So as it should be nobody expected the Alpha Legion were next. When I started writing songs for this project I came to the conclusion that a XXth legion song wouldn’t work and I was not going to force one. About a year later I was re-reading Horus Rising and the opening line “I was there the day” + the lodge saying “I can’t say” stuck with me. I wrote down “I was there the day and what that is I cannot say”. That was all it took and the lyrics just flowed out. Out of all my songs release this might be favourite. The lyrics and music follows the concept of twins. The two guitars in the intro, the unison guitar + keyboard solos and lots of backing vocals repeating the same lyrics. There’s a number of ways to interpret the POV but I like the idea it’s Alpharius on one side “I want for nothing” and Omegon on the other finishing the sentence “I care for not”. In short, and without suprise, The Alpha Legion song was not what you would initially expect. Beyond their surface level nonsense The Alpha Legion's schemes (when not self-sabatoged) often turn up results that project so catastrophically that when they finally happen, it ends badly for everyone not directly benefitting from it. The song starts subtle, ramps up out of nowhere in its build-up, then never looks back as the vocals both dominate the other elements, and confuse if you aren't paying attention.

That novel and especially that line was a big influence for this track. The idea of saying something and then following it up with a contradiction or double meaning.

Oh man the opening solo is magical, and then the drums come in, like sustained bolter fire, methodical like, very fitting for the Alpha legion, the vocals just complete it, I really the Puppet master the beholder part. You really captured the spirit and feeling of the alpha legion, which is hard to do even in text or art, let alone song, major props!

Nice!! This is one of my favourite songs too

It’s so fitting that this song lyrically plays around with double meanings. I like the Sears of Eternity line. The Alpharius and the Alpha Legion attempt to be “seers,” predicting things to come and sabotaging their enemies, thinking a step ahead and so on. To sear is also to burn something. If you go on the premise that Alpharius went traitor while also taking loyalist actions to “break” the Cabal’s prophecy, then Alpharius could be seen as trying to save the humanity by joining in burning the Imperium down. It works with the rising from the ashes imagery in the lyrics. It’s full of double meanings and contradictions. Very Alpha Legion.

It’s so awesome to read comments like this. I was wondering if people would dive into my lyrics, especially this song. You’re spot on with the seers part. The follow up line “the crux in the path of divinity” also ties in with it, are they talking about the Emperor turning into a God or Horus and the powers of chaos. Either works as they are visualising and insuring humanity’s future.
