You'll want to thoroughly clean then prep the lap by scoring the surface. Then apply the diamond paste, dress with the boule, and it will reside in the grooves providing much longer life between charging. It will cut like a banshee in comparison. I like that pavilion cut!

@@2degucitas can use knife and put scores in. (box cutter, razor, etc) It is like a light score, you aren't putting big deep valleys into it.

Yep, they like them rough or cut. I have to be careful not to leave stones where they can get them or they start batting them around.

I haven't been cut in long. I base that Pinon off in the aluminum oxide on the inside of the stone that hasn't like fully melted or has gone too far one of the two. Because I get that orange peeling with Montana sapphires. I do not get it with Ruby Veil sapphires from australia. I go from a 1200 one of the crappy laps. 2 a 14,000 diamond grit on a copper

Good info. I took a break from Faceting . Didn’t have the right laps or polish 😂. I got frustrated and when I get the right combination of laps I will try again

There's many options, but I think the most affordable is to use toppers to 1200. Then you just need a master lap and a polishing and maybe a prepolish lap (I cut over 100 stones before getting a prepolish lap). Diamond is the most universal compound for polishing. I find it works with everything, but some people say cerium works better for some stones like quartz.

Good morning, many people say that topper 3000 does not work as a pre polish, is this true?but many people say they are used 240 ;600 : batt łap with 8000 and last 50.000 it is work?

@@MikeG-js1jt sure, you could. For some reason, I don't hear of too many people using copper for final polish, but it would work. I used tin because that's what I already had and know it can polish anything. Another option would be to create a dual lap, where you'd score the copper lap in a circle about 60% of the way to the edge, then use 3k or 8k on the outer rim and 50k or whatever final polish on the inside. Then if you didn't like it for 50k, you could put prepolish over the whole thing later

@@DonohueLabs I ended up buying 2 of these.... worked out super well after burnishing in 3000 diamond on one and then 60000 on the other and using wd-40 when it starts getting a bit "dry"... I really didnt feel like buying a tin or zinc lap, they can be a little pricey..... nice final polish on both nanosital and corundum...... going to try spinel next.... I assume it should be fine too.

@@MikeG-js1jt I expect it should be fine. Glad that's working out! I'd suggest switching from WD-40 to sewing machine oil or Gearloose's Snake Oil to avoid the nasty fumes (WD-40 is toxic long term)
