In Finland the main dealer wax oiled all Sorentos before they were sold to the first owner. Probably that's why mine has survived without excessive underside corrosion. Mine does also have rusted rear arches, but you can get repair kits for them for dirt cheap and they are easy to replace. By the way, it's a 5-speed auto because it has the tiptronic style gear lever.

This is so so nostalgic for me. My dad had one of these for 5 years, same year wheels and all but silver. 2.5 turbo diesel manual and had full cream interior. Massive fun, amazing on and off-road, decent MPG if you drive it a bit more daisy day to day, and it only had very few things go wrong with it. In the end it had to go as it had 180k miles on it and the rear subframe started to get holes in it. It was sold and used for another year before it wasn’t MOTd since 2018 and is probably sat in a field now as the scrap marker still hasn’t been fulfilled.

It was a game changer for anybody who towed a caravan, a horse box or a small yacht. You didn't need an old Land Rover tucked away for weekends. The Sorento could do it all and be the daily driver. The Sportage couldn't do that, and the early ones were a bit ugly. The Mk1 Sorento could tow 3500kg.

Yes, that amount of corrosion hasn't occurred during the last twelve months surely. MOTs are a bit of a mystery. They've moaned about the tyres (particularly the o/s front inner tread very low) on my old Lexus two years running. I don't use it much, however I thought I'd get a second opinion as the front drivers side looks fine to me. The manager of the tyre retailer measured the tread on all four tyres and we agreed with the tester that the back ones are on 3mm, inner low, but he concluded that both the front ones were fine. All of this bearing in mind that they're in the business of selling tyres. 🤔.

All that rot could have been prevented by getting a hose under the sills and chassis on a regular basis, to wash off the salt. People don't wash their own car any more, so they don't give it the TLC to make it last. The other moral of this tale is ALWAYS check out a car before buying if you are a private buyer. A two minute walk round of that and you walk away or offer the vendor scrap value.

We had a 2004 Kia Sedona MPV for a few years, this was predominantly used for towing our caravan. For a solo drive it would be a lumpy old bus and cornered like the titanic around the iceberg but put a ton and half caravan on the back and the Sedona came into its own and cruise up steep hills like a freight train. A brilliant workhorse but eventually Hyundai offered us to much money to px it in for an IX35 to turn down. The VED cost was getting out of control too. I was very fond of that big old Korean car, it was so very dependable, powerful and comfortable. Everything we look for in a working car.

I have a habit, which is as the titles roll in your introduction I open autotrader to see what we are looking at. First car for sale was yours. I must stop spoiling some of these for myself. It is like opening a book at the last page as instantly on the Autotrader website I see the outcome of the video.

Pity about the car but every cloud has a silver lining. Keep the Clannad CD. Clannad are an Irish group from Donegal who gained fame in the UK on the back of their theme music to the TV series Robin the Hooded Man which you may be too young to remember. They have a huge following all over the world.

This generation of Sorento was very popular in Greece. Some people still use them, despite the fact that they are quite old. Most of them are very dependable and all of them are rust free. I was socked by the amount of rust..

I had a 2004,3.5 litre V6, petrol, it was a great car! I loved it! It wasn't a bad soft roader either, my only gripe was the road holding or rather lack of it!

I quite fancied one of these when they first came out, I wanted the diesel as I was doing about 25,000 miles a year at the time. The dealer offered me a drive in a v6 petrol and got quite annoyed when I said I’d prefer to drive the diesel version I actually wanted to buy.. we agreed to disagree and went on our separate ways!

I got rid of my XS to We Buy Any Car six years ago. I loved it, but at 160,000 miles the problems were stacking up. I had spent quite a lot on it in the previous two years so I kept it two years too long. I had it for eleven years.

I really enjoyed this video. You also highlighted the plight of all small business owners: that to run a business successfully you have to go to extra lengths to bring in revenue in order to pay the ever increasing costs of running that business. And for that you have my respect.

Matt sometimes the tyre date code is on the other side of the tyre, so don't always think that you're being blind as it may not be on the outer side. Ideally they should really be on both sides I think.

My mate had a Burgundy over grey which we went to Wales in (many years ago) it was a big old beast & at the time i was into sporty looking cars probably ‘cos of our age but that trip changed my mind & anything big & square looking now is more appealing…i’ve only got a old Touran which in two years time will be classed as a ‘barn find’…great vids on these kind of motors👍🏼

Kia cars from this era all rust pretty easily it looks like. My grandpa has a Kia k2500 truck and I don't think I have ever seen a vehicle with a higher tendency to rust. That thing only has 150k kilometres on it but it already had severe rust issues TWICE, we had it fixed but the rust came back again. Not to mention the camshaft failed too at 145k

This was a fun episode. I noticed that when you braked, the resultant pulsing reminded me of the stanky leg syndrome in those wild pig extermination videos from America. A damn shame this car wasn't looked after properly. It's a very attractively shaped vehicle. Some owners have more money than sense.

Look at the ad? Well normally I would, but as I’ve said before, I had been watching your videos from the start, and when I bought my car from you, I gave the ad a cursory glance, and bought the car unseen. Not something I would recommend, but I sort of trusted you, and to be honest, I haven’t loooked back. The car is still the best I have ever had. Apart from from my SAAAB 9000Cd. One thing I miss about your recent videos, is the crazy metaphors you used to drop in to the commentary. E.g. ‘in these cars, the back of the vehicle is in another postcode’. Admittedly you need to be British to get that _ and it could be true!😊😊
