The Genshin Impact TCG is getting some hype... but I truly believe it will fall off rapidly. Call me a hater, but I think it is an unfun and unbalanced mess. I am pretty salty because it feels like so much time was spent on a minigame that some off us have zero interest in.

    Hi Mtashed as a fellow TCG player I can understand where you are coming from though I must add just like with the base game with the addition of new cards and characters and hopefully balance changes or reworks the game might be flourishing for a while. Basically I think its way too early to tell I recently quit hearthstone not because of this but because of the hidden % chance of certain mechanic that makes the game feel very non transparent to me... and me not knowing this information is critical in decision making and hens the outcome of a match (*example* tony two tusks in Hearthstone BG - the amount of times he will die before his effect triggers makes it clear to me that there are hidden metric that I as a player have no detailed knowledge of and me as a player not knowing this information impact my decision making negatively so I no longer found the gameplay enjoyable because in atleast some ways critical information about the game is hidden from me on purpose)

    I think this is just yet another case of genshin-ism. It's not designed to be tryharded, mastered, or even get skilled at. It's designed to log onto and play 1-2 games a week. It's made so that even if you play badly, just by getting lucky you can win a match, which makes it more appealing to a lot of more casual players because they get that dopamine hit of "Oh I won!" Without understanding what really happened. It's mindless fun, which is okay to enjoy, but it leaves players like us really unsatisfied

It constantly feels like Hoyo doesn't think their players have comprehension capabilities beyond those of a 3 year old. All while having wide doors open to spend thousands of $$$ on the game. It just doesn't fit or make any sense. One of the first things my boyfriend noticed watching me play the card game for the first time was that there are a lot of animations and phases that take up "too much time", like having to roll the dice every round and all the texts that appear like "Select your first character", "You attack first: round 1", "roll phase", "action phase", "your turn". They seem pretty fast at first but then when you play a lot of it it sorta just gets annoying.... I find myself trying to drag my cards and do things before the game lets me do anything. There should at least be some setting that lets me skip all this (now) useless text since I already know everything, or at least make it somewhat less obstructive and obstrusive. Another thing that happened a lot is that whenever he'd ask what i just did I'd just keep saying things like (these examples are much more simplified than my actual explanation btw): "this card gives me more dice if I do x", "this one swaps 2 dice with elements with 2 omni dice", "this one gives me more dice", "this one let's me use no dice to swap", and at some point he just laughed and said "so like if you could have 1 extra dice at the start you'd roll them in one round?" and I just had to laugh too, it feels like any extra dice makes too much difference. Just feels a bit annoying how everything depends so much on the dice, it feels like a loss-loss situation, I either use all my dice in cards that will give me more dice, and lose a lot of time not attacking as much and doing this only so i can have more dice, then I get rolled, or I use my dice to use skills and bursts and equip weapons and whatnot and then I have no dice to use the support cards anymore. I personally found hard to find that sweet spot of having fun using lots of dice but also using my abilities a bit more, without one or the other it just feels a bit annoying and repetitive. That's why I stopped trying to play PvP and now I only play against the hardest bots :(

  • @Azel49

    @Azel49

    Жыл бұрын

    You're right. Everything is played around the dice rolls. If you take this into account the best team builds will be teams with 3 elements rather 2, because it gives you a better probability of getting dice you can use. The cards you draw are all strategic, the ones that turn dice into omni and switch characters are really strong, and no card you use damages the opponent directly, its all base on your characters. The major rng factor is really set to two things, the dice you roll and the cards you draw. The best way to play this game is just understanding resource management and if you can take on the hardest bots then you should be already a natural. I think things could improve, but for me I understand what they were trying to do with this game, its a good distraction, but not something I will care about long term.

    I haven't touched the TCG since getting the initial 60 primos. I have no interest in card games, I barely have enough energy with playing the game. I am happy for the people who enjoy card games though, and the animations look sick. It's just sad that one of the main, great things about Genshin, the combat aspect or using your characters and team has not been receiving much progress in the game's 2 years. My poor characters who were tediously built, farmed, and ascended are sitting in bench waiting for difficult content.

