKZ, but in general, all of SKZ are tiny. Personally, as a fellow short person, I absolutely love it.

The title for this track in Korean translates to Compulsion…so it absolutely could be about an obsessive relationship. Chan has said that they are using the sexuality/relationship angle to help convey the intensity of emotion that one feels when dealing with obsession. Chan and Hyunjin both struggle with obsession when it comes to their art….they love it and it’s the thing that sustains them but the constant need to perfect their craft and the never ending drive to constantly create, quite literally keeps them from sleeping at night. They love to create…they need to create…but that need is so strong that it ultimately controls them and often they suffer because of it. Chan especially, is relentless when it comes to working on music. He also struggles terribly with insomnia, and has been open about the fact that he rarely sleeps. Instead he often stays awake all night working in the studio. Red lights is a reference to the red studio light that comes on when recording is in progress…but of course red lights are artistically linked to passion and lust and other sexy thangs too. There are so many layers and dualities when it comes to these guys and their music. Chan himself is the same way…Bang Chan/Channie is the everyday, hardworking, shy, goofy, lovable man we see all the time. But every once in awhile, mostly onstage, the feral, sexy version of Chan breaks free…he’s known as Christopher!!! 😅😅

(My first time being taller than my bias😭☠️) 171 - Bangchan, Felix 169 - Han 167 - Changbin The kids are pocket-sized🥰Even Chan sometimes calls himself tiny/fun-sized but the members who work out a lot look tall when they are away from other people.😌 Last year they got a new make up artist, who is short so we finally got the photos of the kids having to lower themselves so that she could reach. We celebrated.😅 You should look up Chan hugging their manager at the airport or just write tiny bangchan and you will find the most precious photos.🤧 Seriously him being a reliable leader with a hot body makes up about 10-20% of his personality, the rest is just him being the most adorable human.🥺

It's about their toxic relationship with their work each of them in their own way, chan have insomnia because of work going on 2 days with hour or two of sleep is normal to him he's a perfectionist and dose almost all the work willingly and hyunjin since he started from 0 he literally know nothing when he was a trainee he grew an obsession to perfect every thing he does cause he had comments from his friends to not work hard since he's gonna make it with his face anyway

Bang Chan has said that he doesn't like "explaining" the story and concepts of their songs and videos so STAY can interpret it in their own way. So in my mind they wrote the song initially with their compulsions and their addiction to work as inspiration. But the lyrics were so strong that they decided to rewrite some parts. And as a plus they added some ambiguous lines to make the song sexy...

Red Lights Korean name is Compulsion. You picked up on it beautifully. I won't repeat everything others have said, but Chan is ALWAYS working, and Hyunjin is a dancer (along with all of his other talents) - so obsessive work habits are a thing. Although, I think all artists have to deal with obsessive behavior at some point. Thank you for recognizing the beauty of Hyunjin's vocals, he has this soft tone that doesn't get highlighted as much due to their style, but when it does ... I think it's lovely. Also, welcome to the Hyunjin is a bias wrecker club. At some point, they all end up as a bias or a wrecker. I get wrecked regularly. They are all gorgeous, but when Hyunjin is in his zone - good gracious.

I'm fairly certain that while the song is about obsession, it's more about overworking yourself and obsessing over work and projects rather than a person. I'm not 100% certain, but I feel like I heard this somewhere and it makes total sense considering the workaholic Chan is! I'm not totally sure how some of the MV fits in with this, like the dinner table, etc. but "you know I just can't leave you alone" and "set the mic up" make me think it's really about Chan's passion and determination to keep writing and producing music even when it starts to damage his health. It's also possible Hyunjin has a similar experience, hence how the two made the video, but I don't want to make assumptions about him! Of course, it's definitely up for interpretation as well, this is just my take :D

