I've played WoW since vanilla was retail, but I have almost NEVER been able to play enough to participate in end-game content. I have a job and a family. I LOVE this! FINALLY, I get to at least FEEL like I am finishing the game!

Yeah. The game is outrageously time demanding. It's hyper-focused on interaction to the point it pretty much excludes anyone with a life.

Jokes aside I am happy after BFA, Shadowlands, and to a less extent Dragonflight, we have a much more positive outlook for the next expansion.

I do like that they are trying to turn the game into a RPG again, rather then a min max competitive dungeon crawler. Whilst I do love M+ and Raiding, I do wish the game featured more RPG mechanics and themes that made me want to play the game outside of the dungeons and raids. I did feel like dragonflight tried this and did well, upon launch I had nothing but praise for blizzard (and still do) for this expansion. Really hoping War Within follows this positive trend.

I am so excited with the changes Blizz are making, and have made, for those of us who primarily play solo. The changes in DF meant I can get in and see storylines in dungeons, and I so hope that story mode for raids follows suit.

If story difficulty in raids is a success, YES. STAY. I will literally renew my subscription and keep it on and play forever.

Bringing Alts was the first thing I thought of when I learned about follower dungeons.

So long as the story queue actually has players who favor slower pace and story, so it won't just become LFR 2.0 but allows more story telling.

The follower raid/dragon’s dogma discussion really reminded me of the WOD garrison system. Almost like something they could have built off of it if WOD was better.

Yes warbands can be 5 man teams to to delves, dungeons, and raid for story mode. This would make wow so much better and make leaving alt have value as there your party you building

I used to raid in Vanilla through early Wrath. But now days I don't have time to raid. I've found LFR pretty frustrating. But I've often wished there was a Story Mode for those who want to experience the story lines.

Yes I think the raids should be scaleable for solo raiding. Plus you should also get the your get your classes gears thats drops from bosses so you don't have to fight 25 players for one piece of gear that you pray drops and I think the Rais should differently be like delve and have npcs that are involved in the raid to help you. I think that would be an awesome addition now they just need it fir the whole game that way new players can enjoy the game and not rush to the end expansion unless they want too.

we will def be able to do digest with our alts, I bet well even be able to swap between them during the dungeon where as soon as we swap the previous controlled alt is now AI follower mode and so on as you switch between the alts and main.

honestly I kinda like the cosmetic idea like I wouldn't say oh drop mounts but maybe just a story tier set were it's cosmetic but it's unique look were it's easy to come back to and work on collecting

Just got back in, and perusing KZread. Couldn't agree more with everything. Subscribed about the 4:25 mark after saying yes a few times. Story Mode would be the first way I'd raid each patch religiously. Sounds amazing.

Alt followers!! Yes!! I had that exact same thought. That might also lead to moggers having another level to work at -- coordinating the mog sets of an entire team!

I am excited for story mode. If i can get basic set from it ill be happy. Time to go threw the story and looks of the zone. And M+ for the higher gear.

I’m in two minds in regards to the story mode - I agree that it would be awesome to have a scaling raid fro solo to full raid team, but I think just to keep the raiding culture up that perhaps only 3 levels of difficulty should be available to “story mode” story, LFR and normal. Any higher and they should be doing group content if they want the gear - or go to the specifically designed Delves. As for the Alt system. I love the idea!! I’ve always hoped it would eventuate, it gives purpose to raising alts other than trying new race/class combos. But once again unless it’s delves, the difficulty shouldn’t be higher than normal - otherwise go to player group content.

This is a great new feature for someone like me who likes to raid casually and do dungeons on occasion, mainly just to see the story that is in it but i really don't have the time anymore to get more deep into it. I can't stick to a schedule anymore, which is what most raiding guilds demand. This way, i can take it at my own pace. Im a happy camper right now. Although it would be better if it was entire raid, if i read correctly it is just going to be the final boss on story mode which i guess is fine if you just want to see the raid finale cinematic without having to do the entire raid so in that way its great but i would like an option for all bosses because bosses usually tend to drop some lore bits sometimes in dialogue while you fight them. Also, a small gripe for me personally is that they are waiting until final wing of LFR is out to release this which IMO is a bad idea because by that time people like me who only play now days mostly for the story are going to tap out of the patch at that point. This is one of the things i always had a problem with LFR, its painfully slow release schedule. It should all just be fully released the same week when other difficulties drop, there really is no point in timegating this

In terms of npcs being able to learn tactics, I think a 'bot realm' should be tested. A realm where there are NO restrictions on what scripts can do, or query from the API. Human players could send in their own bots, or their toons, or just go in as an observer. I think Bliz has an observer mode -- I saw something in a list of API commands that implied that, as a way to watch tournaments. The only restriction for such a realm would have to be, nothing earned inside that realm can be sent outside -- toons, bots (converted into toons), gold, or other loot.

