I Bought a 700$ Vintage Snowmobile MYSTERY ENGINE!!!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The title sorta says it all...
SPOILER ALERT! Keep reading if you want to know what the engine is!!!
I ended up buying a complete Rotax 245 RV motor off a complete stranger from another country ONLINE... It's the engine from a 1976 Skidoo Tnt RV 250. I was quite excited to get my hand on a complete 250 engine because they are relatively hard to find. Upon first inspection the vintage Rotax appeared to be complete with dual Mikuni carbs, Polar fire (Bosch) CDI ignition, wiring harness, belt, clutch and recoil.
The rare 245cc twin cylinder free air engine appears to be in quite good condition, except for the fact that the rotary valve was jamming at half revolution. Removing the cover solved the issue and further repair will be require. The pistons looked new, so a complete overhaul will not be likely, but a teardown, cleaning and gasket replacement will be next for this Rotax. The crank seals will also be replaced.
If you enjoy old vintage race sleds, dIY projects, mechanics, repairs and working on old junk, you have come to the right place. I hope you enjoy this video!

great to see you posting again Matt. A friend of mine was always showing up in the neighborhood with the newest hottest Ski Doo's one was a 340 R/V CC I think that meant 340 rotary valve Cross Country. Man, that thing was fast then his dad bought the 9500 Blizard now that was unreal.. JeffinMaine

I think all the RV CC's were liquid cooled sleds. The 77 was the most powerful, then in 1978 (or 79) they added a HP limit in the CC class and the 340 in those sleds was a tuned down version of the trail sleds... At least that is what I remember someone telling me a while ago. Thanks for watching!!!!

I love my arctic cats I like older ski doo but then older ski doo engines always had an issue the Moto ski I had with was part of bombardiar it was like the racing style engine daul carbs an pipes but never could get her to run an evrything was good . Ended up scraping that sled . Also had a 377 that thing was fast but never ran good for few rides it was always haas issues so I got into arctic cats them older Kawasaki 340 440 which were in older arctic cats now those ran great an easy to keep running then they switched to Suzuki engines an those were very reliable had few jag 340s and 440. Cheetah s and zr modles. I really loved my vintage jag 340 that had the air cooled hood style an had a Suzuki air cooled 500cc engine in her . Not fan cooled but air cooled were the top end of the engine stuck out the hood so air can flow threw the fins . An that thing would do 100mph easy an that’s fast for a vintage sled it would keep up with the newer zr modles till about 70mph then the zr would pull becouse they had bigger size engines but for a lil jag 340 with the 500 engine made a great drag sled or oval track

@@mattsws The 1975 was the oval racer with a 2 gallon gas tank.. orange nose cone and an asymmetrical head light. Doesn't sound like you have the '75s I'm referring to the hoods not the chassis.

@@jeffreyhagelin3672 Yeah I have two of those. One is complete in pretty good shape with original small tank, engine and cleated track, the other is missing the motor, so this motor will be going into that one. They are one of my favourite sleds!
