    Hi James, great video and of course all my respect for the hard job you have done. I am in the process of buying it, but not sure after your video… Issues with this engines cost extra money although they seem hard as a rock. I am short of of money but found one at 9000€ and 230000km here so let’s see if I finally buy it. Cheers from Spain.

    Thanks. Yeah its still running perfectly. I forgot to say in the video that the reason it broke in the first place was because who ever previously replaced the cam chains put the Idler sprocket on the wrong way round. So it prematurely wore the new chains out. Very nice car to drive. And a nice amount of power 👍🏻 Hope this helps your decision. Cheers

    Awesome video mate. Thanks so much for putting the time into making it. Very beneficial. With 315,000 kms on the clock, mine has noisy lifters, oil leak from the rear, and noisy chains. This video really helped me understand how theyre put together. Like you im a bit of a "backyard mechanic", so these videos are super helpful. I think i might try to take the engine out from the top though. From what you saw, how difficult do you think it would be to get out from a wiring / gearbox point of view? Also - did you use a workshop manual or something similar?. I assume youd need to understand torque settings etc. If so - would you mind poitning me in the direction of where to get it? Cheers.

Torque settings wise just had a look on my friends auto data for the important ones most of them I just torqued in my head 🤣🤣. Hope it all goes well. Forgot to say wiring wise. Best to leave engine loom on until you have it out of the car. There are 2 ecu's ither side of the scuttle panel. Take wipers off and panel. You have to cut the security plate off the one ecu to get connector off or try and remover shear bolts if you can. Cheers

    Hi thanks for watching. Hopefully it can be some help along the way. The engine out part wasn't actually to bad. Abit more difficult doing it on the floor. But probably 3-4 hours to get it all out. Everything is very heavy so keep that in mind 🤣. Something to note there are 2 ecu's for me the one on the passenger side had a security tabe over the connector that I had to cut out the way. Other than that it was all straight forward. Yeah definitely worth doing the chains. I might need to drop mine out again soon as one of the turbos is abit smokey. Good luck to you buddy. Shoot me a message if you think I could help in anyway 👍 cheers

    Hi James, out of curiosity, how did you time your camshafts when you put them back in? had you marked them before your removed them? I made a cradle to hold the camshafts to the carrier when I removed them off the head. As long as I kept the gears meshed together I "should" have been able to just bolt the carrier and camshafts back on.. Somehow I have lost my timing.. I fear it may be a trip to the dealership with camshafts and carrier in hand to get them to line it up in their jig and put some reference marks on the gears so I can line these back up when I reinstall.

  • @jamescollett3746

    @jamescollett3746

    Hi. The timing marks for the cam shafts are on the opposite end to the gears. The slots should align with eachother. So that you can put a peace of flat metal across the face of the head and into the slot on the cam shafts if you know what I mean? I just did mine by eye because if your are one tooth out you can see it clearly. Let me know if your still struggling and I will try take some photos of the other engine I have in bits.
