I got evicted unfairly, in a family situation.Fortunately I met a friend, who offered me a room to rent in her home, but I had all my belongings in one of these stores. The problem was I couldn't find another job, my savings ran out as a result, and I lost everything I had PAID to store! The storage company only was concerned with money they could get by selling my important things - and like happens to people - I lost irreplaceable photos. The company wouldn't even let me have examination certificates that may have helped with getting a job. Your company sounds NORMAL and more sympathetic and HUMANE. What I just can't understand is how people can be so DIFFERENT on this planet, towards others!

The silver roll is Reflectix. You use it for insulating pipes, blocking heat in windows & in a cold emergency you can put a sheet under a sheet or blanket & it will reflect your body heat back to you.

Who knows what happened in these peoples lives.. to just abandon so much stuff that is linked to their lives.. trophies... and pictures.. and more.. its just sad! I wonder if anyone actually locates these people and tries to give the personal stuff back... like a good Samaritan Act! I would post a video of that... and show that HOPE & HUMANITY isnt failing!

As a storage facility owner/operator for 37 years, I also feel badly for the people who have to be sold out. Of the hundreds of sales, few have netted anything more than a trip to the dump. The pictures, etc. are always saved. No one ever comes to claim them. The problem is that they couldn't be found in the first place or their things would not have been sold. Due to whatever their personal situation in life is at the time, they lost the desire to own the items inside the unit. I work very hard to see that anyone who wants their goods is not sold out, but the truth is "when they are no longer in love with their stuff, it must go."

If what you say is true and I believe you are sincere. Maybe it would be a good idea to send the person a letter stating you have rented a storage unit on what ever date, you paid cash for a year or pay monthly by bank. Then if they die the family are aware! The family have an address, a contact number and a name. The storage operator also has a contact name and number to also contact customer if need be.😀

I agree with what Rick wrote. It is shame to wonder what happened to the people that put their life possession in a storage unit. I mean people rent places to store their "stuff" but when it comes to ward robes and things you have to wonder. The land lords or whatever have the information for the tenants and I do wonder if any effort is put in to return items.

I kept reading through the comments, and noticed lots of people feeling sad for the original owner of the contents inside. Not one person mentioned the fact that we all have a big pile of stuff & junk that we see as treasures. We pay to store it...move it around as our lives change, and think we could never live without these treasures. As well, we are all mere mortals...meaning, we all gonna die, & none of that stuff is riding along where we're going. Lots of people simply die, & the families don't know about the stored stuff.

It has been 40 years since I scrounged and sold stuff at a flea market. Prices have not changed during that time. Last year, when I was supposed to have died from cancer, I gave everything I had, except my IPad and Swedish flag, to my roommate and moved into a hospice. The things I cherished ended up in the garbage, so I heard. When I had to leave hospice because I didn’t die, I was given some clothes prior residents (who died) had left behind. The cancer is back, but I won’t go back to hospice until I have hours to live.

One more thing, the Montana Silversmiths is a very high end jeweler. And the trunk like piece you opened at the end is probably a reproduction piece of furniture from Mexico. It will say Hecho en Mexico on the bottom. Living in Texas, I see a lot of this type of furniture, it’s really sturdy, typically made of mesquite wood and heavy. The iron pieces are made to look old and rustic. Based on the sombrero and other things in the locker, that would make sense.

When moving stuff the least amount of times you touch it the better. Basically for small stuff instead of picking it up and move it to another spot 5 feet away, just pick it up once and move it to you destination, ie box, bin van, truck etc. Save yourself some time this way. I enjoy watching your videos and so thought I would share this with you. You made quite a profit with this unit!! So cool!!!

You NEVER KNOW what you'll FIND! I've lost a few boxes & it's not fun bc things that may mean something to me, may not to you! I had a unit in LV with ALL my crafting supplies, which was a business I had to end bc it was just too much to replace everything! Had other things too, but that's mainly what I wanted! Any info, please contact me at mhealy0103@gmail.com! WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!! Also had a small house in West Hampton Beach! Lots of craft supplies, showcases, display units, China/jewelry ĺ cabinet & more. Any info, email to mhealy0103@gmail.com.

I would maybe see about having it appraised. I do think it might be worth some $$$ also. Good for you. I lo forward to your next storage locker. Thanks for sharing.

Whatever side of the argument you find yourself on - “It’s just business, and if you don’t pay, you lose your property,” or “it’s cruel to pick over someone’s property,” what I found was it’s such a relief to stop using these storage units. My wife and I emptied ours (we had 2, after we’d moved from the Midwest (where houses have basements) to Arizona (where they don’t). Once we chucked the stuff we didn’t want or need (but were paying a couple hundred a month to store) and made room for the rest at home, it was a good feeling. The storage industry supports two bad habits: Procrastination and hoarding. Neither is good.

I paid over 20,000 over a 8 years and lost it anyway because with no car I could never get the stuff back to my house. I had always wanted to rent a pod (which is the same amount of money as the size unit I had) while my landlords were in florida for the winter so I could get the stuff to my house and throw out or have yard sales.. but I never had the money being a single parent. I eventually lost it at auction. :(
