I'm 55 years old, just a regular comic book fan and collector for 40 years. You seem to be a cool guy but you're exactly the reason why I don't deal with "treasure flippers" and "career dealers"... Always looking for a KILLER deal because a great deal is not good enough. You're right, some of us would have taken at his original offer, case closed.

That’s your choice if you want to pay 15K when you could have paid 8.5k. However, unlike you, I run a business and my job is to get the inventory for the lowest reasonable price especially considering the time and additional expenses involved in processing a lot of this size. I’m not buying this as a collector.
@danielnicola1602

@@PrimeTimeTreasureHunter All I saw was low grade filler. Every collector is prizes different things and what you purchased is a mass of undistinguished books from someone who didn’t prize condition. Most serious collectors would have taken a hard pass on this super lot.

@@danielnicola1602 Sorry but you do not know what you’re talking about. I shared some of the keys in the comments and told people that if you want to see more of the collection then come to my WhatNot shows and some is on my ebay such as Swamp Thing 37. If you check out those platforms or know anything about my decades of experience in comics, you would know this is not modern fill. A tiny sliver of these books just sold for $1500 on WhatNot recently. I’ve already made more than half of my money back after selling about 400-500 of these comics. Only 45,500 left. So there ya go.

He should have shopped around. $15,000 is more than fair for this size of a collection. I feel bad to see someone let go of this many books. My family better not get undercut for my collection when I'm gone. I'm marking some of the more valuable books right now with current prices and grades. No youtuber is gonna get a steal on my collection.
@PrimeTimeTreasureHunter

The reality is that once most collectors pass away, the relatives do not want to deal with a massive collection because of the space it takes up and lack of or little knowledge about the items. So chances are, no matter what you write or say, once you are gone someone will get a great deal on your books. This is why I always tell collectors that if you want to maximize the value of your collection, sell it when you are alive. Don’t burden your relatives with it. He did shop the collection to a local comic shop where he bought many of them from but the shop did not want them. I’m not sure if he tried to shop it elsewhere. Keep in mind that most ppl cannot buy a collection of this size so options are limited. I also pay in full immediately. Not even Mile high comics does that. That translates to a lower price. And just for reference, while I share some of my business on KZread, I have been collecting and selling comics for many decades.

Congratulations! Looks like great buy. I'm excited to see how you do on it. Comics are something that I have a tiny bit of experience with as I collected a bit many years ago (The Amazing Spider-Man primarily) however I have very limited experience with them since I became a full time reseller. That being said I have bought and sold some fairly large record collections lately (although nothing nearing 50,000 pieces) and it seems like you handled this buy in the smartest way possible. It's very tough to resist the temptation to rush these transactions, esspecially when it's a type of item that you have personal interest in! Good on you for taking your time. And who knows! You just might find something crazy hidden in one of those boxes. My last 78rpm collection I bought (only about 350 records), I paid $60 for and although the clean out company selling them informed me that there were only classical records included, there ended up being 10-15 pre-war blues Shellac as well. One of which I sold at auction for $5800! You just never know! Will be looking forward to updates as you progress with this buy. Thanks for another great video :)

$8,500. AWESOME! That man collected comics (around 50 thousand comics, a conservative estimate, you said?) for 30 years and his collection would probably retail or auction for so much more than $8,500. I imagine you will make a ton of money on those comics. He received .17 cents a comic. If you had just given him $15,000, what he originally asked, you would have only paid him .30 cents a comic. Hey Dude, first time watching your stuff...u must be over the moon closing a longtime deal like that. You seem to know your stuff about storing as well as closing, but I would be remiss as a fellow vintage comic book collector if I didn't ask if you know about short and long term storage situations in a garage type setting. Just letting you and anyone else in a similar deal that comic books (even in bags, boarded and in acid free comic book boxes) can turn from white pages to yellow or even brittle brown in just a matter of years due to paint fumes, carbon dioxide from your car and just about anything you would find in a typical garage. A tarp may help but I don't know for sure but it's what I would do. Also you may want to lighten the load on some of the boxes by a handful so they're not so tight together if you're going for longer storage times. Just some observations I got from your video. Good on you for sticking to the chase and the score. I have 22000 of my own personal collection from childhood (just over fifty years of non stop collecting and absolutely loving them). Good luck on whatever future paths these books take. (Oh, this my wife's account in case you're wondering how she could be fifty years into comic collecting..Ha Ha)! She IS a TROOPER though!!!!!

Nicely done, Dominick. Hey I know abiut the last thing you need is suggestions about more things to do, but if you ever feel so inclinc]ded you might want to do a video or two about your method of inventorying and how you handle insurance on your inventory. A lot of resellers I now say simplistic things like "Oh my agent said my homeowner's insurance will cover any losses" _. But that just isn't so in several ways. First, you would only recover for what you could show that you had possession of ... you can't say "I had $10,000 worth of collectible comics stolen". Secon, the amount of inventory you own would far exceed the amount any homeowner's policy I am aware of is going to pay. A lot of resellers seem to walk on very thin ice in this regard. Anyway, best of luck with the reselling, I think you are going to do very, very well.
If you stack long boxes more than 3 boxes high you could be damaging the books at the bottom fyi. Also the first printing of the new mutants has only the us price on the cover, all later printings also had the Canadian price. Great video.

Hello there. Sounds like you got a great deal for all those comics. Not sure if you plan on keeping them in your garage but if you are I might reconsider due to moisture. It would be a shame if they got ruined.

Thanks. I have continuous dehumidifiers running in there which eliminates any moisture problems.
Thank you for sharing it with us
Nice haul, a little bit disappointed you didnt show on the video the keys u got.
So happy for you
The fact a whole year a year went by and no takers worked in your favor. I am sure other potential buyers were put off that the owner of the collection was unable to negotiate without consulting his wife first. I have to therefore question why someone else hasn’t purchased this collection unless they were low ballong the owner to the point it wasn’t worth selling. Good for you to follow up on him and working out a sweet deal where both parties are content. I am hearing good things concerning What Not so good luck! I am looking forward to seeing future videos updating on profits from selling those comics.

Thanks. Here is the update: averaging $1100-$1200 per 100 comics sold in the whatnot auctions. That does not count the keys which I mention elsewhere in the comments. I don’t think he shopped it anywhere in that one year.
Here's hoping you find some gems you didn't even know the collection included. :)
