Good to hear that you're were a Vauxhall kid. I grew up around Vauxhall's too. You make a very good point about seeing the positives in things. Many people who haven't driven them just regurgitate thing's they hear. There are many positives about them despite them having some flaws. For the money you get a lot of car with a strong motor which can be tuned well for a budget.

Love my arctic bought it 2 years ago as a big project, 63k when i bought it now just shy of 70k, only sees a couple months a year but ive driven it a lot the last year or 2. 2 trips down south from scotland to pvs added a lot of miles, after this summer im just keeping it off the road and buying another vxr either burg or vxracing to run daily. Also bought the lowest miles corsa vxr clubsport ive seen forsale in over a year aswell with just 9800 miles on it now that ive added maybe 40 miles to it. Such great cars people seem to rate them poorly but forget the chassis is practically 22 years old just slightly tweaked here and there in that time, bilstien b14 coilovers and a rear roll bar transform the handling along with great tyres of course

Had a Nurburgring VXR from new in 2008 and kept it for just over 3 years. Spent a decent amount of £££ on it to make it better performance wise, . Stage 3 Courtney Sport remap including intercooler. . CDTI airbox conversion. . Quaife LSD. . Whitline rear anti-roll bar. . 20mm Eibach lowering springs. . Scorpion turbo-back exhaust into the Remus backbox. The car made 302.2bhp & 298.1lbs ft on the dyno which I was over the moon about. They make a cracking noise for a 4pot engine and do go well even from standard. The gearbox problems people speak about are a problem especially if your thinking of increasing the power and torque figures. I had my bearings replaced with upgraded stuff at just 22k miles! Replaced the VXR in 2011 with a 2010(60) Focus RS in blue. Even in bog standard form the Focus is a much better performance car, a lot more thought out and capable. IMO do what I did and get a Collins performance CP420 package with a KMS Thunderstorm exhaust. 420bhp and the car can take it no problem with arguably the best engine sound of any hothatch

I personally think VXRs are really underrated. Too many badge snobs out there dissing them because it's a Vauxhall. If you judge a car by it's brand but not actually experienced the vehicle yourself, then you're not a car enthusiast. I own a Astra J VXR in arden blue full spec but half leather and it's such a joy to drive in. Managed to get it to 164mph with nothing more but an Air tec intake, racing a 17 plate GTi putting 3 bus lengths on him after I hit 100+. Great cars. People also forget that these were developed on the Nurburging, so the handling is up there with the 30k+ Germans and I can confirm this as I keep up with S3s on the track around the twisties.

I agree with not thinking the worst. I recently traded my old diesel 2004 Astra H in for a 2016 Astra K, 3 cylinder 1 litre petrol turbo. Doesn't sound much but she's 5 HP more than my old 4 pot diesel and she picks up a hell of a lot quicker! So much fun with "only" 106HP!

They weren’t actually as quick as the figures would suggest - low end they couldn’t put the power down properly, and top end they died after about 120. I remember back in the day having an EP3 Civic Type R - few breathing mods on it, and raced a fair few VXR’s and they couldn’t live with the Civic, and that was only putting out 219bhp.

I bought a Type R, months later if threw a rod. Soon after, Calvin decided to pick one up. I recently bought an Astra VXR, not too long ago the turbo decided to die and it's sitting dead on my drive. Now Calvin has gone and bought an Astra of his own. This man is mocking me.

I had a astra vxr for nearly 3 years and I loved it, when I passed my test I had a 1.4 corsa exclusiv and the astra was a "dream car". When I eventually bought one it didn't disappoint and the had very few issues with it as I bought a well looked after one

Love VXR's. Had a Corsa E VXR last year which was a stage 1.5 with 240bhp. Bought it March 19, had 2000 miles of fun, about to get an hybrid turbo fitted to take it around 300bhp and piston 4 went! (Standard on these) instead of paying the 4k to have it built the garage i bought it from took it and gave me the money back which was too good to turn down. VXR's generally look good and are good to drive but they just don't have the build quality or reliability of the German cars. If Vauxhall sorted that out then way more people would have them
