Fj transfer case will bolt right into your gx which will make it a selectable 4 wheel drive not all wheel drive. Gives you better gas mileage and you can find a used unit for under $500.

I have an 04 with 430k kilometers. Drives great except I had to change struts coz the air suspension went on me. I regretted not getting another air suspension. It's super soft. I have issue with cracked dash, DVD player won't work, speakers rough and the cluster needs fixing. Speedometer won't work, only sometimes. I have the same colour and interior but needs a driver side seat leather replacement. Let me know if you see a driver side seat. Looking fwd for your videos

Great intro Z! My mostly stock 2003 GX470 has 260k miles. I’m the second owner after purchasing from Lexus dealer CPO coming off a lease with about 35k on the Odom. In my 13years of ownership I have never had any problems. One thing I wanted to add to your excellent commentary: the car has outstanding view for the driver with its big windows all around; stable and maneuvers on the freeway is excellent for an SUV. I’ve avoided a few spin outs in front of me.

I have a 1997 80 series and a 2006 GX, and they are very similar in many ways. Curb weight is almost identical, wheelbase is only 2" different (GX is longer), third row seats work exactly the same, and much more. I was shocked at how similar they were in overall layout when I got the GX. The GX seems very much like an updated and improved 80 series. However, the 80 series wins with the front axle instead of independent fronts (in my opinion). You got a decent price on that truck.

Do you prefer one over the other? I test drove both but my 6’2” frame didn’t fit in the 4Runner without my head hitting the ceiling 😆 I ended up in a GX470 and am so stoked I did! It’s one of my favorite vehicles I’ve ever driven or owned.

@@marcusyoung4245 That might be the toughest question I’ve ever been asked haha. I like the 4Runner because it’s a little smaller and has a slightly higher towing capacity. I like the GX because it rides smoother, is more comfortable and luxurious. Although I do like the simplicity of the 4Runner. If I had to pick one I’d get both.

I almost bought that exact car off of craigs list. Is that the one that had the odometer replaced and the mileage was off? There were a couple of odd things about it that turned me off. I love me 2004 GX470 though. And of course I loved the dog shot.

The timing belt and water pump has already been done.....I should hope so. It should be on it's second round. My 99 LX470 (same engine) has 293K and it's on it's 3rd timing belt maintenance. It's never broken down. The only reason it would keep breaking is if you keep jumping it like that LOL. It's not a short course truck or a Raptor.

Feels about the same as my raptor. Just buy good suspension and you can jump your gx without issue (unless your frame is rusted out).

I picked up an 08 GX470 this year after looking at a half dozen over 3 or 4 months. Went out of state and got a much nicer GX with 140,000 on it for about 9 grand. Did the Timing kit with water pump. 3 peak tires all around with fresh brakes. I find myself driving this GX most of the time now. My wheels are ate up . so thinking stimulus money will go into some Vision 398 off road wheels. When bags fail I plan on an Old Man Emu 2" kit. It will see more beaches than rock or mud trails.

We must pay 30k USD for a GX470 made in 2005 in Vietnam in 2023. In VN we love Lexus!
