My one and only 6” Black Series figure is Cassian Andor, which I won in the giveaway on Toy Anxiety a while back lol. It’s a great figure, but for me, having a family, it’s hard to justify dropping $25 on one figure every time we go shopping. That’s why as I’ve gotten older, and wiser maybe, my collecting habits have changed from completist to just picking up what I like and makes me happy, like you said. Last week I was able to find The Mandalorian Retro Boba Fett and Ahsoka for $7.99 each at Best Buy. Those figures just look cool to me and at that price, even my wife encouraged me to get them! My collection may be mismatched and varying, but it’s mine and I love it. Great video Craig and I hope you can stick to it lol!

As a 53 year old female who grew up with the OT, I still love collecting all aspects of the Star Wars universe, but I'm definitely more selective with Black Series lately. It's just too much and too expensive to get it all when you collect other things. I'm actually into the 90's POTF now, since I didn't collect them. That was my collector Barbie decade. 😆 The packaging is so fun.

@erindrury....I know exactly what u mean.Unless I pre-order, I can't get what I want at retail price.Ive started buying 4 inch again, because I can get characters I want normally at reasonable prices.I love the 6 inch scale, but there are hardly any OT out there and as a 70s kid, that's what I really want.The helmets are cool though.

I hear you man. I've been a collector since I was 8 years old. Love star wars. I had every one of the figures original and current. Black Series was my favorite ended up selling everything. Tired of the repaints and all the other bullshit. Price hikes. Plastic free packaging. I was done with all that bullshit. I don't blame you at all.

Did I just realize they put numbers on the boxes just to feed the completest in all of us?!

They’re so rare for me now. Once you cut out Things That Look Like Boba Fett, clone repaints, stormtrooper repaints, and Luke Skywalker, there isn’t much left.

For those like me who have been in the collector game for decades, you have to really know what you want. Plato once said, 'It is better to buy what action figures you like and be suprised when it stuck to lots of value, than buy what is suppose to be valuable, and be surprised to be stuck with a figure you don't like.'

I’ve just become more selective lately. Selling my collection would make me sad.

Great video Craig! I’m pretty much in the same frame of mind with the Vintage Collection. I’m just not happy any more trying to keep up, the joy’s gone from it and the price point for these is even beginning to go over what the Black Series used to be! Am thinking I may just try and collect the new versions of the original 96 now. Have a serious case of space danger at the moment, coupled with a seriously empty wallet 💸💸💸 P.S. “I like my tan and khaki” needs to go on a T-Shirt.

The prices are getting ridiculous, I saw Target having some Black Series figures at $33.99 + tax that's around $37 dollars, it's only a matter of time when they reach $50.

Good for you Craig, there are plenty of other toy lines out there, it may take some time, but when you find the right one you’ll know.

I started picking and choosing my favorite characters (nary a sequel fig), not buying any variants, and mixing in Figuarts/Mafex. It’s led to a healthy and sensible 6” Star Wars collection.

I’m currently going through the process of selling my black series collection. All of these points hit me, alongside space, it was a no brainer. There is so much other cool stuff out there as well. I have kept a few, but they are the ones I really like and consider to be great figures. I do want the 40th Lando Skiff and Biker Scout, I’d have been happy with a Boushh Leia as well. Other than that, I’m done.

Nailed it! Sold off most of my stuff last Christmas. I feel exactly the same. I was mostly in VC not black series. I made a killing though. I've returned to the 77-85 stuff. Great vid!

I was an avid BS collector but inflation and lazy repaints instead of new characters caused me to scale back tremendously. I only buy now if the clears price is good

You ain't kidding about BS not retaining value. I've been trying to sell off some of my collection, and I can barely give these things away. Once other collectors start to liquidate their collections, these figs will glut the market and lose all value. I guess the moral of the story is "don't collect for investment".

Preach on Brother. I had the same epiphany a year and a half ago. I sold all my 6" and never looked back. Now I see figs, maybe, on pegs or at shows and go...'glad I'm not wasting my $ anymore'. Great video, you speak for many of us.

At one point I bought every 3 3/4" SW fig ever made from the modern line from 1995 to 2018! All variations, all exclusives. I had "Toy Anxiety" all the time. But one day I reached my max and said enough is enough. I sold off thousands of figures and kept only TRILOGY figs. And yet still have a ton of figs. But now I'm free, free to pick and choose and collecting is somewhat fun again.

