    The two things that, based on this video, stand out to me as missing from the "Be a Gym Leader" experience, is 1; trainers coming in with type advantage setups, and 2; gym customization. For the former, what if, for a Ground type gym, recurring trainers like Jeff would slowly incorporate Flying types, Grass types, Water types, etc, as the game went on, and you had to plan around those with your essentially monotype roster. For the latter, I do like management sims, but designing your gym ala Dungeon Keeper or maybe tower defense, setting up puzzles and prepping your gym trainers, seems like a way more compelling part of a gym leader experience than an extremely simplistic city sim.

  • @echris10sen

    @echris10sen

    I like this idea much more. The object would be yo fight as few trainers as possible seeing as you only have a limited amount of health and moves per day. Then every once in a while a mandatory trainer like Jeff comes in to fight with an absolutely stacked team.

    This sounds awesome, I imagine starting with a gym like brock's, but without the gym trainer, then you could slowly recruit gym trainers, give them pokemon to use, and they could generate passive income for you if they manage to defeat incoming trainers. Then you could set different types of traps and puzzles, or add some sort of gimmick (like rotating battles, double battles, etc). There's a lot of potential for this concept

  • @mykeyboardismelting6856

    @mykeyboardismelting6856

    8 ай бұрын

    the dungeon maker + tower defense aspect would actually be awesome. Since you have a limited monotype roster and the trainers don't, the battles would be a lot more one-sided, right? (Assuming trainers actually use pokemon and moves that have an advantage against you) That's where the dungeon maker would come in. Instead of buffing your team by battling the same underpowered pokemon over and over, you could instead design a gym that is meant to wear down the trainers that come in so that they are WEAKER when you battle them. That would make overcoming challenges a LOT more fun! Imagine strategically placing gym trainers with status moves like thunder wave to potentially cripple a challenger's dragon dance sweeper in advance... Though maybe tougher challengers could have healing items that they can use to recover outside of gym trainer fights. And, of course, the challengers need to be much stronger than the gym trainers to make sure they actually reach you. Those are just some ideas I thought up, but the dungeon maker/tower defense simulator would be very fun for this kind of game.

    The start of the game is great, you get to pick a type, choose a starter, get a tour of the area and setup for the story, and receive your signature move. Catching nearby pokemon is great as most gyms use pokemon similar to what you've seen with maybe a rare pokemon not seen before or an evolution of a nearby pokemon. I think they need to focus less on the town-building part and get further into the customization and mechanics of the gym. Possible gym challenge setup based around your type? setting the gym trainers teams? maybe allow lower-rank battles that require you to meet a team limit and level cap, forcing you to keep low-level pokemon on standby at the gym. It's also common for people to challenge a gym, lose, then rework their team to better match the gym leader. Would be cool to see Jeff show up every day with more and more advantageous pokemon on his team. I'd also like to see there be a small bonus for being defeated since that's what gyms are for. If you get defeated X amount of times you might get demoted, but losing once isn't bad, and can teach you something. The main story is the only part I don't think needs much changing, it mirrors the simple story of a pokemon game, and really needs no changes. I like the new forms present, and the rules for what pokemon can and cannot be on your team make sense and are pretty fair. Overall a pretty cool fan game, a few bugs or glitches here and there aside it's a very respectable game. The fact that it's a fan game means it can take feedback to make the game even better over time. Excited to see what other cool fan projects will spawn.

    I gotta say I loved the naming scheme this time - deserts for actual ground types and desserts for non ground types was a stroke of genius Also, now that you mention it, I would love to see a hack where you play as a gym leader and opponents tend to build your team around things that you have trouble with. Essentially challengers act like players - they know what youll have and what works against that, so that’s what they bring. As you change your team, they figure out what works against that too

    I wonder if needing to keep a diverse range of levels would've kept it more interesting. Black and White 2 Cheren says they have to tailor their parties to how many badges their challengers have, so it would be neat if your reputation also factored in if the fights were "fair" or not, with needing to not exceed certain levels based on your opponents badge count.

    It's interesting how everyone I watched playing this game choose a different type! I tried a bit, but yeah, it's true that the gameplay loop gets boring. I initially though I'd go water type, but decided for psychic at the last minute, because I grew up with Pokemon Blue, which I played over and over and over. And psychic was so OP in gen 1 that I always had a psychic type in my team (even though gen 1 doesn't have that much options). So, in memories of the good (well...) old days, psychic it was!

    Have you had a chance to look at Pokemon Crystal Legacy? Seems like a perfect game to nuzlock. It’s not too difficult in comparison to the vanilla games but it fixes a lot of the issues gen 2 had. Give it a go.

    as for the ideas of how to better the gym lider aspect, you can still focuse on your town, but more in the sense to make it appealing for trainers and bring more general income to the city. for example, you can have a mode were you have a colosseum in your city, and npc can make bets against who will win, this battles could have gimmicks such as "the rival has a perma buff atk" or "all pokemon have a build in substitute." im other words, making crazy challenges to suppas with your team and gain reputation. you could also invite other pokemon gym liders and famous pokemon trailers and that could get you so much fame and reputation. also random events to participate in the pokemon league? all of the other ideas i vace seen are amazing, so this is my grain.
