15:30 dunno if ASA still got it, but the most used and most flexible kind of structure to make a pen is the fence foundation. you can lay out an area with those and snap walls, doors and gates to them. So you can easily make an outdoor pen, where your dinos dont have to stand on foundations. They snap even on uneven terrain to make the best seal to the ground possible.

I like what you made! But it's probably the size of a workshop and you need to really supersize for a dino pen :)

Tip for PVE players and log term fun. Create multiple armies instead of just rexes. Use megatheriums to fight spider, rexes to fight money, therys to fight dragons... Put the points in the dinos' name, that way you can easily track their original stats FYI carbonemys are very good to tame Tusos (Giant squid), give it a good saddle, every point in hp, and you're good to go

If no one has mentioned yet, you can pick up many of the small and smallish medium Dinos with the Argentavis. Comes in real handy when taming. Make a 2x6 or 3x6 pin 2 window high walls and just carry and drop whatever you want to tame (within reasonable size) into the pin. BTW: a nice way to tame one of the best creatures on Ark (the Thylacoleo) is, snipe them with a tranq dart (not arrow)when they are still in a tree. They will drop down. Once on the ground go pick them up with your Agry and drop them in a near by trap/pin. Trap should be close because they will beat the daylights out of your Argy on the way. To find one relatively safely, just circle the Redwoods and look at the outer tree's 1/3 to 1/2 way up the bare bark. I've had good luck finding them on the Southern portion where the river comes out by swamp on ASE. Thyla's like cooked meats the best and their torpor goes down REAlly fast when taming. BTW they can climb vertically if you hold down the jump button. Ya, Thyla's rock.

Holding pen looks good, Tem. Only suggestion I have for it is to put a wall torch on either side of the outward face of the gate. This would have two aesthetic effects, I think. First, it'd give some external lighting to the base and let you spot the gate if you happen to be working in the nearby forest at night. And second, it'd give a full Jurassic Park feel. Think of the gate that they go through at the start of the original JP movie. As for penning in the Rexes, you could just do a perimeter fence around the area you want to keep them. Nothing too fancy until you have an area with enough flat terrain to make a proper pen for them. That way, your Rexes won't look like they're just some 'relatives visiting for the holidays'.

Great episode, GNS! Really enjoying your Ark journey! Helpful bit of advice, as far as your character either freezing or overheating, perhaps an otter would help? If you tame an otter, it can ride your shoulder. Leveling it's melee damage upgrades it's insulation properties ... around 75-82 hypothermic insulation and 34-38 hyperthermic insulation per 100% melee damage . Stats on the wiki

Best place to find them is in the swamp on the east side of the map , they some times wander on banks of the swamp.

Hit H, that will show temperature. You should be able hatch argy eggs at night, if not dimetrodons, kairuku or an air conditioner. AC has both heat and cold resistance, they snap into window walls now. Some eggs are too cold, you could use campfires or standing torches. Torches are more fuel efficient but i prefer fires for the charcoal production.

Picking up that Daeodon schematic was huge. Pigs are great for big brawls because they can heal your tanky and damage-based dinos. And they're not that difficult to tame. The hardest part is making sure you have enough fortitude/good enough clothing to deal with the cold areas they tend to spawn in.

Dead/Carno island is the best place to get decent Argentavis IMO. The high turnaround and high spawn rate is the reasoning there. You need a good ptera to be effective there, as soon as you see a good argy it needs to be kited up and away or it will usually get killed. The small island NE where there are no creature spawns is a great place to setup traps, safe there as long as you don't attract attention...maybe an occasional wandering argy to deal with. I have fatdogs argy trap and a 2x2 foundation doorway/ramp trap for rex there, single high works for rex but not all creatures will climb the ramp....some refuse to do that and go around.

03:00 whenever dinos grow up, they just "grow in size", not changing their centerpoint. so when the legs and necks get longer, they never change their position relative to the world. Since some dino species are super small when babies, they simply grow into the ground like a veg. simply whistle them to follow and let them do a few steps and they will plop out of the ground. whenever dinos stand on foundations, it sometimes even happen that they will completely sink into the foundation, so beware of that when breeding. mammals even give birth into the foundation from the start, so never breed them on foundations, unless you are ready to "save" the newborn. For me, it was never good to let the dinos mate uncontrolled, because the babies need care from the start unless their hunger-stat is high enough to get above 10% to feed from the trough, like your raptors i guess.