I love watching your reactions because it really makes me think so much more deeply about the lyrics and meaning behind the song. As you probably already read from the million other stays who most likely mentioned the fact Bang Chan loves to tease stays knowing very well what we are asking. But when both Hyunjin and him did say it was about their obsession with work that really connected more to me. I am very much someone who gets so obsessed with my work and I tend to overwork, sacrificing a lot of my basic needs like sleep or eating. This is something Channie has talked about before during his lives. But even though I overwork myself and am so stressed out and know it is bad for me I still can never just take a break. It's like when I have a break to myself and I'm not stressing I hate that feeling so much and crave that busy schedule. FYI, I am a psych major and so I tend to look at things very introspectively, with this song in particular the lyrics really dance with this idea of night being day and day being night in the sense that with obsession the reality of time and your well being really just get thrown into a whirlwind. The video itself has so much that each time I watch it I seem more and more symbolisim to this idea of obsession and knowing it's bad for you yet still having such a strong craving for it. The way they look at each other throughout the video really plays on this idea of how with anything in life we as humans tend to either externalize a lot or internalize. In those moments it almost seems like they are looking at their obessions and just focusing on it as something externally put on them. They look at each other yet, its more so that they aren't seeing each other but are seeing themselves. In the end when they look in the mirror it almost symbolizes the idea of introspection and how they are not looking not externally for answers or understanding but within. The one thing that I really found interesting in the music video is when they are on the bed being chained and struggling the other stands above. It reminds me of sleep paralysis and the icky, terrifying feeling that comes with it. It feels like you are trapped within yourself and no matter how much you try you are stuck in this place. The person standing over almost gives this idea that though you are begging for a way out yet everything and everyone who are within your reach can't and don't help you. You feel trapped. You yourself aren't even helping yourself and so it's almost this metaphor of watching yourself drown in that pain and obsession. This is just my kinda thoughts on it all lol Love your reactions so much and your passion for music and the complex components that make up music. It makes me so happy to watch your reactions and see someone so passionate especially someone reacting to Stray Kids lol

5:20 the height gap between hyunjin and the other 7 members (maybe not seungmin who's 3-4 cm shorter than hyunjin as much) is so funny to me. Changbin and Han are like 5'6; Chan, I.N, Felix, and Minho are like 5'7; Seungmin 5'8; Hyunjin 5'10. MoaStays say that TXT's shortest member (Taehyun who's 5'10) is the same height as SKZ's tallest member and that Changbin is 20cm shorter than TXT's tallest member Soobin. It's a very fun inside joke because SKZ and TXT members are friends especially Yeonjun & Changbin, and I.N & Beomgyu and SKZ look like cute chipmunks next to TXT when they interact.

There is a video where we can see the initial process of creating the song (they discussing the theme, the lyrics and the vibe they wanted for the song and Chan showing the track he made for the song) and another video showing the mv recordings. With this we know that, yes, the central theme of the song is "obsession", the direct translation of the Korean title is "compulsion". In the video where they show the initial process of creating the song, they start talking about the things they are obsessed with and Hyunjin mentions dancing and Chan mentions production. But they also wanted it to be a sexy song and at the end we have this lyric that leaves it ambiguous for interpretation as to what the object of the obsession would be, it could be anything. The lyrics are ambiguous, but the whole atmosphere of the mv makes us think of toxic love relationships. In the end we can only categorize it as being about a toxic obsession (either with something or someone). I also remember that one of them (Hyunjin if I remember correctly) said that the song is also about ego. The MV director commented that he wanted to show Chan and Hyunjin as, like, mirrored reflections of each other. In the end, all your theories are correct hahah it will depend on how each person prefers to interpret it, exactly because they wanted to leave room for multiple interpretations. Hyunjin is, infact, the tallest member in Stray Kids (at around 5'10), and Changbin is the shortest (around 5'6). But Stray Kids are also known for being rather on the short side of male Kpop idols

Hyunjin is actually a very good vocalist and i think the op who made the intro guide missed that accidentally because none of his vocal parts were added but there r some vlives and also MVs where he sang and now even some his solo releases i love his singing voice so much

Great reaction! You said last 20 seconds and I was like 🤦🏽‍♀️... Yes Han is an Ace with 5 star vocals and rapping skills but we are not kidding when we say all 8 can sing and rap. There've songs where Seungmin, I.N and Lee Know have rap line. You've heard most of rap line sing now but Felix does too and he has his own song called Deep End that shows his skills. Also if you react to any of their dance practices you'll see that as a group Stray Kids are known for their complex in sync choreography. Danceracha is always pointed out of course but a lot of wachers comment on Han style and charisma. This just solidified him as a Kpop Ace