I think we could have an opt in system that allows your to 'rent' out your character for this. That way you dont have to gear four extra toons.

I would love this as I solo but I’m not that good so I can never get good gear. Also I love Death Knights but since day one I’ve always wanted my DK to Duel Wield like Warrior because it was would make my DK feel and look badass . Plus I want my Artifact back I really miss it

FFXIV does such a great job with putting Raid Bosses into the story and telling the story. I always come back to wow just because the game play is so, so much better.

This sounds like a fabulous idea I would love to see this be done for every raid in the game the new ones coming in the next expansion and the old ones we’ve already done. Reminds me of the pit of Saron storyline with the Jaina and the three dungeons leading up to ICC it would have been so great to continue like that instead of the rage quit stress mess that ICC turned a lot of guilds into. This is what should have happened instead of the looking for group/raid that did happen.

Besides enjoying the story in the story mode you can also learn without pressure the Mechanics of the Bosses before you decide to go into the real thing with other players so you can just take all the time you need enjoy the story and learn what to do if you are deciding to jump into lets say heroic or Mythic or normal. So I think the story mode could be a really good thing for a lot of people casual, story enjoyers or new players even. Great new addition from Blizzard.

As someone who pugs through at least heroic every expansion, my biggest issue with raiding is the time demand and the gatekeeping. It's a pain in the ass just to get into a raid if you're new or a returning player, because few will take you without having already done the raid. This alone wastes tons of time in addition to the sheer amount of time wasted just waiting for the raid to fill, people to be replaced, etc. The model is simply antiquated. M+ is perhaps better, but only marginally, as it's common to spend large amounts of time trying to get into groups for the same reasons. And then there's all of the toxic players too. (My ignore list is literally full.) If it were an option I'd probably do everything solo, at least some of the time, to save time and avoid the cancerous playerbase.

Looking forward to beta. Hopefully they make it so no can skip cinematics, etc It could potentially provide blues that have a long upgrade path. I've been playing how Holly described for years. I don't like being soft locked when I know those quests are available. I will quit until catch up mechanics let me play how I want

Honestly, the most wholesome and based video. Its good to see the technology from Exile's Reach bringing us more solo content. I brought my husband into WoW, and my mother, but given they're brand new to the game, I dreaded bringing them through pugs because I know what they're like and it'd break me to have my autistic, 50+ year old mother get laughed out of content by heartless sweaties, so, to me, this means I can bring friends & family who are new or aren't confident through the story content without worrying about guilds, strangers, queues and timezones.

I genuinely hope they make a story mode across all expansions. I have a friend who recently wanted to play because hes interested in the story. He did tutorial island and was immediatly lost as to what to do. He wanted to play the game canonically in order of release, he didnt want to play classic as he wanted to play all of it. I would personally love to make a character and play through BC to DF as almost a solo experience. Make it feel like you truly are the hero of azeroth as opposed of being 1 of 5 million heroes of azeroth. I know im basically asking for a solo game but as a man whos 32, i could care less about being meta. I play the game for the story these days. Sorry. Long comment.

If blizzard adds gear it could be quest level gear

Without wanting or planning to, i took over lfr, normal and even heroic raids as leader, just because i had tactics to share. If you incetivize players like me to help others you will see more people enjoying the raid scene, i just do it for fun but not all are like me

No worries! Looks like they just announced the "Power Within" Passive system. This looks to be a new passive tree that will exist only during the lifespan of the expansion. Gear will randomly drop with empowered slots that you can place these passives in. Half of them look obviously OP, but about half look like they broken and effectively do nothing. You get some of your powers just for logging in at launch, while others are locked behind M+, Mythic Raiding, and maxing out all professions. Looks like they've added a pre-order bonus too where you'll get the Helm of Power that contains a unique "Powered Empowered Slot" that increases the effect of the passive you slot in there. BTW, it seems like it's bugged currently. Oh, and they confirmed the powers won't be account wide, but you can of course send the gear between your characters freely.

I don't think you should get any player power from the story mode rewards but wouldn't personally mind if you could get e.g. LFR mogs as cosmetics from it.

Follower raids would be great.

