I built an "AFFORDABLE" shoulder rig for your camera (Smallrig)

Ғылым және технология

Shoulder rigs are my favorite way to film, which is probably do to my Parks and Rec addiction. I wanted to create my own shoulder rig that can handle a variety of cameras and doesn't break the bank, and maybe it'll help you too!

weird question but, saw some people online say the shoulder pad is kinda noisy if you have an on-camera mic, did you find that to be the case?

The chest pad setup is quite a bit more versatile the the shoulder pad. I used to rock a shoulder rig but didn’t like being stuck with just one angle.

@@jlinc187 Thanks! But having a proper on-the-shoulder rig would make it more stable, right? especially if the rig is heavy

@@MisterAudio-lx2sv stability is probably a push unless you're dealing with Sony IBIS. The shoulder rig is certainly a bit more comfortable on a whole day shoot I'm sure but it looks ridiculous and if you have to move around at all it's not nearly as convenient and versatile as a chest setup is. To each their own but my preference comes from a ton of hours with the chest pad setup.

@@jlinc187 you mean things like camera height level, tight spaces, things like that? shoulder rigs are limiting in the sense that you either crouch or kneel or stand, but cannot change the camera position on you otherwise

I like the Ibis from the Fuji since it has more stabilization. The shoulder rig is nice without ibis, but with ibis I imagine I would like the footage more. Using the shoulder rig without additional stabilization is a specific look that some clients may go for if they are wanting a more natural touch or distressed visual story telling device. Both are good. I am wondering if additional weight for the shoulder rig may stabilize more of the telephoto footage or if just shooting wider helps mitigate some of the sway that comes with shoulder rigs