  • @daddybondrewd
    @daddybondrewd Жыл бұрын

    Let me start this by saying I'm one of those genetic freaks that just loves card games lol, I started playing magic nearly 20 years ago and haven't ever really been bored with the TCG genre as a result. So I may be a little biased in favor of the genshin TCG. That said I've been loving it so far, not everyone is going to enjoy it as much as I have been, sad but fair. The dice mechanic, while maybe not the most fine tuned mana system, is very refreshing and brings a new element of strategy to the game. The game isn't trying to be hearthstone or magic where you slowly ramp up your mana and playing your cool cards towards turns 4-5. The cards are the supporting cast of the TCG currently, not the driving force, as weird as that may seem. The closest comp off the top of my head would be somewhere between the Pokemon TCG and the Pokemon video games. You brought up that every deck is running the same cards, but that's not because of the dice system like you claimed, it's because there's simply not enough cards available to the player. But even with more cards, isn't that a problem every card game faces? I'll speak to magic as it's the game I'm most familiar with. In magic roughly 20-25 cards of an average 60 card deck will be land cards. You'll almost always run 4-5 removal cards, half a dozen to a dozen ramp cards depending on archetype, at least one or two mass removal spells if you can find the space, etc. After all that you're really only left with 20-40% of your deck space to actually be creative and run interesting cards. Currently the problem isn't that the dice are too rng dependant imo, it's that the only cards worth your time are the super aggro ones that mitigate the dice risk since everything else is too clunky or niche to run. I'd happily sacrifice one of both paimon cards for some better food options, give us spell cards that summon minions rather than just character abilities, field spells that apply elements or even force reactions on both teams, there's so many things they could do and I cope they someday will. For streamers resetting games to get the perfect dice to pull off their crazy 60+ damage diluc combos, that's just clickbait anyway. It's like bad exodia, Mona+Diluc+Bennett The only big issue I have with the game itself (obviously no ranked system and really the lack of pvp rewards in general are disappointing), is that pretty much every card needs white dice. If they'd switch like 80% of cards from needing 2-3 of the same type of dice to just random ones the game would feel so much smoother and take much less difficult resource management.

    Interesting points, even if I partly disagree. I’ve never played a TCG, never had any interest in them. Wasn’t very hyped about it before. But I was actually surprised how fun it is. I’ve done more TCG than farming the past week. For a TCG noob it’s easy to pick up because you know the character, elements and reactions from the real game already. I like the dice. It adds enough randomness to the game so it’s not just about grinding the absolute best deck. Part of strategy is to plan ways of dealing with the bad dice rolls. I understand how this could annoy someone. Maybe compare it to really in real game: some very invested meta-math player versus someone who thinks about reactions but plays with the character they like even if not optimal. Longevity issue is real. It’s true that I might not keep playing it if there are no more rewards. In the future I can see TCG being just one part of the game. Like teapot. Or doing weekly bosses or bounties or the abyss run. Adding four duel challenges into the weekly BP is going to keep it as a one more aspect of Genshin. Some enjoy it more, some less, but it’s ads variety and gives more things to do in game.

    Speaking as someone who both plays fairly casual and loves table top games, I freaking love it. It reminds me a bit of Marvel Champions, which is one of my favorite card games, but absolutely the most annoying thing is the dice. I have Ganyu, who can do great damage, but so far the dice haven't given me much cryo so I've had to use other characters more. Although i don't think it's as unreasonable as you seem to - plenty of games rely half on luck and half on skill, fx; Marvel Champions also has an "energy system" where you "pay" to use you skills, however, you very RARELY won't have ANYTHING to do, AND you always have the option to not take damage a round and heal - this just has other consequences, but regardless, you don't feel as stressed about dying when your hand is unlucky. So yes, I agree that the limit of the energy system is a big issue, but I honestly think it's really fun and I've been spending all my playtime these days on this 😂 Im not a very strategic player, the amount of time I've spent studying MC to get good and get familiar with my chosen character is solely because I have a friend group to play with regularly. I don't want to think that deeply when playing Genshin, so this is sort of the best of both worlds for me. I hope they update it a bit, but i do honestly enjoy it a lot.

    If you find yourself with nothing to do in TCG, you are relying way too much on your Elemental Skill. They are rather greedy for usually only doing 1 damage more (and then another 2 when you get your reaction off). Hell, if you're staying on that character to do your burst, you're probably best off just using 2 NA's and then your burst in the next turn, since that would have applied the element you will react off later anyways (in which case, Skill+NA is just 1 more damage and that rarely is the difference between a kill or not)

    I disagree. Cards for dice manipulation still require the player to think when to use them and how to make a good combo with characters. There is a risk/reward opportunities, the need for sacrifice sometimes and already insanely strong decks. It's just that you won't see it right away in PvE against easy NPCs. Almost any card game is a kind of gambling with RNG, so the dice system is just another form of it that you don't like. It seems obvious to me that the game is made as a fun mini-game like Gwent in The Witcher 3. It's just like other things in Genshin really, it's not about hardcore 24/7 tournament sweat, but there is still room for messing around with different decks and have fun.

