That's a good idea!

I am always amazed at how cheap used cars are in America, whether in good or poor condition. We can't find such bargains in western Europe

This one was exceptionally cheap, but would need to go through an inspection to get a new title before getting back on the road. I admit we have been lucky with a lot of our finds!

@@frenchineer many youtubers find bargains in America, for example Randy from Auto Auction Rebuilds who bought 2 W222 (S550 and S63 AMG) for around 20-25k$ each), whereas in Europe, under 30k$, you mostly find high mileage S350d with low specs. Tyler Hoover bought a Maybach 62 at auction for 45 k$, whereas the average price for a used one in France or Germany is between 60 and 90 k$.

That's true! I don't know what the European market is like, or what the rules are for cars that are totaled. I've watched some UK youtubers like AutoAlex and I'm always surprised at what they can find for low prices, but the UK is a very different market!

@@frenchineer the UK used car market is cheaper than the ones in continental Europe, especially for luxury cars. Some guys specifically import luxury cars from UK for this reason but they are right hand drive...

You are so fortunate to live where you can buy an S Class for $400! ~ they are much more expensive here in Australia.

This was definitely a good find! I'll say they don't sell that low on the private market, but as a salvage vehicle sold at an auction it was possible!

Thanks! I got my first a few years back as a daily driver, and I had a couple good projects in mind for another, which let me to getting the second one this year. This last one was too good to pass up for $400, and because it was totaled, it's a good source of parts. They're also super comfortable and nice to drive!

What years should I buy ? I’m into these cars however I can’t do all the mechanical work myself . I have independent shops I’ve used before. If I paurchse the car I would buy the parts myself as I did with my Lexus. Any suggestions help . However my favorite year is 06 . Any recommendations for best years to buy as well ?

That's kind of a tough question! There is one main separation, pre-facelift and facelift, and AMG/V12 models are kind of their own thing. The changeover was in late 2002 and the basic cosmetic differences are visible in the first video where I bought the $2000 S-Class. If your favorite year is 2006, I see no reason not to get that year! The only thing I would suggest is to avoid a car with ABC suspension (hydropneumatic), which was optional on all cars and standard on the AMG and V12 models. It performs well but can be very expensive to repair, so it's something to be aware of. I hope this helps!
