I Bought A $400 Jeep!! Is It Junk??
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Saw this 2008 jeep compass pop up on craigslist only 30 minutes away from me. I knew I had to have it so I loaded up the van and went to get it. I ended up buying it and driving it back home. Is it junk?

I hope there was a recall and it can get fixed because that is a major thing and no way would I try to weld a patch on it and think it was safe enough to drive, or sell. What's currently down there looks like it's made out of graham crackers, and about as strong.

I love your videos. You have such a great passion for fixing cars. My dad did it when he was younger.
I live about 10 minutes down the road from smugglers notch, semis get stuck going through there all the time and they have to close the road. It’s quite the ride. It’s nice to see someone from around here making videos. There’s not too many great youtubers in VT, keep it up!
Great videos.......thousands of miles away from me but love your enthusiasm for a challenge and a profit 👍🏼
Great Deal! I would not recommend buying any CVT car, new or used. No matter who makes em. There all bad.
Another great score!! Yes, those cvt transmissions leave a lot to be desired...Nissan was a big user of them. For the price and putting in a little work, a profit should be easy!!! Thanks for the great video!!!
Another great score hands clapping 👏🏻

I really need to visit Vermont.... it looks stunning ...great video man . I like these real cars as opposed to the fantasy expensive stuff
So many things going on in this video..,it’s a great video, thanks Rural. One thing is everyone thinks they’re the smartest person in the room. The seller “doesn’t know much about it.” How common is that. Seller likely knows exactly how expensive it really is to fix the subframe, etc. or that it only makes sense for a complete do it yourselfer to buy, but even then there’s bargaining room. Scenery was great. Thanks.
Subframe rust on the engine cradle is a big issue on these and the caliber and patriot.
That brings back some memories - my first trip to American I had one as a rental. I learnt how to drive a LHD car (I’m from Australia) in one down 2nd ave in Manhattan and out to Brooklyn. I’m sure there are better places to learn how to drive on the wrong side of the road, but it certainly encouraged fast learning!!!!
Your uncles a good camera man he’s a keeper
Great video!
Owned a 2017 Compass. The mechanic at the dodge dealership told the CVTs were only good in the Compass and not the Patriot. Go figure. Had for three years and never had any issues with it. The only thing I replace was a right rear wheel bearing. Really loved it.

In 2017 this Compass was phased out for the second gen Compass, an entirely different vehicle on the Fiat 500 platform.
That road goes up the mountain. It is the road that people used to smuggle liquor when it was illegal. The road is called the Notch. It is closed on in the winter because plow truck can’t get up it. There are no tractor trailers allowed.
Nice vehicle, you got a great deal!
As a Vermont expat unfortunately living in Florida, and someone who just found your videos. That mountain was Mt Mansfield and the road was Smugglers notch, which in the winter gets closed because, well you drove it, not to safe in snowy/icey conditions. I'm from the Williston/Huntington area.
LOL, you live in VT and don't know the Stowe Mountain Road through Smuggler's Notch? When I lived in VT from '85 to '97, I drove it quite a few times and rode it on my Suzuki also. I recognized it from the video before you mentioned Johnson or Stowe. There is a mountain road that goes almost to the top of the mountain (not the road you were on through 'the notch'), it's not a paved regular road, and it's got more curves and dropoffs.
You should definitely take this on your trip around the county
Funny, here in Romania works exactly the same way with inspections. If you go to the right inspection station, you pass.
Wow nice roads I enjoyed that

At first I was getting impatient to learn what's wrong with this Compass other then it was a cheap hyundai jeep when new. But I respect he was trying to get the views and compliment if buying and selling hooptie cars is his thing, he did pretty good with this car. Be safe and healthy when he takes that road trip cross country later this year.
Hey! A new video, i been waiting.
in one of your next videos, could you explain the inspection thing? we don't have that where I live.
@townhall05446
3 жыл бұрын
I will explain it. You pay someone a fixed amount to check out your car. They generally use the opportunity to charge you for something additional so you can pass... or else they are basically selling inspection stickers without checking a thing. It's a pointless exercise. I lived there 13 years and hated that inspection charade.
Beautiful Vermont ✌🏻
Nice score! 👍 A little bit of TLC and you have some extra cash for the next Craigslist car!
Can't wait for the repair video
Good lad, hope you turn a little profit on the flip. You seem to have proper seasons where you live.
ahhhh notch road, that's the place where the tractor trailers get stuck up there 5-10 times a year even though it's clearly marked not to bring semis lol.. check to see if your subframe has been recalled on that jeep though, friend of mine had a patriot and they replaced it as of a year ago

