A beautiful coop! We're currently building our first coop. Due to our location, we did a few things differently: doubled rafters (snow load), vinyl on the floor for ease of cleaning, and will need more complex locks as we have intelligent, pesky, dexterous chicken-killing raccoons who could ace your locks. Love all your health & predator protections you've installed. Excellent job & gorgeous coop. Pampered girls, for sure.

Really nice! We also have 2 4x8' shed roofed chicken coops. A slightly different configuration because we have mobile nesting boxes (egg crates) allowing us to move broody hens, at night, into a specialized private kennel set up specifically for Momma and babies. So my entire 8' back of my coop opens up for cleaning. If I had to do it differently... I would have recessed the doors and made them out of a lighter material (they do sag a bit after 10 years) and I would have adjusted the height to that of a wheelbarrow. We may actually do that this fall. I hope I'm not being too forward but I do have 2 recommendations.. hardware cloth windows with plexy glass, hinged, drop down windows (one in the frame of the door and 4 between the frames of the back wall); because their egg laying is dependent on light exposure. Also... they make slide locks about a foot long... that would allow you to attach the slide to the framing on the door and stil make the distance to the loop on the coop wall frame. Also... be careful of the run fense being too close to the coop because they'll fly up on the outside of the nesting box structure and use it as a platform to fly onto and over the fense! Mine did that with a trash can of feed I kept too close to the low end of the shed roof on the coop and would innevitably get into the garden. 😑 All in all that coop is amazing! Brilliant job!

Thank you, I am very pleased with the results. I'm glad we got the chicks when they were a day old so the kids can watch them grow every step along the way. They've really gotten to enjoy them.

Do you still like the set up? I wonder if it isn't quite difficult to clean the part in front of the chicken door by crawling beneath the roosting bars.
