Let's face it. They didn't get rid of the Blades dashboard because they wanted to add functionality, they did it because they couldn't serve adverts on it.

that dashboard shift was Xbox’s first move in changing the concept to a “multimedia” device, it’s really only current day that they’re realizing people are still mostly buying their consoles for the games and the aesthetic that comes with that. sadly my memories of 360 are tainted with all the ads and the bing bar coming late in the life cycle

The adverts were a little banner at the bottom which was just enough to keep users in the know of what games had come out or were on sale. Now there’s ads plastered everywhere.

@@conspiringcolton The ads actually got removed in 2020 iirc with an update that wiped every piece of promotional content on the console. The Metro dashboard is all clean now!

I really hate seeing people parroting this talking point, meanwhile the blades dashboard literally has a category for every function we use these things for nowadays. Things haven't changed that much guys.

Man I loved the old Blades design of the dashboard. My favorite bit, personally, being the "Open Tray" button on the homepage at 4:18. Something about it is just so late 2000s and stylish. I'd love to see a console with that *super temporary* Blue version of the Xbox Guide they were using for a bit there. Around 2007/2008 I believe, since Halo 3 was still all the rage.

The Xbox 360/PS3 Era were the best times for gaming imo. Games had a lot more passion put into them it felt like.

I feel like both PS2/Xbox & PS3/360 eras were the best. So much experimentation with games back then and there really was something for everyone

I remember the blades dashboard. I really wish that had been left in as an 'alternate option' selectable from a menu somewhere, tbh. It always felt faster to navigate for me, personally.

If PS3 emulation can get as good as it has, hopefully 360 emulation will evolve to an extent where we can all re-enjoy the Blades dash!

Ps3 emulator still sucks. Most games are unplayable. Ps2 emulator 90 plus is finishable games

I still can't believe Sonic 06 was played on the first one

As happy as I am with the last dashboard they released for the 360, I can't deny that the Blades dashboard is SO good! I question why Sony gave the PS3 PlayStation Store that slow clunky redesign when the 2008 design was so good!

I still remember navigating blades to party chat and send messages in MW2. The time I'll never get back, and I'm so glad my childhood was S tier gaming

That never happened. They got rid of the blades dashboard in 2008 an entire year before MW2 released.

Now you have the Xbox 1080 in background. Can't wait to see the Xbox 1440!

7:47 - From my guess, this console was likely manufactured on this dash, due to the fact that the console looks basically new This is also a really nice find considering the fact that 2858 is the third retail Blades release, the first being 1888 and the second being 2241.

takes me back. I never needed the memory unit I had the xbox 360 "elite". I did have to send it in 4 times from red rings until they finally just stopped "repairing it" . Good times.

When my Jasper 360 RRODed in 2016, my Mom just declared "We'll get you an Xbox One", ignorant that it isn't a 100% 360 replacement! I got an Xbox 360 E shortly into 2017. My Mom doesn't get classic tech the way I do.

@@adultmoshifan87 Sure that "one" would play most of your 360 games, but the interface and the whole experience would be lost to time. I love the xbox 360 so much just for that. It was a hell of a time for gaming. I'm glad you were able to get another!

The first 360 I got was the red RE5 one with the Jasper. I waited for all the red ring BS to be done with and I really wanted to play RE5 (which was included). I only wish it had some type of RE graphics or face plate, but the red looks cool.

There was a period where syncing gamertags to your friends' consoles for stuff like local Halo or Gears co-op runs was an absolute slog and you had to sync everytime, so we ended up investing in those memory cards to store our gamertags on, which removed the need to sync our data and just allowed us to sign in instantly. Much quicker process nowadays. I recall waiting about 20 minutes once for a gamertag to sync back then.

The blades was the best dashboard imo

I had 2 of those memory cards, they were great for bringing your save games to a friends house. I think a lot of people just used flash drives because they were bigger capacity and cheaper; but my grandma bought me a 2 pack of those memory cards for Christmas.

I was 11 years old the first time I tried the 360. I am 27 now. The blades dashboard is a heavy dose of nostalgia for me. Thanks for the video, this is amazing

I'll take the blades over any other Xbox UI, every time. Regular Xbox has too much personality, nothing after NXE has enough. As it happens, I only ever used the blades UI on a CRT. By the time I got my first HDTV set in 2008, NXE was already out and I was rocking the Battlestar Galactica theme. I had a memory card, used it to bring my profile with me to friends' houses, it was nominally easier than redownloading it.

the 360 UI is so much better then the new xbox UI. i still haven’t adapted! the 360 minutes were so simple and easy to fine and navigate - when i got my first xbox360 it had the dark/ navy blue menus!

My 360 Slim died and through tough labor it still didn't revive. I miss playing my collection

Watching on series X, i guess microsoft agreed that the blades sliding in when the xbox button is pressed IS, in fact, cool.

I used a memory card along with my hard drive from 2005 to about 2008 to double my saves. This was before cloud saving, and I was always nervous about only having my saves on the hard drive, in case it ever crapped.

Super cool stuff! I was thinking of trying out the xbox 360 and getting one myself.. certainly going to sometime now that I’ve seen all the amazing stuff it can do!

bruh just the SIGHT of that stock 360 headset brought back so many core memories. and the in box xbox was manufactured on my birthday!!

