I Bought A $1000 RV! Is It Junk?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This was the same RV used in breaking bad! I bought this 1987 Fleetwood Bounder RV of craigslist for $1000. Let's see what's wrong with it! It has the Chevy 454.

yeah honestly I am looking at an rv that is about a decade older than that one, they are asking the same process but honestly with as much work as it needs I am going to try to get it for 300, I mean just in paperwork alone, it does not have a title, so basically I am going to have to get a vermont registration, and then use that to get a title in my state, so just in that alone I am going to spend at least 350 close to 400 just to get it titled, it also does not have keys but considering its age I could get a key made for super cheap, it also does not run but from what it looks like it should not be super hard to get running as from the looks of it the problems are not the engine itself but pumps and such but it will still be a bit of work, plus the inside is very not good so I will have to pay in total about 2k minimum to get it go decent condition but it will probably be worth it

Looks like you could fix it up and make it livable. FIX THE ROOF!!! Get on top and do a quick inspection. Tarp it if necessary!!! Next, empty all your water storage. Black, grey, and fresh. If that stuff freezes up, it breaks stuff. Find your control panel, open cabinets until you find it. This will give you battery voltage, maybe some circuit breakers, levels for fresh water, grey water, black water, and propane level. See if the gennie runs....make sure you have at least a half-tank of fuel or it won't start. Look for manuals it all drawers and cupboards....quite helpful! And....KZread is your friend! Best wishes!!!!!

When I was in Real Estate school, they said to look for rust under metal railings, metal handles. Basically, because the stuff is boiled, and corrosive, rust happens in unusual places. Sounds like an exhaust leake over a valve tap...but, I'm not live. You ALWAYS impress me...YOU HAVE ACCESSIBLE COMMON SENSE!! The engine, trans, and generator is worth more than you paid for it. I'm a semi truck driver and I like driving big stuff. Cool score. Hope you get it fixed up good. Right off the bat I would suggest headers for your exhaust system. They help that motor breathe better. That suspension was looking kind of weak. Also invest in some centramatic wheel balancers. Too bad it's carbureted. That's really going to suck the fuel down. Do a good job of waterproofing everything on it, fix it up on the inside, looks like a good fun project now. Good luck.

But I think it's a great project and you'll get a lot of use out of it. I would see and want to know what the extent of the wood rot and damages so not to spend too much money. And you might want to winterize the fresh black and grey water tanks so they don't freeze. Great video

Is it me or does the first half of the video smell like stale cigs and mildew?

I think you did well for $1000. The roof's water damage was an issue that will take some effort. I would guess that with another $1500-$2000 and you're labor this could end up being a great rig. Video production is pretty good and I like the content. I'm subscribing!

There’s a huge RV junkyard in East Bernstadt Kentucky. Very helpful and can ship that door. The walls and roof are common lightweight wood

My only advice would be have it checked for mold. If there's black mold you do not want to be in there until it's stripped down to metal studs and rebuilt. Heck, it RUNS so it was for sure worth what you paid for it! You could probably turn it over as is and make at least 1-2k off it!

I know nothing about trailers and bought a 17 footer for $3750. Exploring in it and discovering what works/doesn't is half the fun. I tip my hat to you sir!

This is a good buy. Maybe this is an eyesore for the owner close to donate it. But then he tried if someone will buy it instead. He just want to dispatch it right away. Quite excited how it will become soon. Will watch closely your DIY project. Your new subscriber... 😊😊

Yeah like everyone else has said for something you could live fairly comfertabley in once cleaned abit. Get a couple solar panels from lowes and you could run a space heater.

I like it, it's awesome ! I wouldn't want to have to fix it ! but I like it none the less. And it looks a damn sight better just for a clean. you need to get a tarp over the top though.

I bought a 91 Fleetwood Southwind, which is pretty much a slightly newer version of your Bounder but with a driver's side door and I paid close to $6000. My roof and walls aren't toast though and it has newer applainaces put in by the previous owner. I love these older rigs! Curious about the small square panel on the right rear side...looks like burn marks? Oh, and with all of the tape on your van windows it all does remind me of Walter White's car and lab...lol. Good luck with the resto and seeing if everything works!
