I just drove my 90 240 wagon from Reno Nevada to Boise Idaho and back last weekend. Over 1200 miles total no problem. My friend Les lived in that car for almost three’s years to be able to afford to pay off his student loans. He gave it to me before he moved to Mexico City. Great rides these.

Love these old Volvo 240’s. My fave is the 245DL estate, I had 2 of them; hard to find now though. The body shape, built like a tank, with that massive bumper, they just feel so solid, comfortable, dependable & practical.

Very neat video. A lovely car. I did not have to find my 1990 240DL wagon. Ma bought Arthur new as her 60th birthday present to herself. She put the first 300,000 km on him in 25½ years. In the 6 years I have had him, I've added another 300,000. The original automatic transmission is still working perfectly. The old boy does about 8.5 litres/100km. Not bad. Arthur does like to cruise at between 125 and 130 km/h, so that fuel consumption is not bad. I plan to retire in 5 years, and when I do, Arthur will make the 5,200 km, 4 country drive. Should be fun. Between now and then I want to drive to the Yukon Territory to visit my brother. Just over 10,000 km round trip. No car better for those trips. Rugged yet comfortable.

@@Involvod I don't know about your red wagon but what I have seen of European and especially US prices in comparison to Australian prices is that they're comparable. But a more interesting trend I have seen is that prices, particularly Australian prices, are rising. I would bet it is the trend in Euro and US. This is the price for 240/740/940. The cars are getting fewer as they get broken for parts or wrecked or condemned by rust. And the interest in them is increasing. I have a 940 and a 240 from the 90s and I don't plan to let them go.

@@Involvod I've become something of an authority on 740s by virtue of the fact that I've owned and maintained mine for so long; I only expected to keep it for three years, but it's stayed around because it hasn't ever gone seriously wrong and it's such an agreeable car to own and drive. I must be doing something right, as up until last week, I used it as my daily driver for 2,500 miles (after my Saab 9-5 Aero suffered terminal gearbox failure in May) and it was 100% reliable :)

Nice! Good luck with the search! I think it took them a while to become cool and rarer as they made so many of them and they lasted, that's why they were only worth $500 for a long time but now it's all changing, to people used to these cars they are getting really expensive now, but I think you're right, for a 30+ year old classic car they're still worth paying thousands, compared to the price of other classics and to be honest here in Europe it's hard to even find 80's / 90's cars anymore

However I have had one particular 240 for almost 20 years that has always sounded identical to this car and I've never known what it is. Initially it concerned me, and it is the only red block I have that sounds just like that.... But 20 years on no change so I don't worry anymore. I have a 91 white 240 GLE with tan leather seats. Luxury. I just love it. But my first car is a 93 940 GL wagon. And I'm keeping both despite flack from the wife. Of all the cars I have owned it's these Volvos that I have enjoyed driving.

looks like a nice example did you say what the miles/km's are on it? honestly that engine sound may well be very much less with just a proper fresh oil and filter change. i just did a change on my '91 244 and it reduced the noise by 50%. it had a gone a year since the last change but hardly any miles (about 3k at the most due to covid lockdowns). try it!

I forgot to go over that, it's just like the other one I filmed, 270k km's on the clock but it stopped counting. I'm planning to put a new motor in this one, but will try an oil change, I think it was last changed in 2018

@@Involvod You’re welcome! I’m liking your content, and thanks for looking out! I’ve been fascinated with these cars for sometime and finally decided to pull the trigger. It has one owner and sat in an old garage for a lot of its life recently. They have it listed for 5k which seems a bit steep for US prices? I like the idea of the new fuel pump and ac compressor, and that might be why it’s a bit higher?

The fascination will intensify when you have one, I always liked 240s but since owning one I'm absolutely crazy about them 😅 I think if it's rust free and genuine mileage maybe that's not too far off, but I've asked a couple of guys that know the market better

I had a response from one guy "Hmmm. Without seeing pictures I would say it's easily $2,000 judging by milage alone, unless it's got a busted odometer. Sometimes clean and beautiful examples can run upwards of $6,000-$8,000. It also depends on where he's located as well. In the north east where I am from. They tend to be worth a bit more than in middle america. Big cities in places like California they can be worth higher values than somewhere in Alabama or Georgia. I know that's probably not a huge help. But if it's running driving and stopping I'd say $2,000 is a minimum." So maybe their pricing is not far off if it's a really nice example. I'm sure you are aware but have a good root around for rust, front floor pans, rear arches, rear spare wheel well, trunk panel behind the lights, rear chassis as you can see in my 'rotten 240' video, if there's rust you can see there's always more! Good luck let me know how you get on!
