I think I would keep Midas. He has less rust and the case can be fixed, vs Marigold's case which has issue with the rotting fabric. Plus there is just something more satisfying about getting a typewriter for $5.00 and actually have it work well, plus very little damage to the outside of the machine. My first typewriter was a 1955 Underwood Leader and it was also $5.00 at a local reuse store. It has special meaning, since she was our first, but also because of the price!

"Price of an education", classic. For that C key if bending hasn't worked, you could try a very fine metal file and smoothing out the part of the slug that goes into the vibrator. Just a tiny bit can really help. I'd take one off your hands, but shipping to Sydney... yeah, nah.

I can't tell you which one to keep and which to sell. But as one who grew up with typewriters, I really enjoyed this video. That, plus a woman who clearly knows a lot about typewriters = cool. A woman who clearly knows a lot about typewriters and collects them = way cool. A woman who clearly knows a lot about typewriters, collects them and knows how to fix them, too = AWESOME!

Bent case, paracord "handle", but it still has the key for the case? Sweet!

That's interesting how the "we r memory keepers" machine was an option for parts! I can see the dilemma though with the two... I can see you already re-homed Marigold, but was gling to say in a case where you're really having a dilemma like that, if re-homing it to a close friend or family member is an option, that's something to consider, for the sake of still being able to see it or have access to it from time to time!

I would personally keep the larger font. That would be appealing to me.

I would keep Midas. The white case is far more novel in its design and works better with the grey and gold colours of the machine itself. In addition, having a case that is not rusted internally can make it better for cleaning/ repairing and the typewriter will be less likely to acquire rust, dust, or must issues from a cleaner case. There is some paint wear, though if the machine is generally more functional, I'd keep it. It's rather unfortunate that in the area I'm located, the price of the average manual typewriter is inflated. A drawback to urban life I suppose. As per a previous video of yours, I think it may be beneficial to seek machines in a more rural area.

Neat machines! Which to keep? Tough call. I think I’d keep the one that has less rust and is in better overall condition after whatever cleaning/refurbishing you accomplish. (Also FYI, pica is pronounced “PIE-ca,” rhyming with “pie”.)

Since you answered one of my questions (if you sat in front of either one and had to write a long essay or something that took awhile), what would the experience be like- you seemed to suggest this wouldn't be a good typewriter for that. So my preference is smaller typefaces so you can fit more words per line before returning to the next line. Ultimately, slow returning slugs are not a problem if corrected but greatly reduce your typing speed ability, so does either one return (most) of the slugs more quickly? Lastly, does either one "speak" to you more and feel more like an extension of your arm vs a cold hard machine? They're both BEAUTIFUL typewriters, and WOW, for $5.00 for the new one, I'm jealous! LOL! Maybe try swapping typewriter cases and see if that doesn't help you decide a person feeling towards one or the other-- Ed

If you have a steamer that might cleanup the case more, the browning or dirt. I use cellulose sponges for white items, also hydrogen peroxide can help yellowing on plastics and some faux leather cases like that, can look that up of course. Though half sure you already know all this 😄
