Exactly what I was thinking of saying…but who wants to inflate his ego more by saying “hero?!?”

I used a comic bag with a cut out for Stan Lee to sign. These people are doing hundreds of sigs and their focus is to finish the pile.

Years and years ago had heard of Rob Liefield's reputation. Had him do a sketch, and had no problems, In fact in line all day at comicon, Had to go back next day, and he made sure that we did not lose our place in line from the day before.

I really think he thought the black would look better next to Todd's white Sig. Placement isn't the greatest, but I'm not mad at the color

He seems to have gone to the Stan Lee school of signing things.

I have an ASM book, signed by Stan Lee with a gold level and a CGC 9.8. Unfortunately Stan signed with a black marker on a black spot and you can’t see a signature. You get a little squiggles here and there but if you look at the book, you have to look really really hard. I know exactly how you are feeling.

Most of the time, these guys have a lot to sign and aren't very concerned with particulars! Sometimes, it's best to not say anything, just be grateful he signed it! Signature, is noted on the slab, no?

Not sure if you mentioned it, but I normally put a sticky note and tape for any messages for slabs with the pen colour, and so far I've gotten what I had asked for. For that book that had the McFarlane sig already, maybe he was pissed at Todd while signing your book 😂.

I was thinking the same thing. He might not like Todd anymore and did the black little signature on purpose . Strange that the other 2 are bigger signatures

You’d think he would want to do a bigger nicer signature to outshine todds if he was disgruntled. I think he was in a hurry and doesn’t care. He gets paid regardless. Rob sucks as a person.

I got blocked by him last week on Whatnot. I had the audacity to ask about why every comic I was sent came damaged. Mind you, this was in private message. 🤷🏽‍♂️

Liefield has always been a diva

I went to comic con in 2017 Boston, My main goal was to meet Tim Curry and Rob Liefeld to sign my New Mutants 98 comic. Rob Liefeld didn't show up on time twice. The 2nd time I had an appointment with tim curry that kept getting closer. Finally, he arrived I was 2nd in line, about 40 minutes late , they asked if i wanted the comic graded to which I said yes. My comic had zero damage completely mint condition ez 9.8-10. Soon as Rob signed it with his marker he picked it up and started waving it back and forth bending the comic and making creases on the bind. went down to a 6..... I was completely mortified. I had that comic for over 20 years in my possession waiting for the day i could get it signed. I have never been back to a comic convention since, not just for this reason but for many.... but this solidified it for me.

Went on one of his whatnots and saw him block 2 people cause they said they thought Ryan renolds was the best thing to happen to Deadpool. He flew off the handle and banned them. What a jerk. Guy can't draw and has no people skills.

I like Rob Lighfeld I was on WhatNot 4 months ago. I said maybe Deadpool would fight MCU cause of Deadpool kills MCU. Then he Blocked me. Wow. I listen to his podcast and got a lot of my books signed by him.

Actually just got my books back today. on 10/10 (CGC day) ha. Sent 3 copies of new muntants 98 newstand (9.8,9.6,9.6) , new mutants 87 newsstand (9.6) and one direct (9.8). Pretty sure my note was something like just don't sign in black. They all came back signed in black. whatever. So it was big day for me. Thanks for asking what I got, really wanted to tell someone, ha!

Blocking you was indeed an extreme reaction. But in Rob’s defense, it’s a busy cover and I don’t know where else he’d sign for it to really pop. I think if he’d signed in white, it would have blended with Wolverine’s claws. Anyway, it looks good.

His signature is HORRIBLE anyways. It’s a no care scribble. Screw that. With that said, the 9.8 collection will be incredible.

Do you recommend having cgc do pressings? I’ve heard mixed comments but sending my books to a random person to press feels a bit off

I haven't ever had any of my comics pressed by them. However, before learning to press, I had advised a friend to send in her Batman Adventures #12 (first Harley in comics) and it came back 9.4, and after looking at it, it truly didn't look like it had been pressed. If you can learn to clean and press yourself, do it. The less time anyone has my comics in their hands, the better. First I'd recommend you learn yourself, or 2nd see if anyone around your area cleans and presses, or 3rd, sent them off to a cleaner and presser, NOT CGC or CBCS.

I think it hurts more that Todd's signature is so nice and legible.

