Oh boy, time to talk about the Trinity. - So Aeon, Venus, and their mother are part of the Trinity, who are essentially a trio of goddesses. The church stage in the game where you fight Valentine and Double a lot is dedicated to the Trinity, and both Parasoul and Double worships them. - However, the Trinity are the ones who created the Skull Heart in the first place, hoping to turn the ladies of the Canopy Kingdom into Skullgirls, so they could use them to destroy the world. This is exactly what Squigly's and Parasoul's mothers was attempting to do when they became Skullgirls. It is currently unknown why the Trinity wants to destroy the world. - Marie has a strong heart, however, which is why the Skull Heart could not take control of her, and she instead pursues her own goals of destroying the Medicis of what they did to her and Patricia. Her lack of loyalty to the Trinity is what causes Double to turn on her at the end of Double's story mode. - Also, another reason to why Valentine at the end of her story mode wishes to become a Skullgirl, aside from atoning herself from what she did to Carol, but also to get a better look at the Trinity, hoping that her research will help the Labs in the future to bring them down for good. - Finally, there is a shocking revelation about Double and the Trinity, which will be revealed in one of the remaining story modes, which will reveal the true villain of Skullgirls.

On a side note: yes, Double is playable in Skullgirls before 2nd Encore was released. The only way to play her story mode back then was to clear the story modes of the other original release characters.

Aeon, Venus, and Lamia, the divine trinity, double's masters and the creators of the skull heart. Their worship is the principal religion of New Meridian and is who the Grand Cathedral is centered around. It is also heavily implied that you the player are either Aeon or Venus with your opponent being the other one.

Final thing, there was intent at one point to include a canon story mode that connected everything, however its existence depended on who won the DLC character polls. Unfortunately it required Umbrella, Dahlia, and Marie to win slots. All hope is not lost however, now that the mobile game has finished adding all of 2nd Encore cast, there are plans to add new characters there and potentially from there to 2nd Encore. Edit: With Umbrella having a release date and Dahlia being announced, I went and double-checked to see if that was all that was necessary. Turns out I forgot that Marie needed a slot too, sorry guys. Edit 2: ... Okay now we can get hype...

Double is one of the helpers of the trinity (the creators of the skullgirl), double protects the skullgirl until it unleashes into the city, when the skullgirl dies and no one takes the skullheart she will find a replacement, in squigly's story mode it is shown that double was looking for someone to turn into the new skullgirl in the past, squigly's mother turned into one, when she looks for cadidates if none of them are chosen they will be devoured by double as the ending shows, since all the characters you fought werent chosen to be a skullgirl they died in that timeline

Oh Koe... little do you know but the Skullgirl Story that we have now is actually the simple revised version of it. The old story that Alex was writing was going to be much more complex with more explanations on the Canopy Kingdom, the Gigans, Trinity, as well as have multiple alternate endings with characters taking the skullheart and using it. Due to time Alex had to chop out alot of stuff and tone down alot of the bloodier scenes... like how Peacock was first made to be slightly older and completely insane to the point where she would go on bloody rampages killing innocent people during the night ala Jack the Ripper style. Or how Filia was first planned to be friends with Ms.Fortune due to Samson knowing about the Fishbone gang. There's just a whole lot left on the cutting room floor and i suggest you look thru the Lore Wiki when you get some free time, a ton of cool cut characters and horror awaits.

As for other bits of dev lore, especially about other versions of the game done before Labzero was made... that was aquired personally from people who used to work with Alex

@@filiamedicii3652 No. MikeZ is the programmer. Alex Ahad designed and wrote the story of SkullGirls. It was his idea all the way back in 2006 where he was hopping from dev team to dev team trying to make the game before landing with Mike and his custom game engine he was building for roughly 12 years inspired by Marvel vs Capcom's gameplay.

Man the creator, Alex Ahad, should just make a web comic to show off the true ending

Actually this is exactly when you should play this story. After the base 8, but before eliza and robo. You are right on the money playing it now.

