I was thinking about this the other day, I am a first year medical student in Kurdistan, Iraq and I am preparing for my finals. About 30-40 % of the material we cover is useless for a Doctor as you mentioned, There is going to people who specialise in these fields already why do I have to learn it too? It‘s not like there is 0 benefit from it but if you compare how much you need to study vs how much you are going to be applying then it‘s not worth the hairloss.

Well said!!! 🫶🏾❤️ This vid deserves so much… I think many ppl re getting lost when they re studying, even myself. I’m a Med Lab student, I struggle a lot on my grades. Few years ago testing anxiety has been developed on me, it’s even harder for me to get good grades. But I could rmb things or ans questions very well when my prof trying to test me during lectures or labs. This helps me to build up confidence, and allows me to rethink the actual meaning of getting good grades. My prof used to tell me that: Getting an A grade on my subject doesn’t mean that you can save patients in the future. Maybe the student who got C grade is the one who could ans the critical call from ward.

Thank you so much! That was my case as well, we know the material but we struggle with the test anxiety and our scores suffer as a result, but if you think of it, when we see patients we won't be under said pressures, so tests are not a reliable measure of expertise

I half agree and half don’t As your GPA is something you can’t ignore when applying after graduation, so it is important to pay attention more to what is important but your score is must be considered as well

that's why the best thing to do is to change the way medicine is taught also, GPA isn't looked at as much anymore, they also consider how much research and volunteering you took part in.
