    This was such a cool challenge and collaboration Holly! And thanks for introducing firebird. I love medieval theme and army building so this was right up my alley. Interesting how you all approached it in a different way. I think army wise, you're definitely at a disadvantage since firebird and Sands both have bigger armies with more factions and gears for better pairing. But you made up grounds with your build and fantasy beasts. The terrain definitely did needed more build. I think overall, firebird's was the best. You and Sands come in equal second!

    This was a superfun idea, with the collab between the 3 of you. It was clear from the start that you have absolutely no experience or material for doing medieval builds, or designing armies or anything close to it. That said, that makes it even more impressive what you made in the end. The Moc was a superfun and original build, adding the Kestrals but also the color bricks symobolizing the flags, I loved the ideas you had. Even the tree, despite being a bit too big compared to the walls, added to the design. In the end I think Firebird was the winner, his walls were more clean and even the base groundwork, while very basic, had simply a slightly more realistic look which I prefer. That said, I think you were a close second. Your strongpoint was being extremely creative with what little you had to work with. The mounted Holly on the bridge was a fun standout for sure. Please keep building Mocs, you seemed to have a lot of fun doing it and it made for a very enjoyable and fun video. For sure showing off your work is something you can do really well, better than your competitors. Thanks for making the series, I've seriously enjoyed all three of them very much.

  • @MadHawkMoody
    @MadHawkMoody3 ай бұрын

    Dang. This is gonna be a hard choice. But personally, I think that your army is the best. Working on a VERY small budget of minifigures and weapons, while also enhancing the fantasy feel really bodes well in your favor. Sands definitely had the best army, Firebird had the best budget for a lot of creative opportunities, but I'm gonna have to go with you, Holly. Also... being in a similar situation with very few castle figs and just now getting into the fandom, really persuades me to choose this moc. I really like to see how creativity is used, especially on such a small scale. The tree was absolutely my favorite part of the whole build. I just... it felt like there was life and it felt very unique to me. It wasn't embellished with a ton of detail like Sands and Firebird, but it was much simpler. Using existing bricks and really just spending money on minifigure torsos and parts from the minifigure tower really shows that creativity like an average Lego builder (though, I will not assume that you are one, Holly! You have much more creativity than I do). Also, going to see actual castles is VERY good! Unlike your opponents who just went straight to building their army and mocs, you went out of your way to explore this new world! In the end, everyone did a great job with their mocs, and I learned a lot from everyone's builds. But I nominate Team Holly/Lion Knights as the victors in this contest of the builders! Edit: I'd love to see another btw! BrickWarriors sells Stain Glass Window pieces online with the crests of other castle kingdoms if you are ever interested in making an interior moc!

    I love that you went to Europe and saw castles, but it’s important to note that the majority of those castles are not at all medieval. The most obvious indicator is the sheer amount of low exterior windows (such as those in Windsor Castle). This is an obvious weakness in security as they could easily be broken and entered. The reason they exist now is because people have continued to live in these castles post Renaissance and have modernized the homes/castles for current lifestyles. Neuschwanstein was built in the 19th century by King Ludwig II of Bayern and while designed to emulate medieval castles, is not medieval and I don’t think it would even fit the definition of “castle.” Still, it’s a magnificent building and definitely worth seeing. I’m not aware of a Disney fairytales intended to take place during the Middle Ages, so I believe that is why they went for this era of “castles.”

    For a castle that functions more like a fortification rather than a mad king's vanity project, there are better ones in the UK to visit. The ones which have been disused since at least the Civil War are the best, but places like Alnwick are also very good. Neuschwanstein is more of a stylised palace than a castle. If you want a Germanic look then head to somewhere like Nuremberg.

    sadly Windsor Castle and Neuschwanstein Castle are not typical medieval looking castle. They changed quiet a lot since they were built. There is actually not typical medieval castle looking as almost no standard existed during medieval age. Exception for one French king who did something like that, King Philip. In france. Still in france, some people are building the Guédelon Castle using medieval technics as a study project. There is tons of medieval looking castles though, but instead of giving a list, I suggest you look at the book The Medieval Fortress from author Kaufmann, J. E. for references if you are interested. Otherwise you could also just look at some video games like Age of Empire 2, they did some decent job I would say... edit at 6:45, this looks like Guedelon years back

    neuschwanstein wasnt really changed a lot. it was just never a medieval castle in the first place. it's a schloss that's supposed to be kinda medieval looking and it's from the second half of the 19th century. and overall: at least in germany, basically none of the castles which are still standing look like what they did in the middle ages anymore

    @ConsiderBricks you're correct. The 19th century witnessed numerous projects of renovation and construction, not only for secular structures but also for religious buildings. Take the Notre-Dame Cathedral, for instance; it underwent significant renovation during that period. Though in the public's memory, it's often perceived as it appeared during the Middle Ages. I'm waiting to see how it will look after the current restoration started after the fire damaged it.

    Depends on the armies. Some viking armies and some northern european tribal armies during the Roman Empire times definitely had fighting women, although this was not common and often out of necessity. Some of the women also came along to cheer on their men fighting. The sight of them close, with the knowledge that they for sure would have their women killed or abused if they lost, actually made them fight a lot harder.

    @@pinobluevogel6458 Uh...this was supposed to be a joke about how she found a way to cleverly tax deduct a trip to Europe, not really an attempt at a historical debate 😅. Yes, there were women Viking. And in Africa and South America, tribes often had women warriors. However, in Medieval Europe (which is where knights and castles come from) women were not allowed to serve in the army in any capacity. The only women who sometimes went into the battlefield with the armies were nuns who took the role of nurses , since nurses as we know them weren't actually a thing until the 19th century (one of the rare exceptions was Jeanne d'Arc and even her had to dress as a man and ended up being burned alive for heresy once she was captured by the British). There's no historical evidence to support any claim about women going along their husbands to "cheer them" in battle. In fact, it would make no sense whatsoever 'cause the reason men even went to war in the first place was to protect their wives and children. It would make zero sense to have them come along with them at all. Which is why they didn't.

    @@___David__ I wasn't exactly looking for a historical debate, but thanks for indulging me nonetheless. The cheering on by women in battle was done by germanic tribes across the rhine and beyond. It is well documented among roman history.

    I was starting to get worried because you hadn't uploaded in 2 weeks. I thought maybe you stepped on a LEGO or something and it took you out. Now I understand why you went AWOL.

    I stepped on a lego an accidentally fell causing me to take a skiing holiday and make up a fake Europe trip out of places I went in 2018, and 2006. I must have hit my head hard
