Hey everyone! Thanks for watching and all the comments. I wanted to make a post in regards to some of the common questions, and give a teaser for the follow up. I have put the original transformer back and and even applied 220V, no change. I used DC, no change. I replaced some components....change. I have a second unit now I am building with better components...stay tuned to see how that works!

I have one. Got it working. Much better image quality re full height an width. I did not use the transformer at all I power it purely with a wall wart. Ended up putting heat sinks on the vertical defection transistors as they were getting really hot. Felt like the coils and transistors were not a good match. CRT is dated 1999 if I remember. Plus I never got the speaker going but I can live without the sound. I love it because of the whole China TV feel of the kit. Use it for my ZX80/81 and pet clones.

The power supply voltage is too low, that's why there's a small raster with not enough width and height. And seems to be poor regulation as well. Suggest checking the voltage on the emitter of Q2(regulator transistor), it should be 10.8v. Also check the collector of Q2, it should be 12v or more. It might be the 110V VAC transformer you substituted, isn't providing enough voltage for the TV.

I want this kit but the problem is that is very expensive and the glass from the CRT can be breaked during the travel. A very interesting video. The image is very stretched in the screen, you have around 10,7 volts in the output of the main regulator in the power supply, the problem is that the manual is in Chinese.

For proper image sizing and alignment you're going to need to adjust the yoke which is a physical process, not an electronic one. The only shot I saw of your yoke was from just out of the package and it was just tossed on the tube unseated to park it somewhere. Once you get all the aligning magnets adjusted, use a little acrylic paint on them to keep them adjusted. To be an Apple repair technician back in the mid 1980s you needed to be a pro at the alignment procedure on 9 inch CRTs. Also: The original transformer has bell ends to shield the windings and I noticed your replacement transformer is unshielded. That will make a big difference with magnetic interference.

I hope new CRTs can be made somehow! What you’ve done and what you’ve been able to source are a good start, but I hope we one day see a future where we are all guaranteed to be able to play games like Duck Hunt, Dr. Mario etc the way they’re meant to be played! Someone on Facebook just told me “new CRTs are impossible to make, making the leaded glass required would break environmental laws worldwide”, surely CRT glass doesn’t need lead? Surely there’s another way? I agree we need to reduce our carbon footprint, especially in light of how hot the last 2 summers were (which were the last 2 winters in the southern hemisphere) but I still think there should be ways we can still enjoy doing what we do, while still not harming the environment! I’m sure people once said there’d “never” be an animal-safe substitute for ivory, but many have been found over the years since!

😁 you need to check the H and V controls, some times a capacitor is working at lower capacity, a leak may occur. I've seen that problems on trinitron tv's on 1987. The schematics on that time had some test points and also a small signal chart to compare via oscilloscope. just like alldata for diagnostic car's computers. Mainly problems on TVs: leaking capacitor, empty capacitor, open wiring, cold solder, broken solder, over heating transistor, missing ground, inverted wiring, wrong transistor or defective. Fortunately I still have one 5.5 TV which I've used to see satellites signals on 1997 in open field.

The transformer might not have enough VA to run it, have you tried using a 12volt wall wart? I would check the voltages for example Z1 and see if you're getting around 6 volts and check Z2 and see if you're getting around 33 volts. wouldn't hurt to check the transformer when it has a load and see if it's bogging down. While thinking about it doesn't China use PAL video?

The voltage seems to be too low. I have some portable 12v tvs and if you power them with 9v, 5v, etc, the picture shrinks and becomes distorted like in your case. Tracking down what part is supplying/recueving the low voltage is the hard part

Only had a quick look, so you've possibly covered this issue. I'm wondering what the line number is. Are you driving it from a typical North American 525 line source, or a 625 line one? Or can the set be switched to either? It would seem strange to ship a set with a 525 line standard (used in the Americas) with a 220 volt transformer.

You definitely have a power supply regulation problem, plus there's a hum bar going through the screen....if you had a good schematic with proper voltages it would be easy to find where the trouble is. It's a cute little TV.... definitely check the regulation of both low and high voltage supplies. The audio should never pull the crt pix down. Check it out.... you may have bad electrolytics as you said. Esr meter would check if they were good. Best wishes.

This would be worth sending it to shango066 to see if he can figure it out. This would make a really good video on his channel. Just by looking at it and learning a lot seems like the B+ is low maybe from the wrong value resistor or bad cap on the regulator circuit. This also helps spread out the deflection when the B+ right on spec. It also helps with the high voltage needed for the flyback to work properly. I seen many videos that looked similar to this issue and it being low B+ voltage because of some dead caps on the regulator circuit.

In reality the silicon oil loaded with a metal I oxide is not nearly as thermally conductive as aluminum.the function of the compound is supposed to fill in tiny irregularities in the serface interface between the device and the heat sink. The metal to metal interface is by far better than so much compound that the device is floating on compound.