I had a '86 Merc Grnd. Marq. ,( bought it new) kept it 11 years, then I bought a F150, 4x4, V-8, (from the factory) I wish they still made Mercs.
Other than the CVT it looks like a reasonable daily driver (Hate CVT's!!). Do the front wings (Sorry, Fenders) bolt on? If so a cheap replacement would be the route I'd take.
Btw I own a 2006 wk, had one issue where the oil light flashed and it was a loose oil filter. Don’t know if you’ll ever have that issue but thought it might help one day
I wanted to see more videos of this Jeep
Nice beater!
I have heard those subframes were covered under a Chrysler recall. Would not hurt to check it out.
I love that road. Its called the notch road :) travel through there daily
On these engines watch out for a common problem "going limp" its an issue with the electronic throttle body that'll show on the dash as a red lightning bolt icon. The repair is replacing the whole body but it seems like its running good especially up hill which is good. To test this is mainly is to rev the engines with some quick revs and the symbol would briefly come on. I know it doesn't seem like any issue here but I'd thought I'd share anyway if you were to buy another car with the same engine it's happened to me before and we honestly didn't know what was going on. Good Luck on this thing it seems to be a great buy
I just Baught a 2014 Jeep Compass 2.4 with the Auto (not CVT) with 131k miles. I love it so far I just hope it lasts and is reliable
Good job Sonia
That’s a great deal you did good !
I see a few of these come in at my workplace and most of the people with these usually only have them as cheap transportation. I wouldn’t own one myself because of the CVT
The rear subframe is usually the rust problem. These had even factory extended warranty to replace the rear subframe as it rusted so bad.
Wowser, I only came here for the music, about time we are back on Vermont dirt roads.
I have a 07, over 200,000 miles. No issues other than I rebuilt the suspension. If you change the oil regularly, these last forever actually.
I'm glad you didn't talk him down.
That’s crazy in Wisconsin that would easily sell for $1500 or more as it sits.
Good find 👍 and I always enjoy the scenery in the mountains on drives . We all know Jeep products have went to crap as far as quality and mechanical dependability the last 15 years , all of the V6 and In-line 4 cylinders are garbage , it’s really sad .
If you want the torqueflite transmission, buy the caravan, neon, ptcruiser
We had one for a year and a half. Was a very useful vehicle but very bad rear suspension conception and components... Replaced all the rear bushig and they squeaked again two weeks after repairs were done... but for the rest... powertrain and 4x4 were perfect and it was a manual transmission ! It was a 2010. It was the one year only that had the newer interior (2011 and +) with the old exterior as your !
That was State Route 108, otherwise known as the Notch Road. It's the best motorcycle road in the state, but it's unfortunately often congested with tourists in vans. Every single year (without fail), a tour bus tries to go up it (despite giant signs that say "NO BUSES, NO TRUCKS") and gets stuck. Look up "truck stuck VT RT 108" and you'll see what I mean.
You are a country Boy I love it do you aver work so hard your back hurts

I always love your Stuff . Just a real suggestion on this one . I’m fairly sure you don’t transfer all the titles to yourself first then sell them . But being it has a bad subframe and that looks very bad I would definitely fix it before selling it . If it sells and that frame breaks . The people will go after whoever’s name it was registered too . Lawsuit city . I do cars myself but I stay far away from any frame issues . Luckily that frame came be replaced rather cheap . But around where I live I can get those Jeeps all day for 300-400 bucks
I like the Impala next to it.
Do you end up putting the title of these flip vehicles in your name before selling them? I know depending on the state, it can be costly to move titles just for a quick flip on lower cost vehicles. Just wondering if you have to factor that cost into your vehicles.