He blocked me on whatnot for asking too many questions 💀

I can understand from both sides, me personally, I always create and cut out my own window bag with notes and color requests even when I send in a slab, and CGC did or does use them. He probably got annoyed when you asked him to “Pay Attention”, still no excuse to block you though…

Lesson to learn, because I do it all the time, make your own window bags. I do it for any of my graded and non graded books. I write above the signature box (that I made) the exact color I want. I’ve had a total of 2 books come back wrong. Both were wrong colors but nothing like yours. One was blue instead of white and another was pink instead of silver. Both did the book justice though so it wasn’t a loss.

The funny part is : you paid more than 100$ for the signature. I think we have the right to be dissent about most everything. I am waiting for my 2 chiseled signature in new mutants 87 and 98 .

He popped in a FB post in the comic book group. Someone was calling out the way he draws Wolverine. I would assume he blocked most from that thread too ha.

Another excellent video. I have a NM98 there now that he signed. It’s being pressed but should be done any day. Did you go to the Annandale show this past weekend? It seemed significantly less crowded to me for some reason. Hope you have more videos to put out soon. Thanks

Often, it's very disappointing either meeting or interacting with your "heroes". Rob Liefeld is a classic example. I typically try to avoid the ones with large ego's, and who draw small feet ! 🙂

If people were paying me for my autograph. Then complaining about were I put it and what color pen I used. I would block them over the Internet with out thinking about it.

I got new mutants 100. It’s not back yet, but online it says, 9. I also send in Deadpool. #6 special cover of Deadpool, a Captain America that robbed it and only sold on what not. I was able to get that before I got blocked. Lol 😅

It is important. I have a Star Trek TNG VHS of the first episode that i am getting signed by the cast. I wish I could share a photo. So far each actor used a different color and stayed away from like colors of the box art. It is perfect

You should see the abomination I received back from the Frank Miller signing. Black/White/Red cover. Attempted to sign in a black sharpie that didn't work with the cover stock, so he ... Traced over his own signature with a BABY BLUE paint pen. And if you know how steady Franks hand is, imagine him attempting to trace over his signature..it's horrible. $150 down the trash.

I know how you feel. I sent a copy of Raphael #1 in for a Kevin Eastman signing and remark. The cover of the book is black and reddish brown. He signed it and did the remark in orange.

I love Kevin but ya my only bad experience with a CGC signing was with him. He signed and remarked my copy of The Last Ronin over a dark area in faded silver sharpie that you can barely see. I was so bummed especially having Ben Bishops sig and remark beside look so good.

Saw the Insta and had to come watch. 😂😂

Congrats on the grades and sometimes you take a big chance that you get the color you want, the only time I find that happens is when I give the paint pen to that person, but I understand

That’s unfortunate happy you got all 9.8 though I 100% agree with you the CGC signings aren’t cheap when I sent to Alex Ross I requested Gold or Silver and I got Silver and it looks beautiful the Timeless variant covers have a lot of white so if he signed in black it would’ve been fine But it absolutely would’ve looked better in white or a signature on the green above cables head A very silly thing for him to block over he could’ve simply said sorry I have to sign them quickly and didn’t realize my signature wouldn’t show well but again he is an artist and should know what colors don’t show well on top of each other

I just sent Young Blood #2 and brigade #1 to NYC comic-Con for Rob to sign. Even though I’m still blocked. I still enjoy his work. I agree w you.

Rob’s reputation precedes himself! Sorry to hear that. Did you request a certain color marker? I just submitted slabs and raw books for a CGC signing. My LCS told me to always request a color and signature placement (even if the artists ultimately don’t oblige). Otherwise they will phone it in and do black on black. (And yes, even on a slabbed book, he included a window bag and marked out on the case where to sign.)

I did have a window bag for the slabbed comic with instructions. But it seems CGC didn’t include it. Regardless, common sense would say use a light color. Match the Todd signature, even if the note was lost by CGC. AND it doesn’t excuse a reaction of being blocked when I provide some constructive feedback that was completely non-offensive

he "ruined" my book too w a bad signature - same deal - signed beautifully by todd mcfarlane - signed sloppy by Rob.

🎉 You never know but maybe he was handed a black pen with a white cap on top and he started to sign and realized it wasn't white and stopped but then finished it because he knew he couldn't "fix" it. That might also explain the sig was small.

