Pretty cool! The one practical thing that's always an issue I see with these types of machines is that in reality, they're not very useful if there's some manual input such as turning the EV3 brick on or off. To make these useful, they should be hardwired to house power, and there could also be an option to turn them off remotely (such as building a separate unit that turns the machine off). However, they get too bulky and get in the way of things. As a concept however, they are neat. I'd suggest making an automated curtain/rolling shutter/blinds opener/closer, and perhaps a machine that folds clothes - pants, shirts, socks, etc.

  • @BrickMachines1

Thank you! With the sleep timer set to infinite they never turn off, and they have external power supplied via a wall outlet or they can alternatively run on batteries if that is preferred. So these devices don't need any interaction to keep running 👍 Oh a clothing folding robot would be sick! Nice idea!

@@BrickMachines1 It could work, but I think you should do the curtains or blinds ones first, since A) they're easier to make and B) they're more useful.

Door lock was definitely the coolest. No doubt. Maybe do some sort of Smart TV thing out of LEGO. So like the EV3 would use the TV remote to change channels or turn the TV on, but you wouldn’t have to be in the same room to use it. Basically like a remote extension using the EV3 hubs. Also, I LITERALLY JUST THOUGHT ABOUT DOING SOMETHING LIKE THIS THE DAY BEFORE YOU POSTED THIS VIDEO!!! but hey at least I can build another thingy I thought of

Thank you, the door lock was a ton of fun to do! Oh nice, the Smart TV idea is an awesome one! And I think there's an easy-ish way to send IR signals from an emitter connected to the EV3, so maybe it wouldn't even need the remote... 🤔 WOW, no way! It's crazy how that happens sometimes. 😂 Thanks as always for your comments. They're much appreciated!

Maybe it would work best to have the books on an iPad or a Kindle, and then have a way to have the robot turn the pages by swiping left and right. I was in the hospital once in a bed next to a woman that had a bad accident and was a quadriplegic. I thought it would be great to be able to have a way for her to be able to read a book on her own. It could be set up by someone else and then she could control it through either voice or some other method. Just some thoughts… (… Or Cindy could even use it, if she’s in bed and doesn’t want to reach her hand up to swipe right and left! 😀😴)

Once again, excellent builds with excellent presentation. Are you using Micropython to code the bricks? Also, do you have any specific resources to share on how bricks can communicate with each other? For the video performance, my only reccomendation would be to use background music to easily get your viewers in the right mood.

  • @BrickMachines1

Thank you for the comment and the insight! Yes, MicroPython is used to program all the controllers. Here's a link to the documentation on communication: pybricks.com/ev3-micropython/messaging.html Thanks for the tip! I've experimented with music on some videos and not on others. People seem to like it better without, but I'd like to try some more and see if that changes. Personally I like music in the background too! Which smart gadget was your favorite?

I think it would be cool if you made a timing module that automatically locks a door (say your front door) after you leave or after a certain amount of time like 5 minutes. Maybe you can also add a simple system to disengage the automatic lock so when you’re bringing groceries in the house and have to make multiple trips then you don’t have to unlock the door 50 times.

@@BrickMachines1 Maybe you could use a light sensor near the doorknob to trigger this, since your hand will reduce the light level.

These gadgets are so cool you inspired me to make some with my nxt although I will have to control them with my computer since I don’t have two nxt. Can I control the nxt with my iPhone?

Thank you so much! Yes, I know there are ways to control the EV3 with an iPhone, and I'm sure you can with the NXT too, but I haven't done it before. Which gadget was your favorite one?

My favorite gadget was the hand washer. If you find a way to control a nxt with a i phone I’d love to see you make a video on it. Thanks :)

Thanks I love that one too! Yeah I'm certain there's a way to do it...maybe there will be a project where I will have to figure it out. I use NXTs over EV3s sometimes because they have different pros and cons, so I wouldn't be surprised if that need comes up at some point. Do you build with NXTs a lot, or is there a project you're working on?

The only thing I really built were the standard instructions it comes with such as the robot the color sorter and I built a Rubiks cube solver. I think I could make some gadgets like yours if I could connect them to my phone to control them.

Nice, a Rubik's cube solver would be awesome and challenging! Oh yeah, you could totally make some gadgets! What would you "gadgetize" at your house?

Thanks for the comment! I have a few EV3s and NXTs which let's me keep the builds together for a while, but eventually I do take them apart. It's a good question and I'm glad you asked! But that's partly what I like LEGO for...getting to create something new from the same parts 👍 Did you have a favorite gadget in this video?

Ah, nice suggestion! I was wondering if there were too many levels of menu...oh yeah I remember why I did that. For the next gadgets, like a thermostat or something, I wanted to have like "Temp Up" and "Temp Down" so eventually not everything will just be On and Off. Still you're right, it would be simpler right now to take that level of the menu off! Awesome idea!
