Very Nice Organman. On the last part of the turnaround, at our church, the bass line is Db-C-Bb-G-Bb-C-Eb. How does that fit?

as a musician that reads and play by ear I can agree with only part of that comment...i completely with you that all musicians should learn how to read music however i do not believe that playing by ear is pointless...in most gospel churches playing by ear is what sometimes keeps you alive because not everyone sings a song the it should be or the way it is written in the hymnal...thanks for the comment, u have sum nice vids...God Bless

I've been playing piano for 36 years and i know for a fact that in most churches i have played for did not require the musician to read. Even though i can do both, i choose to hear the music instead of reading it. As a minister of music, i don't require my musicians to read. i want them to be able to create, to not be boxed in. I may not do the song the arranged way. besieds, most musicians i know don't read. It's not pointless. God bless those who play by ear and those who read music.

That is like saying that without learning to read words it is pointless to speak. I agree that reading music is fundamental, but in most charismatic worship settings it is unnecessary: players are excused but not exempt. Today, in jazz, it is necessary to recognize chord symbols(theory) and interpret a lead sheet, but before transcription and "fake books" tunes were learned from aural tradition. This form of learning lends itself to more extreme mutation and improv by the interpreter,

Musicians need to learn to read music, not learn by rote. Playing by ear is a good skill to have, but without the ability to read music, it's pointless.
