In this video, I bought a rare twin-turbo V8 BMW From An Auction who listed it as having a "Cracked" Engine! It also still ran and there were many other signs that this mysterious car wasn't really that broken. This was a really cool adventure and the kind of stuff I live for. If you're new and enjoy this kind of stuff, hit that subscribe button. Thanks so much and enjoy the show! Let's hope it's not like the Hoovies Garage X6!
Go check out my friend Sreten here on KZread! He kinda loves BMW.

    Bmw tech here, there's updated turbo coolant lines that are braided and the rear suspension is known to have alignment issues and eat rear tires also. Many people buy these N63s at auction in Toronto, bring them for inspection, realize it needs valve seals or timing chains for 10k+ and then just return them to the auction. Great cars when they run right though, good luck Alex!

    BMW tech here, few things. First and foremost make sure to register that battery since I’m sure the auction center didn’t. If you don’t it’ll wear out within a few months and you’ll need to put yet another battery in. This car looks to be in good shape but there was definitely a reason it was traded in. I knew someone who owned an X6 exactly like this and he was literally afraid to drive it because something would break almost every time he took it on a drive. The N63 is notoriously one of bmws most unreliable motors with problems like valve stem seals, turbo cooler lines (which was the coolant leak you showed in the video), vanos issues, and timing chain issues. The engine was so bad that bmw even had a class action settlement where certain cars that fall within certain model years would only have to pay $2500 for an entirely new engine at the dealer if the leaks were bad enough. Hopefully this one doesn’t give you any issues but I know they can be real headaches.

  • @doingyamom

    @doingyamom

    2 күн бұрын

    @@mi16t It’s completely dependent on the vehicle. Essentially the vehicle pulls a certain amount of current from a battery depending on its age and voltage. The older the battery is, the more energy it pulls from the battery since older batteries require more current in order to get the same power from them as a new battery. If a car has a new battery but thinks it’s 10 years old it’ll pull too much current and may cause the car to become over voltage and wear the battery out sooner. When you register the battery, the control module is telling the vehicle that it can pull less power from the battery in order to achieve the proper voltage to the vehicle. So in your case it most likely means that your battery wasn’t completely bad so it didn’t need to pull insane amounts of power from it which means your car will more easily adapt to a new battery vs a car like Alex’s. The battery in his car was most likely very dead and probably completely depleted which is why they put a new battery in it, which means it’d be much more important to register the battery in his car vs your car with a battery that most likely wasn’t completely bad yet. I’m not trying to ‘spread lies’, I’m just trying to help.

    Try replacing/cleaning the vanos solenoids behind the intercoolers. The lower bolt that fastens the intercooler to the engine is a pain to get to. While you have the intercoolers out, take a dremel to the tab/hole to make it an "open" hole. Then you can pre thread the bolt onto the engine and slip the intercooler onto that bolt. Makes it much easier the next time around. If that's it, $3000 is a steal. Upper oil pan gasket probably should be replaced, but that involves dropping the subframe.

    LOL you can tell Alex hasn't owned a car with a ski bag. It's for your wet skis to put them inside the car rather than on the roof, but not get the interior all wet.

    Pull the Vanos solenoid on the bank with fluctuating pressure and clean it with carb cleaner. 90% chance it fixes your problem. Super common with BMWs from this era for the vanos to be clogged when they get run with low oil.

    It's a ski bag, Alex! :) You stick your downhill skis in from the trunk and lay them on the rear-seat center console. These days, when a 6' person skis on 165 cm slalom skis, they will comfortably without messing up the car interior. No need to a roof rack, so you can still show off on the Autobahn on the way back home :)

    The stiffening plate is for the front axles, it does help reinforce the front flex, and helps not put too much stress/flex on the front axles for Xdrive. On FCP Euro or even bmw sometimes they are called axle reinforcement plates.

    This all bringsback memories.😅 are used to maintain one of these engines oil leaking coolant Leaking machines. Every oil change was repairing something leaking. Then the engine decided to spin a bearing at 76,000 miles. I did oil changes half the time that the manufacturer suggested.