Jesus christ i can't belive how much he makes to sign a book. Thats just mind blowing to me & if i paod that much of course id wanna be able to see it and if not expect an explanation. Sorry you were blocked but suppose its hes way or no way? At least todd signs the books like he gives a 💩.

Is it a coincidence that he did it on a book that had McFarlane’s signature on it? It was more than likely intentional. Especially since he did white on every other book. His ego gets the best of him. He literally talks crap of every other artist esp Toddfather.

That sucks that the person u support did that . I had a bad experience too with him I had order a holiday pack from him about 3 yrs ago it was like $400 or 500 bucks for a few sign comics . I was excited to get them it took like 3 to 4 Months for me to get them and when I finally got them the condition was horrible of all the comics and signature were in horrible places just like yours . Ever since then I have pick anythig up from him I still think joe quesada is my fave from that era . Be safe

I was watching whatnot, and he was talking and someone brought up Todd and he jus went off about Todd, it felt like there was some bad blood or strong dislike for him. My guess is that the black sig was done on purpose because of Todd. It’s been my experience most artists have a placement n color they like to do. It’s a shit thing to do but some people let personal feelings ruin it for others.

That is very childish but really not surprising to be honest from the way he has acted towards others in the past. You really can’t read that signature either 😂

He blocked me from Whatnot after I spent over $225 for a signed Pop figure. I said *nothing* wrong and I'm 100 percent sure of that fact because I know the way he is.

I like McFarlane’s signature matching Cable’s color palette and Leifeld’s matching Wolverine’s. It feels like it was deliberate to play off assigning characters to each artist by a simple color choice.

Damn buddy he did the same thing to my New Mutants 98 at the NY comiccon 2021came out just as sloppy, white would of been so much better. Now I know to actually be more discriptive in the future.

Thought about sending in my New Mutants 98 in a 9.8, but I was to afraid it was going to get knocked down!

Rob Liefeld's art style is like Andy Warhol and Van Gogh, impressionist!

I have heard some artist won't use the same color as other artists on multi signed pieces.

Rob needs to see this and apologize! Cool books though.

Don't understand how a comic can get a high grade after a signature, the comic technically has beem ruined with someone writing on it regardless of whos signature it is.

He went to our local shop for a signing and I went out of my way to avoid it, just because I knew there was no way I could be there and not make a pretty nasty comment about his giving Captain America cleavage.

Liefeld made his name ripping off other artists and recycling his old “artwork”: he still doesn’t know proportion or anatomy but his line quality and detail got better.

Had the same situation in his whatnot feed. I he asked a question about a cover he was showing and i honestly answered my opinion. Wasnt even his cover. No hatred, no derogatory words at all. He blocked me at that instant because he didnt like my comment. Rob Liefeld has no spine. No back bone. He never will. I will never purchase anything from him or by him again. He robs, lies and failed for sure. But i felt what you felt.

I truly wonder how Rob feels about the things about Deadpool that people love the most were things that Rob had nothing to do with. The version he created is not the Deadpool people love today

I guess a lot of people have been blocked by Rob. But it really isn’t a big deal at all.

He was blocked after mentioning to Rob, that he could be more conscientious when selecting the placement of his signature and color of ink used, respective to the color of the artwork that it is being applied to.

Wouldnt pay .01 cent for anything Rob Leifield today. I grew up om him too and it was a large part of my collection. I sold a shortbox full of em for like $150 recently I just wanted his trash art gone, looking back it he was such a bad artist.

Great results. I like listening to Rob but he can be a jerk at times to people which I don’t like.

The most hilarious part of this story is that you’re actually surprised. Liefeld is genuinely one of the most insecure people in comics. The guy litterally just wants to ride on his accomplishments from 30 years ago and be surrounded by yes men telling him how wonderful he is. McFarlane’s the exact same way. Grown men acting like children.

I haven't seen or heard much evidence that McFarlane ever mistreats his fans. But Liefeld goes on YT channels, social media, and does his podcasts, and he never ever stops adjudicating the past. Never stops telling everyone how much money he paid his artists, how rich he made them. Never stops trashing Alan Moore and McFarlane in the most passive-aggressive ways possible; and never ever stops talking about the "glory days" when he was churning out terrible comics at Image that he still thinks are certifiable works of genius. His act is as stale as his work.

I have always been a hater and this is further reasoning behind this. I can't support that massive tool.
