Love these videos. Can’t beat the actual realism. Anyone who’s ever looked at private car sales, knows there’re as many different owners as there are types of vehicles.

Hi Matt, Great car selection once again (your selection is almost as good as your one liners). I drove a lot of these in my car salesman days and absolutely enjoyed delivering rhem to customers in Wales, or bringing theirs as px's and would sometimes keep them over night/weekends. THE FUN I USED TO HAVE IN THESE TYPE CARS (on trade plates) 😉

Such a good car, always wanted one of these and this looks pretty good all things considered! I had a 3.0 V6 swb Shogun, bloody loved it, put a stainless cat back straight through pipe on her she sounded like thunder 😍

This brings back lots of memories. Not specifically to the "Sport", but I had a second generation Pajero 2.5 TD once. I loved that car more than the other five I have owned so far and I cannot explain why.

Probably this love because, "Sport" is not whimsical and not picky about the quality of fuel, very maintainable, very reliable, since it does not have glamorous stuffed electronics ... I have this "Sport" for the fourteenth year, I really like it, I live in Ukraine ...

Great video pal, I bought one of these a 07 in November 2021, they are called a pajero sport in Ireland and only €333 commercial tax, (2 front seats) mine has leather seats also, I use it for hunting, towing and mucking about in crap weather, I love it! great second vehicle to have even with over 320km on the clock. Some rust on my chassis that needs to be patched and small leak on the diesel tank, but plan on keeping mine for many years to come.

This is a great educational instructional video on buying an older used car, excellent stuff.

I haven't seen one of these in that good of condition in *YEARS.* They were sold here in the US as the Montero Sport and they were really popular but you almost never see them anymore. Most were petrol V6's that had head gasket issues which generally totalled them out because they didn't hold their value anywhere near as well as the Toyota 4Runner. Neat to see one alive and well!

I had one of these in Aus, was a great cheap capable 4 wheel drive. Drove it all around Australia including river crossings and along beaches. Only issue I ever had was it was a bit tricky engaging 4wheel drive, did get stuck in the sand once because of that!!! Still I'd buy another one for sure!

Bought a few 3.5lt SWB Pajero imports, always great value, tough and reliable and great gearbox changing from 2 -4 wd on the move. They had never been off road when I got them from Japan.

Got one of these in 2006. 2.8L. Import 😬. Badged as a Mitsubishi ‘Challenger’. N reg. Juicy. But incredibly reliable for an old motor.

I used to have one of these years ago, the 4x4 system was basic so you were supposed to leave it in 2wd on the road, in snowy conditions you could drift it. But I do remember it being slow, and I say that having bought it to replace a land rover defender

I will never forget that engine sound. My dad used to have a L200 Trojan. It was a beast off-road. It was a great in town too, no curb too big :,D Good times and great car.

Thanks for the video. I have exactly the same on a 55 plate, its a beautiful 4x4. I also have another one, a Shogun Sport Equippe, 2001 which somehow drives better than the Warrior.

I have 2002 one of these in New Zealand - 2.8 turbo diesel with 335km on the clock and I love it like an old friend. About time for an upgrade but there's a certain freedom about having a car where the odd additional bump or scratch causes no stress.

Nice find. I run Mitzi's. Dealer has a 16 plate SWB Shogun Warrior in atmo. Only 25,000, think its been used for towing a horse box around. Asking price made me gulp, £28,600....

I had a mitsubishi L200 2003, same era and thoroughly enjoyed it. Its fun to drive something agricultural, going for a drive was always an event and it put a smile on my face. Re sloppy drive, mine wasn't, except the first half turn of the steering wheel did absolutely nothing, then it turned very sharply after that. Don't worry about scratches and bumps, it adds to the character. Of course the misses hated it. It was crude, bouncy, loud, especially tiring on long journeys. But I loved it! I sold it 2yrs later for 50e more than I paid.

I had one for 9 years and I must say it was one of the best cars I have ever had, on the last year with 95k I had to replace a feul pipe over the back axle other than that an excellent truck, it was a 52 reg so the tax was just over £300 . Nice one matt !

I bought a 2000 XLS about 6 months ago. Been sitting for 3 years. A little work and it was worth the $1200.

I bought one of these new in 2002, in Australia you only got the 2g72 3.0 petrol V6. Wasn't real quick, and pretty thirsty too. Ultra vague steering and not a lot of kit either. Ended up trading it for a '96 80 series LandCruiser with low ks. Now THAT was a car for sure!

