But what he is saying there is "They are sacrificing themselves for me, maybe one night is not that bad". Griffith used to sell his own body to nobles so he could have money and food for the soldiers. Not defending him for whatever he does later, but before all the torture he was a little less of a shitty person.

you always interpreted very well the songs, but with this one i got be honest, you let your misconception and pre judgement of the character interfeer, you see, griffith was quite likeable, he was odd but he helped a lot of people with his smarts and the band of the falcon. Thats the most tragic, sad and infuriating part of this story, he had a family and good friends, but always put himself above. Before the event of the eclipse there was pretty much no reason to hate him, he was guts friend, and he is tortured you should feel very bad for him, but them, later he sacrifices everyone for his own good, and becomes truly despicable.