17:08 the thing is that most of those games are trial versions/demos (hence the half controller symbol), meaning you won't see any proof of them playing it since you can't unlock achievements in trials

1:21 I would have been screwed if I didn’t send in that form with a check b/c I bought my system on EBay b/c of how low supply the 360 was in for almost a full year after release. I went through 5 OG systems during the XBox 360 lifetime, not paying at all for systems 2-4. OG system 5 was a new arcade purchased in fall 2009 as my extended warranty was ending. It lasted until 2012 when it was traded in for a Slim 360, which I have to this day.

My first ever console was the mlg edition 360, and I got it for my like 4th birthday… it’s still in my room, and works perfectly. I remember spending countless hours with my grandparents playing disney infinity 3.0 years ago… I am now 15… It is cool to have three generations of consoles in my room… (Xbox 360, Xbox 1, PS4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch) I was lucky to have the newer console variant that bypassed the red ring of death era…

It's kind of interesting how far behind the Xbox 360 felt when compared to the PlayStation 3 in 2006. The 360 had no HDMI, used DVDs for games, you couldn't watch Blu-Rays or HD-DVDs, it had slots for memory cards, and I am pretty sure they sold consoles without hard drives included. The 360 was significantly cheaper than the PS3, though.

It did have HDMI but only the “elite” one at launch

Demos were lit. I didn't have internet back then so I would go to my friends house w my Xbox and download a bunch of demos

Ah, seeing the black and red consoles brung me back.. I owned an elite console, the black one, which was stolen in a move when i was younger. Then someone in the same complex that we moved to gave me his old Resident Evil xbox, to which the disc reader kept giving out, but it hard carried me through the rougher times of my childhood. Wish I could relive those countless hours of never getting bored of MW2.

I just noticed the first console you tested was on the VERY FIRST blades dashboard because the marketplace tab/blade wasn’t showing up unless if it just doesn’t show up when you aren’t signed in but i don’t know

My second gen xbox 360 had blades. It still works and the usb door never broke but one of the memory cand doors did. The spring just kind of fell out at one point. Of course i connected it to the internet so it doesnt jave the blades.

Those memory cards were used in the early days. It was the only way to transfer your gamer profile and earn achievements when visiting someone offline.

Ah, so *that's* what they were. I have a vague memory of unboxing mine, and never using it. Completely forgot they even existed!

I used to play a bunch of Minecraft and black ops on my 360 back when i was little. 😅 It was very fun

Everyone hooks an Xbox 360 up to a flat screen nowadays but I know how it was back then. Your mom got you a tube tv on clearance and you liked it!

I remember the blades dashboard. However i remember putting in chronicles of riddick when the update replacing the blades dashboard came out. Somehow the update was on the disc

It's so weird that the first one has a memory card with it . I've never seen one in person .

They were around a lot at launch. You could take those memory cards and take ‘em to like GameStop 360 kiosk where you can download demos, gamer pics etc. thought it was a cool idea. I got my demo of geometry wars that way

Man, the blade dashboard reminds me of playing Rainbow Six Vegas for hours on end every weekend back then

The blades dashboard was great. Faster than the NXE, and considerably faster than the Metro UI. The later UIs put too much priority on features like avatars or adverts, which are just unnecessary bloat.

Wow that's some cool xboxs. I didn't know Goodwill sold stuff like this.

I used to play Minecraft with my brother and sometimes our grandpa came visit abd gave even sweets now my brother has his own family and our grandpa is past away. I miss the old times 2000-2012

I have very vivid memories of playing the outfit while listening to “crazy” by ceelo green 😂😂 idk why but I often played that song while playing that game. I loved playing the old gta games on Xbox because there was a radio station that would play your music on console.

I had that same XBOX, GameCube, USB to PS2 adapter and it goes hard.

At 4:34, you can see that the dashboard is pretty old because there is no 'Marketplace' option.

5:13 that early blades dashboard without the marketplace is the rarest Xbox 360 dashboard alongside the OG XBOX dashboard without Xbox Live. This also implies that whoever owned this console hasn't played it since 2006. I hope whoever won this console hasn't updated the EXTREMELY RARE dashboard.

Honestly they should have made a way for you to use the old dashboards on any version because it wouldn't really have made a difference they could have had them be like themes

I used my memory card all the time. It was much quicker to take my gamertag over on the card than download it if i was going to my friend's house to play Halo or Gears.

I still have all my 360s over the years including my og elite from 2008 , and it has issues with the disk opening and gets stuck I have found you have to use your fist and hit it and it will open lol I’ve been doing this to this consel since 2014 and it still works like a charm plu my toe halo edition 360s and one white one sadly red ring of death 😂

I still have my old 360s(Arcade, Elite and a Slim) somewhere but I have only cleaned the Elite one(pretty sure it's a Jasper V2 because that one has never had rrod even with how dirty it was)but years ago when the disc drive started acting weird... I really need to look for them because there are a few games not on the backwards compatibility list I'd like to play again since I highly doubt they'll ever be available for BC on Series 😮‍💨