Craig I agree it certainly complicates things that we have to hedge our bets to get the figures we like having preorders at multiple places is annoying at the very least. While I don’t do black series I feel the pain being a classified and legends collector. I appreciate companies like valaverse who are forthcoming about when I’ll get my figures and preorder process is direct to manufacturer. I do miss the days of surprise in the toy aisle but honestly I just can’t spend a lot of time hunting so catch 22 be surprised and try my luck or preorder hell!!

I think you are very right! Hasbro is only thinking about maximun sales and they care nothing about the SW world.

Plastic free packaging and price hikes made me decide to quit collecting the black series lines. I'll pick up a few from the 40th anniversary ROTJ but I'm otherwise done with it.

Truth. Feel the same way about Marvel Legends. Way too many (unattainable) exclusives, unless you want to pay 2 and 3x the original price on eBay or Amazon. Completely uninterested in the go green push and not being able to see what I'm purchasing without opening the packages. Poor handling of recent HasLab projects. Pricing. I used to be a completest as well, I had to have every wave that came out and every exclusive regardless of the character. I had to complete the sets. However once it all started going green and I'm no longer able to see the products displayed in the packaging, that killed my collecting desire. I've cancelled multiple preorders and have not pre-ordered new waves because it just doesn't have the same appeal to me anymore. 2 figures that I have wanted for a long time, Bastilla Shan and Darth Malak, finally came out and I was so happy to see them...until I found out I'm not going to be able to see them because they are in plastic-less packaging. That was the nail in the coffin for me. Haven't pre-ordered and won't. I loved collecting these items mainly because of the display capabilities while keeping them in packaging. That was the last thing I was holding on to and now that's gone. Only line I'm still collect now is GI Joe Classified and that's starting to become a problem too. Thanks Hasbro for the unintentional money saving you caused me lol

As a Canadian guy who just jumped into TBS, I absolutely see your point... especially the ridiculous price! I did get the Kenobi Vader (40th anniversary A New Hope re-pack) as my starting figure and managed to get the Mandalorian Ahsoka. I did find Chewie Archive, but the leak of a new "better" Chewie for RotJ already broke my anticipation of anything TBS unless they do a nice RotJ Vader with the proper accessories. That's the other thing: TBS figures have less and less items when compared to the TVC. Both TVC Fennec Shand and the latest Vader are the key examples and I will admit that the TVC Vader makes the TBS figure look obsolete. Another thing is that they're going to be plastic-free which make it more difficult to see the quality of the figure. It doesn't help that Retro Collection is also filling up the pegs and I see these as the ultimate backward step due to how incredible the TVC has gotten even with the price increase... Yet the TVC Deluxe are kinda pointless for me as of now. TBS is as bad as the DC Multiverse thing from McFarlane Toys and all the Marvel Legends. Is there any point to have three versions of the Batman Who Laughs, one of the overused/overhyped characters since its creation?

I used to be a completist with the Black Series and quit for the same reasons. I've bought 2 in the last year, Leia Boushh disguise and the Cantina band member which was on sale for 17 and change. Now, if Hasbro re-released Slave Leia I would definitely pick that up. But that's it.

This is the dark side of collecting. I see a rise in this kind of behavior, the real life true addiction characteristics and everything that goes with it. And the damn near euphoria of "release" once you've had enough. Toy companies are now fully embracing the addiction narrative in all but actual name (or laugh it off as a joke) and their role as the plastic crack dealers they've become. It's the 90s comic book boom all over and the build-up has been huge. Sadly as more and more fall and rise out of it, I expect the crash to be equally as bad if not more.

I get what you're saying, I do collect black series, but I pretty much came into the line with Mandalorian and so my Goal was just to collect Mandalorian. I have branched out and started to collect teams, Such as Rebels, Rogue One as well as a modest collection of figures for each of the Original trilogy movies(I have a small shelf for each movie). This has been satisfying having a small shelf with a specific group of characters. The Knights of the Old Republic figures have been ok and I've been picking those up because I love that old game from 2004 and it was a big part of my life for a few years, so I'm looking forward to Bastila and Malak. Black series is not something I need to be a completionist, I'm happy with just getting what I want and letting the rest of it peg warm. If the line dies then it dies, it often feels like Hasbro are doing their best to kill Black series. The part about this video that resonates with me is how you are feeling about just going cold turkey, it isn't satisfying for you and is just causing you stress. I have felt the exact same with Hasbro Mainline Transformers, I gave up trying to collect that line because of all the Exclusives that had to be pre-ordered and then were being constantly canceled on me. It was causing me way too must stress and anger and frustration that when Hasbro announced their New line for 2022, I felt only disgust, they soured me to official product. I buy Third party unlicensed transformers that while they sometimes cost more they are far more satisfying to collect.