I want very much for the game to really lean into warband content. Similar to how FFXIV has the fantasy of being able to being any class, I think WoW has the potential to fulfill a party fantasy of having your own group of heroes a la Baldur's Gate but more tailored to the player's tastes. Dungeons, raids, and delves with your warband would be amazing.

I just want to do raid with 3/5 friends and have the same loot. Don't care if it's more mechanis or harder, i just want to log on and laugh while doing my raids.

For someone who play the game now only for the story, Im really happy about this. Needed to do LFR or find peoples to form a group when you just want to do the story kinda suck.

Turns out it's just the final boss only.

FF online does this. I am glad Blizzard is finally catching up. The wife and I like to just play together to see the story.

The thing is, that most players are simply not having time to do raids with a guild at a set time... And the next thing is, that lfr (especially when the raid is new) can be harder than heroic raiding, depending on the mates you get. I think normal and mythic raids should be taken out of the game. LfR becomes Normal and Mythic becomes HC. That would raise the actual raiding players by a lot.

It's about time Blizzard returns to making an mmoRPG (Emphasis mine) that allows the 90% of their playerbase to experience everything, in some way. So happy to hear story mode is coming, its been asked for for AGES. Just like with Follower dungeons, I hope that it gets expanded to ALL raids in the game, both future and legacy, to allow solo players to not have to rely on others just to experience a massive part of the game. Especially with how toxic the raiders and dungeon runners can get if you aren't rushing like them, or don't do the rotation they think you should do. I like the social aspect of the game. I do. But, I miss when it was actually about communication and strategizing. Now, they just need to undo the level squish, and stop the forced progression in the game. Let me experience this world you created, guys!

How about your followers from previous expansions?

I love LFR, just like I love Alliance Raids in FFXIV. In both, you have to figure out what to do, or you will die. It is that simple. Also, “watching a guide” have you ever raided normal or higher in WoW? People expect you to have watched a guide for that as well. Most people don’t bling prog anymore. Also, same in FFXIV (savage and higher mostly). If you don’t like that content, don’t do it. No one is forcing you too, or anyone else. There’s plenty of content in both games that I don’t care for, but I am glad it exists for people who do like that content.

Don't get my hopes up... I'm a solo player, if I could use my warband as a team, I'm imagining BG3, I would be a very happy WoW subscriber.

all of the above should be allowed, everyone can enjoy things then. love the idea that your Alt's could be V.I.'s (virtual intelegences, rather than A.I.'s) and learn from you, even teach others. but that might be a bit expensive to add right now. (later, when most of us players are going it alone tho lol..yeah, good way to keep us around and playing) and i really like the idea of using your own Alt's as your followers. It's good i can finaly go into dungeons with hirelings, like i could in the good old (OLD) days of Guild Wars one. I can maybe get my crafter quests done now. (everyone i know in game, has migrated to other games, including my input, and he's not big on wow anymore) i don't care if all i get from the dungeons (and RAID's) are cosmetics. Infact, go ahead and make a single achevement for us folks lol. 'Play it again' 'You have done the dungeons and RAID's alone, with hirelings. Now try it with people' and what you get is a cosmetic tee that says when looked at 'I did the content with followers, and all i got was this lousy Tee' people are becoming more and more 'loner' in their playstyles, so if mmo games are going to keep up, it's worth investing in the OPTIONS to keep those solo types. (after all, a solo player's sub is still money.) i've seen how players who were full time RAIDers turn into family folks with no time to keep up, and eventually they have to choose. (invariably choosing their kin in the meat world, over their clan in the digi'verse) so offering this kind of option can help. kids grow, jobs end and you get older, eventualy having more time to yourself. this kind of option allows older folks to still return to a game, even if its a 'part-time' kinda thing.

For me, the story mode is perfect.

I don’t know if this will be good for the game, but I agree that LFR doesn’t really work for anyone. I would argue that a lot of people who claim to not care about the story actually do - the story provides the context and backdrop of your activities in the world, raids, dungeons, etc. whether you are focused on it or not.

Let's just have a story mode, with famous npc from the story, not unlike the follower dungeon: much simpler to implement! Maybe get a transmorg equivalent to raiders in a different colouring. This way we can watch a strategy and participate, to learn before lfr rather than a written strategy or a video. It doesn't affect raids except in a good way: new players will know the story, the layout and the basic mechanics eg boss has 3 phases, or calls in adds, or the doors close. If some wing or bosses or instances can become solo challenges, that's ok too but not necessary as soloists of world content who want to raid can join lfr and a raid guild. If they don't, they won't annoy raid teams by joining and dying, wiping the group or competing for loot they don't need except for looks. Also give them the mount, so carries for gold can stop, putting more gokd sellers out of business. WoW is trying quite a few new ideas and it's wonderful that casuals, soloists and players of world content and even lore fans get to enjoy the game.

