"Self-Reliance" is an 1841 essay written by American transcendentalist philosopher and essayist Ralph Waldo Emerson. It contains the most thorough statement of one of Emerson's recurrent themes: the need for each individual to avoid conformity and false consistency, and follow his own instincts and ideas. This channel will approach self reliance from a modern perspective. and will focus on various build projects using modern amenities, and tools to build a completely self reliant lifestyle.
Many people ask me where I am from and where I film my projects. I am from Northern Ontario, Canada, and live in an area where off-grinding is easy because I have lots of land to build on and experiment with different buildings and materials. Everything I do is to try to be more self reliant, and to depend less on others. But that doesn't mean I don't like working together with other people on projects. Knowing people who have skills is part of being self reliant, and trading skills is a great way to get more things done!

I think you should make a seal floor on your chicken's solarium outside cause the predators could digg the dirt to access under your solarium. It already happened. I love when you play with your chickens or your dog, it's so funny 😂

You can just staple both bottom corners of the plastic while keeping it snug, then pull the middle top tight from both bottom corners, and work your way out from there. Then you don’t have to crawl under the plastic. Anyway fun video!

Really nice build. Those are some lucky chickens! I would live in that coup. One thing, please wear a mask when you are in an enclosed area kicking up construction dust. I want to follow you for many years to come. Ops! Second thing, the window that leads directly into the coup needs wire to keep out predators. It would be easy for a fox to push it open and have a delicious chicken dinner.

Gordon here, I also used a Norwoods 2000 LM mill to make lumber for chicken coop. You got the newer Norwoods mill . Mine is a antique to look at yours lol. But it is bought and paid in full before I got to me. And now I can make special wood boards that you can not but at Home Depot. I also shop @ Princess Auto but here Alberta Canada. A mans store that is what my wife calls it lol. You got keep a sharp watch out to keep them homeless one at bay or else they will move in . them lazy will move in and take over free power free heat lol

For deep bedding it is better to use Wood Chips. The whole thing can then be used as Compost later. Straw makes a solid Plate.

Nice chicken house. Pine shavings work well for bedding the turpentine in the chips helps keep mites and lice off your birds. Lice kinda likes straw. Wood as in a wood box in corner of yard for them to roll n natural parasite control. Thanks for sharing

My coup is a bunch of milk crates on star pickets and a tarp or two. You're one wins hands down. Just needs a TV and hottub to complete the epic setup. Add shell grit to there diet for great shell quality.

I am very much the same way with how you plan and stash materials til you’re ready to build. One suggestion would be to use wood chips rather than straw for the bedding. It absorbs much better. Cheers from north Bay Ontario 😊