I like these videos' when you go into the field, so to speak, and check out these older vehicles. Looking at these vehicles and their condition, they tell a story. What did the previous owner do? How did it get in that condition? Cool stuff.

Older vehicles is all I buy and have never spent more than £2,400 on any car in 35 years of motoring which was the most unreliable car I've had for many a year so I'm back driving an 05 Mondy and it's brilliant.

A classic of bangernomics. Always liberating to drive around in a car worth essentially nothing.

@@4N50N it is when the car essentially has zero value to depreciate. Which normally is the single biggest cost hit to a car owner. £50 a month in road tax becomes irrelevant when the car is basically free.

These are very good 4x4s. Went quad biking in Wales few years ago and the owner had to drive us up a mountain gravel road of 30 degrees whilst towing 5 quad bike's on the back and it did without break a sweat.

It was called a Pajero Sport in most of Europe. The owners manual is correct.

In my country and all center America its called Mitsubishi Nativa 😂. PD: In Japan is Mitsubishi Challenger.

I was pleasantly surprised by this! When I lived in a flat my downstairs neighbour had a couple of these when they first came out. I never quite knew whether they were an L200 with an estate body like a Hilux Surf, or a model in its own right.

Had mine for over 10 years, still going strong, still in lovely condition. Agreed its agricultural, tax is bad (mine is a 56 plate too) but I still get a buzz driving it. Great facebook group too if anyone is keen on owning one 👍

Wish to find this in my country specifically with a manual, always preferred the simpler tech and boxy body of this generation, it's perfect for the roads here. I daily a vehicle with a non-turbo version of the 4d56 engine, just love the sound of a diesel.

My Dad had one of these - absolute money pit! I loved it though. You're lucky you got the owners manual for the Pajero Sport - ours had the L200 one for some reason

I try not to comment on your older videos since finding your channel recently, Matt. But this one deserves it. I learned that this SUV is apparently still sold outside of America. Highly controversial vehicle. Know as the Montero Sport in America. (There was a completely different SUV sold along side it just called the Montero.) The Sport during certain model years suffered from horribly excessive roll-over issues that injured many folks. When I say that, I mean even by SUV standards. Massive class-action lawsuit against Mitsubishi. The company pulled a very sleazy move. They stopped selling it, entirely here. (Those model years version that had the issue.) Then had their lawyers file one motion after another, after another.... Delaying the start of the lawsuit proceedings for so many years, that by the time the suit actually began; there were no working Montero Sport models left in America, of those model years. The few that existed, were non-running to an extreme degree. Usually rusting away in junkyards. Unable to get independent testing done on any working examples of the Sport, the Plaintiffs' lawyers were unable to prove that the SUV suffered from horrendous roll-over. Thus the case against Mitsubishi was dismissed. Later versions didn't have that issue. But backlash from the public caused Mitsubishi to pull the SUV entirely out of the U.S.

Pukka buy that one! Loads of life left in it. Fresh mot, bumper clipped up properly, ebay special in the dash, worth 2500 for a quick flip all day long. Not worth minting up in my humble opinion. Would work for all sorts of people. Field hack. Tip runner or even a green lane project. Great content as usual Matt, thank you

I bought a really tidy one of these in July last year. It is actually registered in Jan 06 on a 55 plate so cheaper road tax.. FSH with 56,000 miles on it. It is just a great thing to drive, i like it a lot, but then i do like that era of 4x4s. I think yours will make a decent car with a bit of tidying up.

I bought one of these around 8 years ago to use over winter blue at the top silver bottom half think it was a equippe model, was excellent condition but very agricultural to drive like a disco 2

i know this might be a little late, but gates powergrip (the sticker on the airbox) is an actual timing belt kit. and a damn good one.

Had a 3.0 l v6 petrol shogun sport warrior. It was an awesome thing. Turned petrol into noise and a little bit of go.

Very similar to the Toyota Surf. I had one of those go sideways on me around a mini roundabout. As soon as the turbo light came on, the back end stepped out. Luckily managed to catch it as it did take me by surprise. There are more Shogun Sports to choose from than Toyota Surfs so probably a better bet.

I've always liked the design of these!

It's always worth checking the rear centre armrest on a new purchase... I bought a lovely Saab 9000 years ago. Promised it had a full history but the book was missing. Took the gamble and bought it. Having a general mooch it around when I got it home. Pulled down the rear armrest, and there was Saab service book duly fully stamped! Rumor was that unscrupulous bidders at auction would get to a vehicle early, and hide the history away to put off other bidders looking around. No idea how true that is...but mine was certainly 'stored' in a strange location. The rest of the doc pack was in the usual place.