The girls at the end are the "gods" of the skullgirls universe, its just a game to them, they made the skullgirls because they were bored.

Three more characters to go: Eliza, Beowulf, and Robo-Fortune.

The character who holds the real ending is Marie. If she got in as DLC then she would hold the true ending. Those 2 Aeon and Venus are the masters yes and their goal is to destroy humanity if I remember correctly. They were supposed to be DLC to but ya know money :p and lack of backer support ig

Lack of backer support? They got enough donations to make 5 dlc characters and offered 32 different dlc characters those backers could choose to make. If they were planning on adding the true story based off only a few of them, it's no wonder we don't have the true story yet.

Webcam is kinda like toppings on an ice cream or a sundae, they're not strictly necessarily but they are objectively better and appreciated

14:39 If you're still wondering, Aeon is saying that each Story Mode route is a different branch of history. Basically, slightly different events unfold in each character's route - like Cerebella compacting Ms. Fortune, Filia wishing for Carol's freedom, and whether or not Painwheel can win against Valentine.

Webcam preferred. But anyway... Double's masters are the Trinity, whom you see at the end there. She mentions them in her fight quotes like "The Trinity has deemed you... *acceptable*." The cathedral stage is a church dedicated to their worship and you can see them on the stained glass windows. Aeon and Venus were even candidates for DLC characters! Their "mother" is implied to be or have once been a mysterious woman named Lamia, but that's about all we know. The specific origin of these "goddesses" is still vague. Anyway, thanks for another fun playthrough!

I've heard *supposedly* that the true *canon* story of Skullgirls, assumably the branch of fate where every timeline converge, will only be truly seen when Marie becomes a playable character, and we can see her story mode.

Now you choose to either play Eliza or Beowulf next, or idk (just lore wise, but if your play eliza next, please do Beo first before Robo Fortune, thanks) Edit: Actually play Beo first before Eliza, so you can learn abit about Annie, or Idk stick to the original words I said.😅

I have a mild fear of body horror and that ending where double grabs all the female fighters was horrifying.

Double is the "shadow" of the big bad,Lamia,who is the leader of the trinity,who commands Double to take care of the skullheart,so to destroy the human world. Why? Because according to Double:"humans are the real monsters". [SPOILERS] Apparently the trinity already had a kingdom in our world,BUT,that kingdom was taken by a "certain person",who killed Aeon and Venus,what happened afterwards is left for speculation.

Characters that were in Vanilla Skullgirls are Double, Filia, Painwheel, Cerebella, Parasoul, Valentine, Fukua(sorta I mean she is free.) and Ms Fortune

Double has a separate voice set that you can use by holding the up or down buttons when you have chosen her. Other characters also have separate voice sets such as parasoul, Peacock, big band and some others.

Aeon is the godess of time the snek on her waist is her parasite called khronos , venus is the goddess of space, her parasite abaddon is beyond human comprehension so it can appear out of nowhere, its also stated that venus may be more than her from , could be like a horrific monster but took the form of a young lady instead. And mother is basically the leader not much is known about her , humans on the skullgirls universe basically made a religion dedicated to them called trinitism .

I know I'm late but a Dev just said in skullgirls mobile chat that "Double is never neutral. She switches side from one to another" that's all I can remember

This is why we said Double for later. also all the timelines are different and the only one suspected to be the most canon is Eliza’s, but really in the end since we have no confirmation we can’t really treat it the exact same

OH BOY, 3 MORE TO GO, you can play Eliza now but i'd recommend saving it for last dude, is really worth it. Also i'd recommend playing beowulf before robo fortune because of Annie Anyways keep it up dude!

You gotta do Robo Fortune next, then Eliza. Robo Fortune, as non serious as it seems, will shed some light on what the Trinity hopes to accomplish, and Eliza will shed more light on why.

