I've been a working photographer for 52 years and a Leica shooter for 35. Two years ago I sold my M8 and M9 and found a mint M-P Type 240 with less than 250 shutter actuations. I have gorilla hands and the camera fits me perfectly. For me it is the perfect camera. It's battery life is incredible, the images exquisite. I will never sell it. You made a very good choice. The M-P240 is my daily tool, and It was brand new, when I bought it some six years ago. I've a M240 too. The booth fit me as a press photographer. Enjoy your M-P 240 and keep on rolling!

Agree! Just bought a 246 for all the same reasons. Exposure still a work in progress, but interesting to have actually work on basics. Good video-thx!

Cool, another 240 video. I have the ME-240. Gotta watch out the highlights. They tend to clip easily on the 240s. I usually shoot at -0.3 or ever -0.7EV. I like the colors on the 240 especially paired with a Zeiss glass.

In the past, it was difficult to recommend because of the lowlight performance, but after adding the Lightroom Ai noise removal function, the M240 is good enough

I also have the MP-240 but in black with a 35mm Summicron. I switched over from Fuji xpro2 at back in 2021. I'd say it took me about 4 months of constant use before something switch and I realised why I chose the camera. Itsincredible, I took it with me on a trip to Japan last year and every image I capture blew my mind, the colours the camera produces are as I see them with no real need to edit.

I agree, not only it produces stunning and believable colours as standard, but they have a lot of lattitude for ' sensible ' editting. In a bizzare way I love what the camera produces when set to film mode ' vivid '. Totally out of this world colours.

M240/ VM 35 Ultron ii have the same combo. At 67 I see the power of limitation. Like Bruce Lee said, "I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times."

I have a black Typ 240. It is as close an experience using this digital camera to my Leica M film cameras as I could get. I also usually set it to Auto iso 1600 and the I couldn't tell the difference between 200 and 1600 just by looking at the images on my 27" Retina screen . At iso 3200 it does show noise, but here I use it for monochrome photography. It is also made of brass, not Aluminium alloy, so in time it will show that beautiful Leica patina ( it has already started ). If people want a digital camera that is close as they could get tpo Leica M film cameras this is the one. They are by no means cheap, but I think compared to the price of the latest offerings from Leica, they do represent a bargain in the land of Leica M cameras.

Agreed. I always hesitate to call any Leica a bargain but I'd agree that the 240s have incredible relative value. Great point about the monochrome. That's what I've been doing for my higher ISO images and it has saved a great many!

Funny you mention considering a Leica Q, been wanting to try it forever and just got a great deal on a Q2. Figured I can try it and won't lose any money if I resell in a bit. The lens is definitely a big chunky, more so than MF only on an M body. That being said it's something I feel comfortable carrying around all day. Unlike my Sony lenses haha. But for day to day casual and re sparking the joy of photography it's been fantastic! I'd probably only consider selling it to go with a M6 as I've been shooting film lately too. Enjoyed the video!

Of course! Always love popping by to see what you are up to and hear your thoughts. I likewise really would like to try the M digital cameras. Figured the Q would be fun to see what all the hype was about. I started film with just a little kodak half frame like 3 months ago for like $50 haha and loved the vibe I got with the on camera flash. Then recently snagged an Olympus XA off ebay for like $120 which is cool bc it's a rangefinder style 35mm f2.8 awesome lens in a point and shoot literally pocketable camera, highly recommend. It's fun stuff just for a change of pace, kinda re sparked my enjoyment of photography and that it's about moments not gear. @@boywithacamera

I believe the shutter drop is due to the focal length multiplier for shutter combined with gating the ISO fairly conservative. I have ISO max at 6400 and my auto iso shutter set to 1/500 to 1/250 (nyc street is FAST ha) and it never dips. But yeah, M240 is my long term camera purchased in 2024 as well. Its honestly pretty perfect. I get why people need more but those of us who don't are pretty lucky- cause this camera is a joy!

Just bought a M8, those sensors are unforgiving. But when it's well exposed and sharp you get the most beautiful image. Love your approach, I hope mine will cure my GAS haha

Congrats on the M8! I loved loved loved the images coming out of that camera when I had one. The rf was out of calibration on mine so it was such a challenge getting usable images. Wish I was a bit more patient when I had it though because something about that sensor is truly special. Rooting for your GAS to be cured too!

@@craig_cunha I had it and wasn’t happy with e colors. I do have the m10m as well but just prefer the 240 colors. I think the m-p has a faster buffer than the regular 240 as well so the differences were much smaller than what you might experience if you’re moving from the plain 240 to the m10.

Bought one back in December and absolutely love it. It's exactly what I want at this point in my photography and it's great to finally really get some use of my two Leica lenses (35 and 50 mm) my grandpa passed down to me. Really love the simplicity and ease of shooting with the MP 240.

Love this video! had the MP-240 for a while and now have an m262 with 28mm summicron. kinda miss the 240 tho haha. How do you get things in focus that are farther away, but not necessarily infinity? do you use the distance scale? always had trouble with that haha.

I was looking at the 262 as well but couldn't find any on my local used market! I have trouble with that as well and trying to improve haha. I'm slowly getting used to focusing to infinity and pulling back a bit, which seems to be working :)

I got a Canon 5D3 for a very long time. I got M-P 240 7 years ago, and I never really used it ...... but recently I started to learn how to use it, and it was fun. I'm using a 35mm lens, and I have a question, how could I find some good 35mm photos for learning?

I have owned an M-P 240 since August last year and tbh I still feel conflicted about it. I’ll preface that by saying I also have an M6 and a Q. My M6 is incredible and I love that thing can’t even consider the possibility of giving it up but I picked up the 240 in an attempt to reduce the spending on film. The Q is amazing and I love it for easy travel but the 240 falls in this strange in between where when the images are right they look really right but only in some situations. Of course the real advantage is the digital workflow and the absolutely insane battery. I have 3 batteries and I was in Chicago for 2 and a half weeks I didn’t even need to swap batteries once. I’m thinking about selling mine as a result but find it equally hard to part with

Ah M6 and Q sounds like a fantastic combo so I can see where you may feel conflicted. 2 and a half weeks is legendary haha. If you're mainly shooting wider focal lengths then I feel like you could get away with the Q and you still have the M6 if you're really craving that rangefinder experience. The 240 seems like a great balance between the 2 though so I guess we're stuck in a loop haha. I feel like I'm loving more of my images the more I use the camera though so maybe you could try to give er another good stretch of shooting before making a decision?

Love the shutter sound and how the files render pixels. How do you deal with any banding on higher ISOs? Do you know of any software that would help with removing that type of banding?

Agreed! And ah shit, I knew I would forget something. The banding is pretty bad from 3200 and on, you can see it in the first image here: joonrho.com/30blog/day-3 I'm not familiar with any software, but maybe Topaz has something? I personally don't mind it too much to be honest as I'm just trying to figure out how to shoot at lower ISOs. When I can't avoid it, it's definitely noticeable but I find it somewhat pleasing. Obviously best to avoid but not the end of the world when it's there imo (unless it's client work, then yikes)

As far as the banding, if you don’t like it, this camera kinda forces you to expose or shoot like it’s literally film in a way. I have a choice for a new camera, I only buy user. I don't know which to choose between Sony A7 C or a Leica M240. I already have a Sony 7 II but I would like a portable and small camera, the Leica corresponds to a relatively smaller camera, but the Sony A7 II has a trigger that is too noisy

The M240 has a relatively loud shutter too so if you're after a silent shutter you may want to pick up a Sony or other modern mirrorless!
