This DIY Beaver model RC plane was built solely as a test bed for a brushless motor, esc and prop that sponsored by T-motor. This model is also an experiment to build an RC plane using 2 different materials together, which are 3D printed parts and depron foam or foam board. I am still learning to make 3D model parts for RC model plane and the result is far from what I aimed to be. It's just basically 3D printing parts without any optimization for flying model. I finally found out that Blender is not a good choice to make 3D model for 3D printed flying model, so the result is jaggy and not smooth enough and also not optimized. And with so many parts to be printed and each with unique setup, make it more complicated, no wonder they sell the 3D printed kits so expensive, because there are so much work to do to prepare it. Nevertheless the result is stunning, despite not so good quality build but the end product is so beautiful in the air and on land.
The wingspan is about 2000mm or about 79 inch, the flying weight with wheel is 3000 gram, that's already include 375 gram of counter weight ballast using plastic of water as a ballast. The float itself weight about 600 gram so the total weight with float is 3600 gram.
I also plan to make the plans for all foam material, that I will working on it after this build video is published with 3D printed and foam plans also released.
When I found out T-motor wanted to send their product my mind straight thinking to make a seaplane, but I never succeed making RC plane with floats, and then I try to ask Chat GPT and open AI chat program. And the answer is mind blowing, it's very useful and working on real life.

Another amazing project. The best takeoff is when the water surface had a bit of chop. You need this to help the floats break the adhesion to the water 👍

You have certainly stepped up a level, I love though that you cater to those at grassroots who don't have lots of resources by including non 3D printed parts too, but I think you are on to something with your combination of printed and foamboard parts - I did this myself when I wasn't happy with the overall quality of a 3d printed PC21 so I used the nose and complex parts like wing tips and fairings from the printed model but rebuilt the airframe in balsa and the results are amazing. I really want you to do either the PC12 or PC21 PLEASE! I work on the full size Pilatus aircraft so can provide you all the reference you require

I think it may struggle to lift off of water because of wrong angle of attack of floats and weight. I've made a piper cub with floats and it flies great, no problem with takeoffs and landings. The floats on it point slightly downwards making the plane point slightly up when on water, so the wing has positive angle of attack. Weight: I think that 3.6kg at 2m WS isn't a lot but I suppose you could go down to around 2,5kg by using lighter glue, getting rid off 3D printed parts (except the ones that go on nose like cowl, it needed nose ballast anyway), moving servos forward and generally going for lighter construction. Oh and the float rudders are a great thing, it's really annoying when your plane won't go straight on takeoff and won't turn as effectively with just normal rudder. I hope to see more succesful float plane built by you in future, good luck! :)

Wonderful stuff! One thing you might consider is running your tape cover on the wing along the length of the wing rather than front to back- if you do that on the top and bottom of the wing, it increases the strength of the wing considerably. Because the forces bend wing tips up and down in flight, those forces will be distributed along the length of each piece of tape- it is much harder to stretch the tape then it is to separate it at the seams. It does stiffen the wing considerably!

Hi Julius, how are you? My friend, you don't even need to say that I'm your fan. When you don't post a video I get apprehensive but I know you must be preparing something for us. I'm making a glider model entirely out of depron foam and I once saw you applying liquid to the wings. I ask: is this liquid a resin? Is it to make the depron more reinforced? I remember you applied paper and applied this liquid. What can I use to make the wings really reinforced? Hugs and thank you very much for your attention.

Chat GPT didn't really help the real secret of successful floats is not size but the hull design, you need a step and strakes to help it break the suction of the water and you need to rig them so that the bow planes slightly higher than the stern then as long as your size is reasonable you will win every time - simply copy exactly existing floats for RC like those by E-Flite and H9