You forgetting the plastic free packaging, thats been a real big problem, we re now essentially wagering £30-35 for a good quality figure, now you have to look at the packaging, and hope you got lucky with a good quality figure.

I got into SW:BS late (2018/19) and started frantically trying to catch up til one day I just thought "Fuck it, there's too much" As a 40+ yr old collector I got caught up seeing SW in the shops again and went nuts buying all sorts of different lines. Just get what you like. I only need 5 or 6 of the 1980s potf figures to complete my 70s/80s line so I'm gonna try for them I think.

I got into toy Collecting again because of a random guy I met I. Target. He was a GI Classified collector. I got one...then two...now I have way more than I expected. But the constant price increases are making me HAVE to be selective and NOT a completest. It's just to damn expensive. Plus target cancelling orders randomly doesn't help.

I quit Black Series last year. A tiring disappointment.

I walked away from the Andor Imperial Officer at Target yesterday because it was $26+ before tax. Did I want it? Yes. For that price? Not on your life. Nothing wrong with saving money I guess

Right on. I have a few black series but am more into retro or TVC. Though their prices are getting up there also.

Simplest outlook on collecting, don't be a completest It never ends well

I stopped once I found the main characters I wanted. Now I collect the Retro Collection.

Just imagine being a prequel fan The only thing released over and over and over again is always going to be the original trilogy I have pretty quit buying Black series and have gone into custom clones I do my own customs and I'm happy with that

I have really slowed on the Black series figures. This really is a great time to buy these you can get a collection for the price of just a few new ones LOL.

The pre-orders make me stack up loads more product than I think one would reasonably buy from the store, and it's tricky to display. I Guess Clone Troopers vs Mandalorians would be the easiest. Really lacking in battle droids.

Reason 1 involves pre-orders and wanting to buy toys at shops. I notice Hot Toys figures on your shelves, don't they take longer to release than Black Series figures? Also, you can't walk into stores and buy figures from any of those old toy ranges you mentioned.

There's two sides to this coin, I agree with everything you said but I also believe if you get rid of the completist mentality and you just pick and choose what you like, as an example I used to get everything that came out then I became depressed when I couldn't get what I wanted, and I just fell in love with the clones and that's all I get now are the clones and I am way happier with the occasional new Darth maul and a couple other ones that are fantastic, once I started to pick and choose it started to become easier, I used to collect Lego,transformers, GI joe, Star wars Black series, DC , and for the longest marvel Legends,etc etc, I started to become dissatisfied with marvel Legends they were coming out with way too many of them to keep up and I did not want three out of six that you needed to collect the build a figure, so I did exactly what you did and I quit them completely, and to tell you the truth I quit it the right time because they started coming out with nothing but shit, I'm an inbox collector and when they came out with plastic free it totally took away my joy, I still have every marvel Legends from 2015 all the way to 2021, and after that I quit Legos transformers GI Joe etc etc the only thing I kept to is Black series and with the condition that I would only get clones and if something special came up I would get it but no more anxiety no more bullshit anymore and it made my life so much enjoyable and all my inbox collection especially the Legos have Rose in price and I did very very well on Legos and marvel Legends where I can recoup all my money and make a lot, I feel your frustration but I urge you to reconsider after you are done with the breakup. I would ask you to consider only buying things you would like 💯

Very good video and some good points in it. I feel like the price is just to high to justify a casual pick up buy. The other day, I finally saw the new Kenobi and I had him in my cart at Wal-Mart, but then saw the price. Thinking it was $22… nope $24 and some change. Compared to the other lines with extra hands/heads it’s just not a good value.

