Simple matter of over feeding the machine. You had several seconds to save the belts. As the chipper slowed, use the red safety bar to stop/reverse the infeed. There is no pulling the branch out by hand once the feed rollers have it. ( I have the same chipper)

Thank you. After taking it apart I found a small piece of wood that got stuck between the cutter blade and the feed rollers. It got pinned and stopped the cutter. I had to prop the feed rollers and work the wood out. I slowed down the feed rate and it works much better. I absolutely love the machine. Thank you for the comment.

never ceases to amaze me in all the chipper videos I've seen, the operator spends 50% of the time off camera running around gathering up material. Unprepared.

Honestly, thank you for the input. I appreciate it. I did have a small pile but I went through it too fast. Getting to the point and/or editing out the in-between stuff definitely makes for a more streamlined video. Thanks again.

So if you are so much more prepared, why don't you make a video?

I have the WC68. Works great but if you have punky wood you need to feed it with some smaller branches to help the intake wheel draw it in. Short thick logs are a problem. I found that you have to help push a thicker log into the wheel to get it to climb on top. I love the thing. It really makes for easy work. Using the red handle and to stop and reverse the feed would have saved your belt. I wouldn't have tried to feed something that large at that speed and just walk away.

Thank you for the tips. All the comments have definitely help me out. I thought that feed was slow but was it was actually as fast as it could be. I will get it back to work soon, I need to knock out a few other chores first. Thanks for watching.

Luckily, it wasn’t too bad. Just belts that slipped. Got it up and running again. It’s running strong now.

I bought a Woodmaxx 8H but this is the one I wanted. It works about the same as this only it has 2 feed motors running a smooth and a cogged feed wheels. My 55 hp tractor easily overpowers the 4 belts. In the process of installing a slip clutch.

I absolutely love my machine. There definitely was a waiting period with all the supply chain issues. After my first mishap, which was 100% user error that thing has worked flawlessly. Now I just need the bandsaw. I have heard good things about the woodmaxx. I didn’t realize that had feed on it. I’ve had other shippers without an automatic feed, and it’s really an absolute game changer having the automatic feed. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Yes. I have turned it down for future use. I originally thought it was going slow but have figured out it was actually as fast as it could go. Thanks for the comment.

Safety ....When you're trying to feed short lengths... As in you have to have your hand in the chute beyond the red bar... Use a longer branch to start the feed. Once the branch is feeding, it'll pull in the short stuff.

I just got a WC68. I read the instructions. Slow down the feed for the big stuff. I run at 1/3 speed. No problem at all.

I find that by the time I return with the next branch, the previous one is done. I love my chipper. I even overhauled my tractor transmission to assure that the PTO system was in good shape. Well, that and I had a few worn out gears. What a job! I always wondered what the max load point was. Thank you for demonstrating. I am glad you have found a happy medium. Chip on brother, chip on. Oh, and if it looks like a stick and it bites and rattles, chip it too. Snakes love being chipped.

You are not wrong there! As I have been aging (becoming more wise) I have been becoming more aware of safety while working around these machines. Hearing protection is definitely a must.

There is always a learning curve on a new piece of equipment, sometimes things go well and no issues, sometimes not. Throw some new belts on and mark it down as a lesson learned! Have you had any issues with the 88 since? I am looking to purchase one here soon. thanks for the video, new subscriver.

I couldn’t agree with you more. I feel a “ mistake” is really a lesson the first time. It’s a different story if you keep making the same mistake over and over again. After I decreased the feed speed i.e. use the equipment correctly, I have had no issues with it. I absolutely love it. It’s a beast. I appreciate the sub. Thank you.

So how much damage other than a Smokey belt? I heard some clanging when you started it back up. I wonder if pushing the bar in instead of running to the tractor would have shut down the unit faster? It does look like a beast! What’s the PTO HP on your tractor?

It ended up being just a smoking belt. The other noise you heard was just a piece of wood that got stuck in there. I tried pushing the bar to reverse it but that didn’t work. I did fix it and I recorded it I just haven’t had a chance to re-run it so I haven’t put the video up. It is an awesome chipper very well-built. Not sure what the PTO horsepower is but the total tractor is 60 hp. It was totally user error. Thank you for watching.

Hey, thanks for the video. Am about to pull the trigger on the WC88 and this helps. Wondering what you think about it after a year. FWIW, I've burned belts (same reason as you) on much larger machines that are engine-driven. It comes with the territory. Difference is I melted right through them. Oops.

I love it!!! I would buy again and again. It’s a solid machine. Consider the bolt on hitch for it if that would match your needs. It helps being able to haul a trailer with it. Looks like all you need to do is pull the log out of the shoot. I learned this the hard way myself. The larger the logs, the more you have to control the feed and once the machine starts to bog you pull that log out quick! I think the smoke was probably just from burning the log itself but I might be wrong. Mine just has an automatic shutoff when this happens so make sure to have a crowbar around pull out the wood and some tools to disassemble the machine.

Thank you for watching and commenting. The little piece of log was between the blade and roller that drives it in. I had to release tension to get that piece out. I’m not sure if I had another log going in if that would have helped. Luckily it was an easy fix.

expensive lesson for just not slowing down the feed speed at least you learned from it unlike a whole lot of people out there. only other thing to keep in mind is making sure you keep your rpms at the 540 and not slower you'll see a lot of people complain about clogging the shoot and it happens because of two things to slow of rpms with to fast of feed rate. get those two things figured out and you'll never have another issue. keep it up and stay safe.

I’ll definitely make sure I’m at 540 and believe me, that the rate is going a lot slower from now on. I have been able to fix the chipper. A piece of wood was stuck in it. I haven’t had a chance to run it again and post a video but I will as soon as I can. Hands down it’s an awesome chipper, any issues I have had have been user error. What HP does that tractor have at the PTO? and what model chipper?

Hello. The tractor has 51hp at the pto. The chipper is the WC88 chipper. The chipper is rated 35-100 hp. Thank you for the comment.

Haha. I do think a mulcher is definitely called for. But this is a pretty good machine. Very well built no complaints. I didn’t even have to change the belts after all that smoke. Ha ha thanks for watching.

You hear that clunking around. That is a piece of branch that is in the space between the feed roller and the cutting blades. This is a design error To much space with nothing to push it through the blades. Espically bad if you have a lot of green leaves.

feeding too fast, smoked all 3 belts. don't run away after you feed it, adjust the infeed roller hydraulic motor speed every time you make a large change in material size. she can't eat 8" as fast as she can 3" if you know what i mean.