I think the pin needs to be behemoth sized or at least able to have rex's or spino's inside. u should make a sea gate in the bay so u can tame up some water dino's and have them protected. I know ur nowhere close to tek stuff but dedicated storage can be pulled from and u don't need them super close but they do stack on each other.

for breeding, if 150 is max lvl setting on your server, dont bother taming anything below 145 if you wannt to combine stats, as breeding for mutations can be a really time consuming effort with several 100 babies to hatch, also depending on your settings. Also cute to see this initial porch pen. Imagine playing for longer, wanting to have every creature in a bread ready stat. meaning male and female verstions with good stats. you need a multi story pen bigger then your little mountaintop. its easy to have over 1000 tames in ark, specialy when you try to get the most beautifull breed possible :) and ofc its ark, so if something is planed in your mind, expect it to go completely off sometimes. i can remember when on one of our first worlds i wanted to make a dilo pet zoo park kind of thing. so i was breading dilos left right and center, as it was a server of some mates, i kindly asked to increase the breading and maturing speed a bit so it wont take weaks of doing that. well it got overboard quite quickly, when you have like 1000 dilos all mating with each other and poping out babies fastern then you can kill them, it was desaster. admin was gone off to sleep and we cound not wipe them, so we sat there for hours shooting the dilos in fear that the server would crash any moment due to the lag. but thats just ark, these are the moments you will never forget about.

You can either do roofs over foundations or roofs on pillars to even out the terrain. Aesthetically roofs over pillars but you have to lay the roof as far as it will go and then snap a pillar under it. A lot of times you will have a void under the roof of some kind as either half walls or walls won't cover some janky areas. I just skip most foundations at this point and raise the base at lease 1 block over the highest point. You used to be able to snap a foundation on a foundation but not anymore.

is anybody else having issues with dinos not responding to whistles? I whistled all passive 4 times and my anklyo never did switch to passive, had to jump on it and ride it away from my tame and manually switch

Tem, please head over to a terminal under of of the large crystals float in the sky and craft a Cyropod. It will save so much time getting large tames back to your base.

They don't have cryos in the base game yet. He'd have to download the mod. Which is out

Bruh… build a temp wall around your tames so nothing comes by and ruins the taming effectiveness. Feel me?

It hurts watching you opening drops. Landing, opening the drop, drinking a cup of tea, talking about the weather, analyzing it's items, .... in the swamp, during night, not having secured the area... God damn, open the drop, take all, fly away. Then when you are in the air and save, look in your inventory what you got from the drop. It's only a question of time when something bad will happen, like getting hit by a troodon and having not seen the raptor pack next to the drop.

the major weakness of ark is finding high lvl tames for boss fights, it can take literally real life weeks to find anything worth taming, they should have added a dino finder to the game, one a roughly lvl 50 that pinpoints a high level within 1000M radius another at 75ish that lowers the radius to say 500M and one at 100 that either lowers that radius to 250 oe 100M or tells you exactly were the dino is. flying for hours upon hours just to find rexes, yutys and theras high enough to breed to fight the bosses is boring and tedious

There is a mod that does this. I can't remember the name of it, though. Dino tracker? You can track yours and wild ones. It is awesome.

Though it doesn't help much without a hive to hop, but the Charge Pets have a max level Dino radar.

Well, it's supposed to be an MMO of sorts which is why things are so rare and takes forever. If everyone could just find the best of the best all the time it would take away a big part of the whole MMO thing. Same with bosses and the elites and stuff, killing them by yourself takes tons of ammo and time, to the point where you'll start thinking they're practically immortal. I think that if you're playing it single player you should really go into the setting file for the server and adjust everything to be more of a single player friendly experience otherwise it's going to get real boring real quick in my opinion.

Also, pretty sure it's supposed to be tough to find a good set of breeders. You CAN breed mediocre tames to get usable battle tames. It's just for the alpha bosses that you need to find all of the 140+ tames with high stats to breed. You shouldn't even need to breed for mutations unless you're playing PvP and feel the need to be the apex tribe.

I won’t be buying this until it gets out of alpha and goes on sale. Inplayed the orignal and one of the custom (fan made) maps. When they started releasing the new dlc maps. I couldn’t play them. Crashed no matter what. Chalked it up to my pc built being old. Tried again when i built my new pc. Still crashed. Probably won’t play Ark II either. They turned it into a money grab and be damned with optimization. I shouldn’t have to do their work for them and tinker with a bunch of settings in order to play,