    I played magic cards in the 90's to early 00's. I understand what you are saying mtashed, but I think you are looking at spells as a seperate card. The spells here are mostly an ability of the character. Keqing reminds me of an instant spell with buyback. The game really is about when to swap, when to use a skill and managing resources. Im used to blue black control deck, so maybe its just me, With magic having 60 cards, this one is smaller. Im used to making deck that grants you the bigger possibility to get certain cards and be able to control the game. I dont think this is a card game where you treat your characters as "Summons" or the main attack. This more of a set creature with set instant and sorcery cards based on character to use. SO all you really are drawing are enchanments and spells that give you control. several times i lost in this game was because I made a bad timing not because of resources. this isnt one of those things where you have that creature and you attack. I felt TCG feels so close to Magic the gathering control deck. other than that, I do agree with you. The bigger problem is less option in cards. But its understandable. Think of it this way, if you love TCG cards that are meant to spam a creature, or have that one solid creature which you pump. you wont enjoy genshin TCG. But if youre into timing, playing with probability of optimizing deck, timing attacks, and see creatures as nothing but a card that use for combo to have certain effects to deal damage, then you might like this one. thats the reason everyone has fix damage. the difference is the skills of those cards. Now you are right about rewards. It needs that or it needs a rank match where there is a leaderboard.

    He decided he didn't like the game before it came out. Strategy and deck building do matter and every person playing it and making content on it spends a lot of time showing how that matters and how deep the game actually is. Can RNG burn someone, yes, but that is true of poker, black jack, magic the gathering, uno, and almost every other card game that exists or has ever existed. If a poker noob gets four of a kind they will probably win, but you can't really depend on that kind of luck to get you through a tournament. MTashed played it for 5 minutes and is assuming all sorts of things on a game he didn't really try because he likes to complain about his literal work from home million dollar job for a living. I've been playing Invokation a lot for the last couple of days (mostly in coop) and most of the times when I lost, I could point to a certain moment where I made a bad judgment call (didn't swap when I should have, incorrectly predicted the other person's intentions, didn't use a card I had in my deck when it would have been good to do it, etc). Throughout most of my games I didn't feel like the dice influenced my results too much - I can recall maybe two or three games where I truly didn't stand a chance because of how unlucky I was, but that does seem pretty typical for most card games. Absolutely spot on about everything. I'm only rank 3 (or 4?) and it didn't take long for every match to be the same. Pick a character, find all the dice were of a different element, burn a turn changing, burn all my cards to try and do some damage. Wash, rinse, repeat. Every match is just a DPS race which only works if you have the dice to keep up. I feel like a very simple change to the game could fix it too. Let us keep the leftover dice between rounds. If I have more dice then I have more options and I won't feel the constant need to do as much damage as possible each round because I have the dice to spend on setting up defenses and can make the most out of a bad roll. But as MTashed alluded to, Hoyoverse have a consistent history of doing everything to a level of "close enough is good enough" because they chase too many rabbits at once. If they focussed on polishing something to perfection instead they wouldn't need to bribe everyone to play their game.

    It's not complex at all. The game is made to where anybody can hop in and quickly understand how the game works. It doesn't take a genius to understand the rules. It's the fact that the game comes down to complete and utter luck. It comes down to whether you can get good dice rolls every round. I would say that the luck to skill ratio here is like 10:2. It just came out and it already needs a gigantic revamp

There's a decent amount of cards right now that helps you to reroll the dice or even have garenteed elemental dice for your current active character. I think a good way of fixing it a little would be make the dice universal but have elemental favorability, as in any character can use any dice to perform their attacks but when all the dice are the same as the attacking character, they gain a bonus, for example: this skill deals more dmg, you get 1+ more energy (those points required for a character to use their elemental burst), this character would heal themselves or teammates, draw +1 card. Also, as mtashed suggested, giving us stronger spells to make it more worthwhile to use rather than dumping them to change the dice's element.

