I Bought a Cheap E36 325i Sedan and Instantly Regretted It! Let's Fix and Drive It

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

When a deal pops up on marketplace(or so what I thought was a deal) I have to act on it. However after a 2 hour drive I found myself rather disappointed, but had to follow through with the mission anyway, and that is why I present to you my very rusty 1995 325i E36 Sedan! Lets check it out, get it running, and see how this rust bucket drives. Maybe by the end we will find it's actually not that bad!

Would love to see videos documenting your process on flipping/parting out cars; finding the car, buying it, and total made after flipping/parting. I want to get into this myself but don’t really know what’s a good deal and what parts are going for these days. Keep up the good work!

I've run a 1994 318iS Coupe M42 for five years now. I had one before that since 2007. So easy to fix, not that it needs fixing often unlike E46 scrap with it's plastic crap, push fit hoses, never ending oil leaks, CEL's and the cooling system designed by a maniac.

E36's and rust just go so well together. Spent the last two days uncovering hidden rust on mine that was supposed to be rust free when I looked at it to buy it a few months ago. Found a first hole in August somewhere in the rear arches, was an easy repair, in like october I removed the front wheel liners and found a big pile of dirt at the bottom of the fenders, holes in the fenders, holes in the car itself. Since the last two days I've been scraping the underseal and the hole has gotten bigger and bigger, found a puddle in the passenger's floor board too. After cutting the rust on my front right jacking point I got like 30cm (a foot) missing in the rocker) and like a 5cm (2inch) wide strip missing of the floor pan. Really weird since it got no rust at the arches, quarters, no rust on the visible parts of the rockers, it really was a catfish type of car, looked mint before I digged too much. Still overall not a rusty car, like the bolts ain't rusty, and like I said it doesn't have the usual rust at the arches, when I looked at the car I kind of pried apart the M side skirts and saw what looked like mint rockers so I thought I just got lucky. But the stuff was hidden by the underseal and by plate welded at the jacking points, on top of the rust... Good thing I got a welder last year. Less and less happy of the price I paid tho. Still alright given the rare-ish expensive parts it has and given the pricing on manual 325i's in my country, but not a steal of a deal like it used to be.

@@m3nameisjosh464 Yeah that's my theory as well, with the only exception if your car comes from a place without rust issue, like an arizona car or spain for europeans or something like that, dry place, no winter, low probability of rust. Otherwise it's probably not as rust free as people say. I should've known, my car is from my country, Belgium, where it rains half the year, we have snow, we have salt, and the car has got quite a few km, no way it actually avoided rust. And yeah sometimes it's better to just live with it, that's how my e46 is, it's genuinely rather rust free but has a few bubbles in the arches, I couldn't care less, this car will only last me a few more years and then will be worth nothing (it's a 2.0 diesel, nothing special here, bottom of the barrel, people don't want them, incredible daily tho) so I just let it be. But that's not how I see the e36, I'm in it for the long run, it was my dream car for years, and here a manual 325i coupe is worth dough (10k € for clean one, base model, I paid little above half that for a car with full m pack, vaders, lsd, lowering springs, exhaust and few other goodies that would add up to lots of money so I didn't do too bad despite the work needed), I wouldn't be able to live knowing rust is eating my pride and joy away, I'm an anxious guy like that.

Jack it up by frame rails or subframes. Stands go on rails. I do this even on non rusty cars. As far as repair you need to cut out everything and weld in new rockers. Extensive work, I would never do it