Hey, Koe, SG Fan from the future here. Need to clarify something, lore-wise, to set your mind at ease. Don't worry; I'll try to be quick: At the time it was released, Double's ending revealed that there was no "true ending". The lore remained relevant across the board, though. During the IndieGoGo campaign, which included a list of potential characters that supporters could vote on, it was revealed that specific characters would have to be playable before a path to the true ending could be considered. Long story short, the recent addition of Marie has completed that list. Her Story Mode also answers some questions, though voice acting has yet to be added. Still, whatever you learn about it won't be from me; you should experience it for yourself. ;) So we wait and see what happens next.

The skullgirl was made by the trinity or the gods of the world. And trinity was made by the trinity to be a puppet of the trinity, and doubles purpose is to serve the trinity and since skullgirls serve the trinity, double in turn will serve the skull girl... Atleast thats what i recall

Anyway, Eliza's story should clarify a little bit more about Double. You have at least seen from Squigly's story that she also manipulates the people of Canopy Kingdom for the Skull Heart's benefit, but Eliza's makes Double's background a bit clearer.

Also Double was in the Vanilla version of the game. In order to learn about her, you would have to beat the other characters stories first. Which makes sense because she has a lot of importance

Oh here we go.

The three at the end are the holy Trinity the gods of the universe and the ones who made Double so she takes traits from each of them. They also see the world like a video game, that they constantly reset whenever they want to entertain themselves which is part of the reason they made the skullheart. Also Double hates Eliza, if do Eliza's or Robo-Fortune's playthrough next there's an after credits scene for both of them

Yeah that's the thing with most fighting games. They just make a storymode so the player can have something else to do. They mainly focus on the mechanics, fighter designs, stages, music, and unlockables. Stories for Fighting games are usually thrown together for fun.

The only Double I trust is the Megaman one...

Well for one you missed that the girls have a Valentine mouse pad with..cushions right where you would expect an anime girl mouse pad to have them..also there are a lot of comics and books that have the various characters scattered around their jumbled up dimension where they are. The way they talk, to me, seems like they are stuck in a multiversal dimension nexus between different places since the way Aeon talks about the Joystick, she says it fell in from the 21st century. This is further supported by the fact they have floppy disk like from before the days of CDs in computers..all three types can be seen..the 8 inch floppy disk, the 5 and a quarter, and the 3 and half inch floppy disk, and right next to those are some VHS tapes. You can also see some old worn out looking scrolls along with some film reels for projectors..and hidden behind the TV is an N64 cartridge.

Noo, if no cam, where will be the big eyes and jaw drops. Bring back the caamm

The girls from the ending are basically the goddesses of this universe, the trinity people worship in the grand cathedral, even though that is not entirely addressed. Eliza is even more involved in this story, is good you played this story before Eliza's. There is a lot of lore that was cut out or not fleshed out due to lack of time. They definitely explained a lot these things in the mobile game, which is kinda surprising.

Now that you've played Double you should definitely play Eliza next!

As you can tell from the comments, (and chat from your Livestream) Double's, Eliza's, and Beowulf's stories are the bigger pieces to the story and lore of this world. For Double's story, you learn about the the creators of the Skull Heart. They're know as the Trinity, the goddesses who want to destroy humanity but it's not fully explained. We learn two out of three of their names, one is Aeon, the other is Venus, then finally there is their own mother. They go around the city to search for the new Skullgirl that the Heart chooses but if they're deemed unworthy, Double aka the Trinity absorbs the fallen fighter and learns their powers. (WOAH, that's a ton of information to remember. Hopefully, we at least helped you understand the lore a bit more Koe. Also the mobile version of Skullgirls, gives us more of the past wars and stories of the previous Skullgirls which is interesting. So hopefully you check it out whenever you can, also the mobile is a gacha game but it heavily rewards the player which I really like about it being free to play)

Robo-Fortune could be next. Eliza only makes it more confusing, Beo is not really connected.

Most people do doubles last because her story is context for a lot of events. Aeon and Venus can be seen on the walks of the Cathedral as the Trinity. Eliza explains more and Robo explains nothing and everything.

I had a character in mind that was a timelord of sorts and her design based on a hourglass, giving her a literal hourglass figure. But then I found out that Skullgirls did it first (T^T).