    I'm having fun with the tcg so far, rocking co-op opponents with Rhodea Lawachurl and Noelle, and I've played a ton of Hearthstone in a while back so I know issues card games have. Flaws that I can see with the tcg is that general cards like Paimon will be slotted into everyone's decks until the end of time because it's too general and good. Hearthstone has a class system so there are deck variety, but for the tcg, because there isn't a class system, my deck is almost 60%~70% the exact same as my opponent. Hoyo could release more cards to improve card diversity, however due to the limiting format and mana system, I think it'll be hard to innovate any kind of expansion pack. With Pokémon tcg, there are deck varieties because each deck consists of two to three energy types, and your opponent might have different type matchups too. Yu-Gi-Oh have monster attributes and monster families to specialize in, and cards that are very good in one deck may not synergize with other decks. With genshin tcg, you can't specialize or experiment with niche deck types. Overall, I think the genshin card game is meant to be a casual rock paper scissors card game.

My poorly built characters can one shot everything in the overworld, which means I can't use them cuz the enemies die while I am setting up before I even use the intended character's skill or burst to check out the number. As a veteran tcg player with some competitive experience and a few tournaments under my bet I think mtashed is right. The game is cute but it’s nothing more than a mini game right now. There’s not enough depth to make it competitive even if you wanted to. Anyone who has played MTG, especially the old school Richard Garfield mtg, knows that a great competitive card game comes out of an environment where the rng is extremely bridled and controlled. Honestly it’s clear that the guy is harshly burned on genshin and I don’t feel the same since I barely get to play 30 to 60 minutes a day, I’m still behind on so much stuff, but the guy’s got a point. A lot of the content in genshin is meant to be played once or twice to claim the gems and there’s not much replay value to anything beside the spiral abyss, the daily commissions, and maybe the bounties. And giving mtashed or any other creator that says this a load of crap because they speak their mind is literally shooting yourself in the foot. He’s right. @@winghong3 you are correct in the assumption that in magic, mana is a big part of deckbuilding. but by having the energy system being part of the cards in your deck, mtg actually adds a lot of diversity to it, while keeping the rng element in a tight grip. It’s a long story and I don’t want to bore you but basically there are many ways to produce “energy” in mtg, or as we generally call it, mana. Not every card that produces mana is a land and there’s a lot of “engines” that are able to dish out infinite mana or very fast and precise mana ramps to speed up your game in the first 1 to 4 turns. Also, when you place a mana source on the field, like a land, the type or types of mana that land/artifact/enchantment/creature produces will always be the same, or at least will always follow specific rules, allowing you to make precise calculations regarding your mana pool. A set of 8 dices that you roll every round is a lot more unstable and uncontrollable as a form of energy generation. Even heartstone, one of the games that tried to cut the energy generation and management to the bare minimum, decided to go for a method where the energy is extremely controlled, and easy for the player to calculate in advance. I could go more in depth and we could also look at other card games such as Pokémon to analyse this concept further, but I don’t want to bore you or sound pedantic

    I like the idea of the dice, but adding more options to mitigate bad rolls is good. Maybe the guarantees you get from things like artifacts / locations are built into the system. Some ideas: -Before rerolling, you are automatically given 1 Elemental die matching each one matching the element of your 3 characters. When a character is knocked out, it gives you 1 of the current active character's element in the place of the knocked out character's element. (If this overkill when combined with mulligan (which it probably would be in mono-element decks), maybe just make 1 guarantee matching active character, then +1 for each knocked out character, OR only apply to one element at a time not counting the knocked out rule) -On the very first round, choose your character AFTER you roll. Pretty indefensible it isn't already like this. -Elemental Tuning (sacrificing a card to convert energy) applies to up to two energy at the time (or maybe just on the first time you use it during a round, if that's too strong.) Some cards may need their effects changed to make them viable. Then again, there are cards in the game which are bad without considering that (how many people are running 3-cost artifacts anyway?). Another approach, which is harder to balance by far, is to give die of various elements special benefits, so they don't feel dead when you get them. Like spending an anemo die to switch characters causes it to not take a turn. Seems like this would backfire pretty bad if the benefits weren't weak though (which the example I listed is not).

    Genshin TCG + all of the achievements is exactly like fishing or the housing system in my eyes. If you're one of those endgame players who want to get their hands on every primogem you can, you're gonna want to do the achievements in the game to get those primos, but it's ridiculous that you need to put in so much time for some of the TCG achievements (some of them requiring victorious matches so further increasing playtime if you lose). The game is so slow and boring, it'd be more entertaining to watch paint dry. And there are those people that'll say "you aren't playing the game right" but how can you play the game right if literally 99% of what happens in the game is pure RNG? It's EXACTLY like the gacha system. Some players are unbelievably lucky while others end up scraping the bottom of the barrel and doing all they can to get the character they want. Just like TCG. You roll the dice, barely get any that you need, do a reroll then only get enough to do one attack before ending your turn. Such a shame how that's our endgame

And as a self proclaimed “universal good cardgame player” Ive personally only ever had 1 loss I blamed on RNG out of a hundred or so games, most which were wins. I say this not to brag, but to establish that you can in fact outskill a lot of the issues he’s complaining about and I don’t think its fair to fault the game just because it asks more from you for some hands.

