When it comes to ebay listings yeah, shady people love to lie on ebay. When you buy something in bulk from goodwill labeled parts than your not really getting scammed. They're definitely not selling you a palate of working consoles....But then again anyone going to goodwill expecting to get "quality" just LMFAO.

Goodwill calls them untested/parts or repair. They don't test them but call them parts or repair to cover themselves. The sketchy part is them clearly tossing stuff in the box with no care (hence all of the consoles that are physically broken) and then very clearly removing all of the hard drives from the 360s with no mention of them being removed

Just imagine, if only this collection included tech from the 90's, you would struck retro gold my friend. From late 00's onwards, there's just been an overabundace of content, and this amazing video is the perfect example. Those mangled consoles, miles of cables, scratched CD's are like a time capsule from hell. I miss retro aesthetics and the quality of games/tech 'Made in Japan' from back in a day. I was so close to visiting Japan at one point. I had experience with MoCap and in late 2015 I was in contact with Capcom about the facial likeness role of Leon for the Resident Evil 2 Remake. I failed to mention I also have a voice acting background, in the end I lost the part and I can't forgive myself for wasting such an opportunity to visit the place that inspired artists like Toriyama San and movies like Akira and Ghost in the Shell.

As cool as it is to come across pre 2000s consoles, post 2000s consoles end up being much better for the testing videos I make on these consoles. On newer consoles (primarily wii, 360, ps3, and newer) people tend to leave lots of their old save data, personal data, discs inside consoles, etc. And it's content gold. The older consoles are still interesting, but there is significantly less to explore on those consoles since people couldn't leave stuff saved on the consoles

Late 90's/early 00's a/v stuff is skyrocketing lately. I saved two different boomboxes from Goodwill and both are minimum asking 80 on ebay, and my local store is selling it around that price too. I paid like 6 for each, and they cleaned up really well and still work. Goodwill can be a gold mine for certain things like retro A/V (dvd players, VCRs, boomboxes etc.) and old PC games and sometimes console stuff too. You just have to have a ton of patience.

I find it fascinating how these awesome consoles are mass produced and then just dumped a few years later for upgraded versions. This is why I wish the technology development progression would go very slowly so we could have more time with 360s and ps3s.

Agreed but alas such is the economic model of these companies, otherwise they wouldn't exist. Double edged sword. Everyone jumps on the newest product because of excellent marketing which preys on "fomo". It works well and sustains their business model but I guess if it didn't exist, console companies would go the way of Sega. I guess you,me, and many others at least appreciate our older tech such as the 360 and PS3.

Why are they removing the hard drives? Are those valuable? Or is it a case of not wanting to sell used HDDs? I've known many electronics shops that refuse to get involved with used (usually PC) HDDs, due to not wanting to be connected to anything some weirdos could have had on them. Edit: I got to the part with some loose drives included, so I guess that's not the issue.

I just love the absolute perfection of a screen or plastic after taking the protective film off. I'm amazed that there is an original Xbox that doesn't have it removed.

I am predicting leaky caps at this point. Might have more hardware issues, probably dead harddrives, considering how they were handled.

If they said cords at front they probably kept hard drives with the cords so people couldnt easily take them out at the goodwill

Most likely yes. Possibly a little more than tossing. Some Goodwill organizations dump everything into those boxes (or the plastic fold-up ones) and then sort it out later. A lot of albums get ruined that way too, not to mention glassware. Fun fact: some of the organizations reuse those boxes internally, even after shipping trash in them (if a store doesn't have waste pickup, it might get packed and sent somewhere else). Also gotta love the storing of donations (clothes included) in used meat processing plant boxes with "leftovers" on/in them. At least some Goodwill organizations do not clean the clothes, they're sold as they come in. I really wish Jacob would wear long sleeves and gloves to get in those boxes. Preferably something disposable.