Everyone hate lfr, people that dont want to do LFR, but need for BIS Trinket or Tier Set hate it even more and usually become toxic about it; and the new player's learn nothing in LFR Tbh i would like something that give me a bonus when i do Heroic without doing Normal, its shit when u need to do the Low contenter just because you missing a item that could drop from the Low diffucult that you can do

Story mode could be really good but I need to see how they end up implementing it. Similar to story in general… I'm hoping they finally find a way to do some decent in game story experience but I have no way to truly know until I can experience it. Warbands are the thing I’m a bit hyped for though I’m really wanting those for all past content from all expansions so hopefully they keep expanding it. I do wish they’d remove lfr and redesign normal raid to be the queued version. Too many raid tiers. What makes it difficult for me to shed my blizzard cynicism are things like their horrible “screw the players” response to the mop remix frog incident. Let the exploiters keep their benefits and leave everyone else to deal with the impact. It ruins dungeons and raids enjoyment having supercharged players in them. Then the other issue of feeling of getting weaker and weaker as you level up to 70.

I like almost every thing about TWW and love the idea you ventured into. I have one big issue with TWW though. It's the hero talent system. I like the idea and the basics of it. My problem with it, is that it goes too specific into certain talents. This "forces" everyone to adapt the same talent build, which effectively removes choice. Why even have a choice of talents, if everyone have to choose the same talents, to benefit from the hero talents. It's a mess and I don't like it.

Sad to see how a mmorpg like WoW turned into a single player experience over the years even if you can still play with other people the social aspect that the game had in Vanilla-TBC-Wotlk is long dead.

Now to go to the forums and read all the posts complaining about a feature that has absolutely no downsides.

Problem with LFR or anything in games is that there is no way to police poor behavior. Gamers and by extension people will always gravitate towards poor choices without having boundaries and people or a system to enforce them.

Yeah drama queens have to drama and you found a way without anything to complain about. Once it drops I am sure you will find plenty to whine about. No worries or doubts about that.

I'm yet to see anything exciting about TWW, largely due Blizzard gradually destroying my love for WoW over the years, but i won't judge until it's out, assuming i even get the courage to try it out, being extremely apathetic as i am. I cannot stand their game design direction, it's repulsive, anti-MMORPG beyond measure as i see it. Unlikely for that to ever change, since they are clearly set on designing the game as a sweaty, competitive e-sport than prioritizing RPG aspects. Basically,, i have 0 expectations, Blizzard destroyed whatever faith i had in them ages ago, but...i guess ill still give them the benefit of a doubt, perhaps there will be something remotely interesting.

Blizz did WHAT?!? Give me also armor dyes to the game crafted by this far most useless profesion (no I dont even think about archeology) and it will be perfect

One of my oldest rants is that we don't need LFR we need a Story mode. LFR should not exist if you want the story or want to complete the quest you don't need loot, and if you want loot you should be expected to get off your butt and do the work to join a group not be auto-queued up. At least half of that has finally (in theory) come to pass and people who want to experience the game without the frustration can do just that. I again just hope there is no loot/gold farming allowed through story mode. If they ever get to the point of just having Story, Normal, and Mythic (or call it Heroic but have the scaling benefits) - that's all they need. As far as solo-player raid content that gives rewards, I don't think that's necessary. Or there needs to be clear defined boundaries between rewards (and not just transmog variations). It's no different if we talk PvP or Open World (which is where I thrive), some things are for me, some things are not, and that's perfectly fine. Blizzard gets into these bad patterns of balance hell trying to make everything for everyone.

The expansion is a way off yet. Time will tell what actually comes of it. I admit i look forward to it. I never expect perfection from anything or anyone. I look instead at how they respond to the flaws.

Whats the point, LFR already exists, do we really need a 5th difficulty mode. I don't have anything against solo players, I enjoy playing the game solo myself, but I prefer when the world is solo friendly instead of group content being retooled into a single player experience. We already have an issue that the "World" of Warcraft is dead, thats where solo players thrive, out in the open world, running into other players naturally. We already had the issue with WOD when everyone is in their own private instances the world feels dead and no one feels connected to the world. They should spend more time on making the world more engaging instead of recycling raids for the 5th time over.