The fact u have to grind to be able to buy new cards or get them from NPC's alot is also a turnoff for me. If they want to make this mode a real succes they need to rebalance it ALOT for future content and thats gonna take time they might not be willing to spend on it. I'm curious to see how it will go.

    I mean the card game still new, it's fair to wait for it to become more complicated. The game is like a second tea pot, Hoyo will definitely update this casually, there are so many other cards that they teased in the trailer, we don't what they do and I do think it's fair to enjoy it.

    I reached player lvl 6 and lost only once against the guy with 2 Maidens in Inazuma and once against a friend. I won every time where I used all my cards to change the dice and lost when I tried to play the cards so I’m probably not gonna play it much anymore. It took all of my playing time too. What I want is combat of pvp with the characters I took so long to build , not cards that took me 3 days to get.

Your commentary, personality, and honesty you fun to watch so I would gladly watch you play other games and I actually really want to see that. People just hope you don't quit Genshin because they had a lot of fun watching you play it and so do I and if you disappear I feel like the community just won't be the same anymore. they should make it optional to download the TCG content, cause for me it will just take up space. I got to level 5, played against some friends, and with friends I will get more into it than NPCs, but im still not driven enough to go out of my way to level up, even WITH primos waiting for me. It's just meh. I have way more fun in windtrace with friends and i could legit play for hours on end without the rewards on there.

    personally I love the dice system but then I'm pretty sure I've never had a game lose because of some bad rolls if there's no energy I need I'll usually have some trash cards I can sacrifice to get the correct energy types but 9 times out of 10 I'll usually have the energy needed to play at least 1 of the cards I want to play, switch characters, and then use at least one of the attacks I want to use about 50% of the time I can play multiple cards and then do multiple attacks without a single card spent to tilt the energy in my favour now, it's entirely possible that I've just gotten lucky, not gotten any particularly bad rolls yet but so far I feel like there's enough of a safety net built into the game itself that a couple of bad rolls really doesn't matter all that much. as for deck homogeny I'd say that's currently just because the game is fairly new and there just aren't that many cards yet (and most people probably don't even have them all yet). a bunch of cards (looking at the weapon and artifact cards) are just sets with some just being straight upgrades over others. once the game has been out for longer, updated a few times, ect, there should be more deck options resulting in more deck variety. now, this might just be an indication that I'm building my decks badly (though I'd expect to be losing if that's really the case) but I find that my decks often differ pretty wildly from the decks that I see the AI bringing to the table. perhaps playing against other players is different but I can just go off of what I know. ultimately my deck is an Oceanid/Fischl deck where the summons just trigger electro charged during all the end turns allowing me to chip damage the enemies to death, I find it super satisfying. some more interesting spell cards would be nice though

  • @Bagdart
    @Bagdart Жыл бұрын

    I get your points. thats why i use a deck wich is not centered about chars rather than centered to generate & convert dice or avoiding using dice: double rosaria double ningguang, all 4 paimon cards, double Jade chamber, double parametric transformer. thats the way to go. i only lost one multiplayer match since release with that.

    If you want a good example of adding a new gamemode and it being super successful and get supported with new characters added you can look at elysian realm in honkai impact. They tested out the mode with on and off events and then added it permanently with streamlined mechanics and a really good story to back it up.

    @@SnakeTGK those games also have truly challenging combat (should you choose higher difficulty) that you spend most of your time gearing and leveling for. Then you can go do the side games. Those games prioritize there combat and story first. Genshin has no difficulty scaling past Max world lvl which becomes trivial once you are geared so you cant challenge yourself at max lvl. Genshin gives you story ever patch but what about combat? Radio silence for a system that should get as much attention as the story. When I log onto Genshin I shouldn’t be looking at the card game to give me more gameplay and enjoyment then the actual core gameplay the game was built around. You said it yourself it’s a side game. People wouldn’t be so critical if it really was just a side game but Mihoyo don’t give you anything to actually fill your time with(aka combat with the characters you pay for) so people are looking at this as if it’s a cornerstone of the game which it’s not it’s a side game.
