I Bought a BROKEN $100k Mercedes AMG for DIRT Cheap and Fixed It For 200 bucks!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

These Blown V8 Benzes are Killer!! Imagine taking a handbuilt 5.5 liter V8 engine, slapping on a big roots supercharger, and cramming it between the frame-rails of a mid-2000's luxury sedan? That dream was actually a reality in 2004 in the Merceded Benz E55 AMG, which packed almost 500hp of German hot rod horsepower! In this episode, Tony Angelo and the Stay Tuned crew scoop up the cheapest example of this car, throw a few bucks and a few hours of time at it, and transform it into an absolute monster!

    Your engine was heat soaked so the protection disengages the clutch. You need to upgrade the intercooler system. You need to replace the pump and separate the intercooler system from the engine cooling system. Lots of info online on how to do this. You may damage your engine by welding the clutch.

  • @zedwolf5556

    Something else, I might be wrong but I dont think the supercharger ever engages in park or neutral. I have not reached the end of the video yet, you just now welded the pulley. That should annoy the ecu, having boost when no boost is requested. I would suspect your problem is with the inlet air temps. When these motors heat soak from the supercharger they pull out a ton of timing making it feel like your down about 200hp. Replace the intercooler water pump and that will usually fix most of that. Beyond that you can upgrade the intercooler system.

    If Mercedes is anything like BMWs you have to program modules to the car once hooked up to activate/use them. Their way of keeping the average guy from working on them and having to go to a dealer. Thankfully through forums programming software can be had.

  • @TireSlayer55

    @TireSlayer55

    Ай бұрын

    On these era Mercedes some modules are like that, but usually just the ones required to run the car. You'd need a Mercedes Star Diagnostic System (the factory scan tool) running Xentry (the factory diagnostic software) to program modules like that. Also pretty much mandatory for doing any real diag work on these cars. You can get Chinese knockoff SDS/Xentry setups online that work just fine for most needs for around $500-800. Certain things, like programming a new ECU that needs to VIN coded to the car, may require paid access to Mercedes' servers that generally isn't possible or cost effective for a DIY'er to obtain, which is when you would need to visit a dealer or independent Mercedes specialist shop to help you out.

    It's positively hilarious how Americans are excited about European cars and love it. I live in Europe and daily drive a 1977 El Camino with a stock 350, exhaust and few life comfort mods like Edelbrock carb and intake, electric fan. I never bought a European car in my life since I have the same amount of excitement seen here for classic US cars. Nothing can compete with the irregular signature sound of an American V8 due to varying exhaust lengths. European V8s mostly come with even exhaust length structure that make V8s sound like inlines.

    It’s also a known issue that the ECU fries on these things. The vents on top of the hood sit right by the fusebox/ecu, if the seal on the fusebox is bad, it’s inevitable that water will enter. Might be worth checking the pins of the connectors for corrosion.

    Why do fools insist on doing a "cat delete"? They don't hurt performance and you limit yourself on where the car can be sold or, if you own it, where you can move and still get it tagged. And it's going to throw codes every time you drive it.

    With you on the Seafoam, Tony. I put half a bottle in the oil for the last 500 miles before a change, as well as the remainder plus a bottle in the fuel, as WELL as a bottle of Lucas Deep Clean, in the first tank every oil change. I also LOVE the CRC GDI valve cleaner spray stuff for direct-injected stuff. Does it all work? Hell, I don't know, but I've always been kinda mean to my stuff and have yet to have a premature failure of an engine through reasonable human use. Modern engines are pretty amazing for the most part, keep them clean and happy and they'll run a LONG time. I'm a GM LS/Ecotec guy, I suspect about everything else is similar.

    Tony if you want to do a hard reset on these newer cars just unhooking the battery doesn't always work. Next time unhook both positive and negative cables and touch them together or use a jumper to touch them. That discharges any capacitors or whatnots to do a "hard reset"

    There should be a little aluminum rod with threads on one end in the spare tire kit. You thread it into the Hub before you install your wheel and tire. Start two of the lug bolts and then remove the rod and install the remaining three.

    Likely that your intercooler coolant pump is weak/broke. High inlet temps and it will disengage the supercharger clutch to protect the engine. That's why these M113K engines have legendary reliability. Very common issue. You can upgrade the intercooler coolant system to give you more stable inlet temps. Once you've done that, fit a smaller pulley and remap it for 550+bhp

    Wheel bolt solution: I h8 wheel bolts. So, find a bolt with the correct threads. Get something 5" long (or whatever it is in meters) and maybe 1" of thread. The rest of the bolt should be smooth. Now, chop the head off of your new bolt and smooth the end that you just chopped off. Make it pleasantly round and nice. When you go to put a wheel back on, put your new wheel alignment tool in one for the holes in the hub. It needs to be finger tight only. Lift the wheel up and let the wheel hang off of your fresh new hawtness wheel alignment tool device thing. As it hangs there, put in the other 4 bolts, back the tool out (finger tight), and put in that 5th bolt. Feel smug while everyone else bitches about wheel botls.
