I've been working with helium hotspots for around 2 months now. It's weird that you can just plug them in and make money. However, you need to invest quite a bit of money to really get them going. my friend and I have 4 hotspots that make him about $13 a day. Return on investment would take about 5 months, at least for his setup. He had to invest a bunch of money for the miners themselves, as well as the special cable and antennas which are the most important part. His house has a good view of the major city near us, so he had to mount his antennas on the top of his roof to make it viable. Overall I would say it is worth it, only if you are comfortable having a slow ROI. the setup that is being used in this video probably won't get him more than $3 a day, as the antenna needs to reach locations with good transmit scores (best one being 1), as your transmit score doesn't matter as much.

@@Foxingg yes it would. These are modded raspberry Pi's with extremely little power draw. In terms of getting the money back for a miner, if you take $3 a day x 30 days, that's $90 a month, meaning it would take something like 8 months to get your money back (if he paid $800 for the miner, my friend got them for $650 each on eBay) You would need to have multiple miners to make it profitable.

@@patman0250 nah think about it. if there was like some super easy get rich quick scheme that could be fit into a youtube short everyone would do it so it wouldnt be viable anymore. this guy essentially just acts as like a "tester" of other people's get rich schemes and presents like the real expected income you could get from them. he puts down the money and then tests it and then shows that hey, this scheme that was advertised to actually make you money as a side hustle basically doesn't do anything lol. thats extremely valuable since you wouldn't know if the scheme actually worked or not without putting down your own money and time to test it out. this guy essentially acts as a proxy for us to test it, and i assume once he actually finds a good side hustle, maybe he'll post it or maybe he'll keep it for himself. either way at least we know which side hustles/schemes to not bother with so you could potentially go down one of the one's that he hasn't done since he's cut down the total number of ones to try by a bit.

However, there are drops for some of these miners. I personally have gotten four from "get mntd" And they work flawless.(the default antenna sucks tho) You just got to be one of the lucky few who get one when the next drop happens.

Update. It made $3 in a month, but used $5 worth of electricity. I find that an actual job makes me a shitload.

Do you need wifi for this to work? I have a nice place in the center of my small city, but the only option I have is sparklight for 50$/month for 1-3mbps. And my near neighbors that have that say it's super spotty 😥

You can use Wi-Fi or a direct ethernet connection for it to work, also if it's in the center of a small City I would look into the hnt coverage map to see how many hotspots they're actually are in that area. If there's a lot where you want to put it you might not make the most amount of your earnings.

Yes you are 100% correct. Find a video of someone opening one of these up. Its litteraly a RaspberryPi with a long range radio receiver, would cost at most around $80 to build lol. Its also super sketchy because you have to open up your home network to it. So in the end of the day you are paying $800 to let someone control your home network... sus.

I've tried this it works okay I earn about 2 bucks a day but only cause its super saturated, the fiber glass antenna does help, and ur location is perfect, wish you luck cause unlike me I'm still down on my investment, check out planet watch it's way better.

Companies that use this tech pay the "network" and this network (the website/service) then figures out who shared their connectivity and pays them accordingly, and probably they get a little cut for keeping the infrastructure (the servers that track who needs to be paid) working. This is speculation, I've never used this system or similar systems

For those curious, this thing uses LoRa under the hood which is a 10 year old EXTREMELY low data rate wireless technology, so "The People’s Network" it creates is a cool concept but really only useful to IoT devices with tiny bits of information to send, like a vending machine telling its owner its out of peanuts. And the better the cellular networks get, the less value this network has.

Hight is might and don't forget line of sight! Don't put your antenna in front of a window it will block signal by 40%. Also Don't forget to add your correct location and hight and dbi in the helium app. Also open up port 44158 both in and out in your modem/router so the miner won't be relayed. Happy Mining.