This isn’t the SW but many yrs back l gave up buying monster and sci fi mags mainly because of cost and the same w universal monster related figures price’s we’re getting crazy so l just simply stopped buying it ,it was a hard decision to make because I’ve been at this since the very early 90’s,l sold most of my mags and the many extras in figures other items my room is more freed up now and l don’t regret it

Your right at so many levels. I thought also the same and I quit with collecting! Cut the tights with spending on Hasbro bs! And IT FEELS GREAT! Great without all these frustrations! And for all that do not agree with me I will say this: as long as you keep buying Hasbro stuff then STOP COMPLAINING! Complaining about pre-order, waiting, re-paints, prices, Haslab, whatever...if you want all that be my gast! But I just say if we all want to be heared we have to vote with our wallets! Or else good luck collecting overprices pieces of plastic and enjoy.

This is so sad. I don’t know where to began. There is only a hand full of black series you can not get know. Everything has been re released at some point. Stop pre ordering you can find this stuff in the store even the exclusive stuff. Believe it or not. Some of the hardest stuff to find is the Walgreens stuff and that’s getting easier to get. End of the day don’t spend all your money on toys. Hobbies supposed to be fun.

I never got into the Black Series. I collected Star Wars back in the Power of the Force line. It was overwhelming then. Then Hasbro wants me to collect everyone and everything all over again in a larger scale for more money? Hell no! (Same can be said for G.I. Joe: Classified) Only thing I get from Star Wars nowadays is the Micro Galaxy line.

That's why I love gamestop, you don't have to put any money on preorders, just phone up and they'll get you down for them.

Stopped making collection when they boosted the price of Cobb Vanth for “Paint”. Seen the writing on the wall, the figure quality goes down, the reuse goes thru the roof and so does the price. Now they got you paying 60$ for an all black Boba that comes int a box with no window? Haha ok, no thanks. Asking me to fund their production just another one of their 250$ lightsabers but for twice the price? Haha yea also no thanks. They priced them selves out with me because for this produce at that price I will collect hotdogs instead and atleast have a NICE product. From a company who don’t treat me like their personal piggy bank.

I started collecting the black series figures from the very start of their initial release. I hunted down each and every one, including the exclusives. And then 5 years ago, I decided to sell them all! I completely lost interest and motivation in the line. I really can't explain why I lost interest.

I quit and sold most of the black series after the Rancor failed. Im sorry but if I cant complete my trilogy scenes , its just not worth it so later taters. I just kept A New Hope main cast and thats it... nothing else nothing more. if they ever make an x wing or An Original Trilogy Tie Fighter........ i'll get it but i wont partake in any other black series figures.

Good points. For the prices of modern, you could get some vintage or 90s Star Wars toys. One thing I want to see for Black Series is a Millennium Falcon Cockpit. We’ll never get the whole ship, but putting figures in the cockpit would be a cool display.

No Vintage Collection?

I am a VERY specific cherry 🍒 picker of the Black Series. Just the Bad Batch, the cool Boba Fett ones (all black is awesome) and Darth Maul.

I have a addiction to gunpla. Model kits. When you mentioned how you were angry when you couldnt pre order. That's how I was just now. I was stressed that I would not get the pre order on a model earlier and I was able to get it and now I feel so much better. This is bad. I'm quitting. I need to. Wish me luck. And nice job on quitting. I only bought BS stormtroopers/ other imperial troopers and I now have a small company. It's time to end that too.

Please God i hope the idiots who call the shots at Hasbro see this video and listen because this is how I feel about black series and everybody i know.

I own hundreds of loose 3.75 figures, I own ten Black Series figures, and I regret buying eight of them. Black Series figures suck, they just look so useless.

a lot of you toy collectors complain about the same exact things, but the toy company is only doing their job. the truth is, you guys need therapy. obsessive compulsive disorder is the thing that they are capitalizing from.

I had started early on but the premium promises slid backwards quick. Then once the Maker Movement started doing top notch "new" old Kenner characters I was like "I'd rather something that's timeless and has more meaning and nostalgia."

I think it is better for your mental health to stop collecting,I just collect for fun I love having a 3D style representation of a figure I like,I am not really into world building,but I do hAve a lot of 3d printed stuff which is world building,I love the fun of new star wars black series figures,this year is a golden year for black series, so many great figures... good luck for any one does a top 10 figures for the black series this year because there are 25+ top 10 contenders

I can’t believe anyone has still stuck with it. Dropped off a little over a year ago and haven’t regretted a thing. Now my only problem is what to do with my near complete collection. Lol