I'd say you'll make some money on that one, Matt. In addition to the obvious stuff, some of those advisories from the previous MOT may need attending to but it should clean up well. And there are plenty of suckers out there who just MUST have an SUV - what, with the school run and all.

I like it ! Mitsubishi had some iconic shaped SUV's. You can tell the brand a mile away. Surprised they are so cheap. Be nice to see an update if you choose to get it fixed before you sell it. After polishing my shoes yesterday ( I highly recommend Saphir products ) I was cringing with each squelchy step in the mud in your boots. Get yourself some wellies Matt - you know it makes sense ! Or some SWIMS brand shoe galoshes

Sticker on air cleaner: "I Wonder what that means?" Gates Powergrip should refer to the cam belt, and Micro-V the auxiliary belt(s). So if those visible are Gates branded you're quids in with the cam belt, assuming it wasn't done too long back. Also surprised you didn't use 4x4 to get out of the mud: good opportunity to check for transfer box and front diff whine. Low ratio too? Great video though Matt.

they still called these the Challenger all the way to the end of the PB Series here in Australia then when the PC came around they took on the name of Pajero Sport. i still drive a Gen 1 PA version of one of these its still pretty nice, being the only traction adding system of 4WD

Bought a SWB Shogun in '89 and it felt so slow after test driving a Daihatsu Fourtrak Van, but wasn't too bad after it was run in. Had it converted to a van at Mitsubishi UK Cirencester (they didn't offer them off the shelf), ran it as a van for 15yrs then put the windows and seats back in and used it as a family wagon for another 5. Daihatsu were the new kids on the block back then and were half the price of the Mitsubishi, probably should've opted for Daihatsu as it drove really nice and at £9K including the vat was really good value.

Previously owned a Challenger, fabulous truck

Depends how rotten the sills are and other chassis bits, and whether there is corrosion near seat belt mounts. If they are no good its a scrapper. Otherwise it might tidy up nicely. My 04 Kia Sorento had had it by 2017 even though I got it welded. I kept it 12 months too long.

That’s one hell of a good truck! I have. 2000 Montero Sport as called in the U.S.

I had a Shogun Sport as a company car for 3 years...did about 100k in it. It was a 3.0 V6 Auto version. It was a great car and taken off-road countless times. Never got stuck once having switched the standard Bridgestone Dueller tyres for BF Goodrich All-Terrains. Used to regularly warp the front discs - crap quality and very expensive for a non-premium brand (twice the cost of ML discs). I normally get 60-70k out of discs...these needed replacing at every service! That was the only grumble though.

I had a 89 mk1 Perjero exeid . Mint condition. Import 2.5 auto Pulled a caravan all around Spain in 2005. Great drive wish I never sold it. Guy took it down Africa. I payed 600 with 12 months MOT . Silver and blue. Had some fun off road in Spain. Not many for sale.

That muddy ground does my head in.

I was looking at 04 and 05 Shogun Sports before I settled on an 05 Honda CR-V Sport 2.2 diesel. The issue with the Shoguns is they are cheap to buy, but cost more to maintain, or so I kept hearing. And with the 55 plates onwards the tax goes up to £650 a year.

The blue tape should just add value to the car 😂 is that muddy place the only one you could find to filming your cars Matt? 😂 Great content as usual

It was called ‘Challenger’ in Australia. Ownership could be challenging…… It’s the Mitsubishi version of the Toyota 4Runner. A wagon built on the chassis of their twin cab utility. The same engine was also in the Hyundai i800.

I wasn't expecting the interior to be that luxurious ... was my first thought at the video started.

Hi Matt I wouldn't spend too much on this vehicle, you've already spent a tenner get it through its MOT then see if it's worth persevering with, that bumper and rusty front wing is likely to blow any profit into the weeds.

Ive bought one cheap too, few years ago. Pros - itnwas fully loaded and you could drive over anything without realising. It was fun to drive off road.fuel consumotion was decent, comparsble to other car i had at the time with 35mpg. Cons- its not made for long motorway journeys, at least not the diesel one, over 60 mph it was just too much, i mean it did 80 mph but the engine was reving like hell. Headgasket was out when i bought it, i had it fixed and it was running happily, but the next owner took it for a long drive across europe andnit blew it again in a worse way. I hear its common with them.
