I did the iPhone photo of the start code the first day. I would also suggest you practice it in the comfort of your garage, rather than having to do it first time, in a rainy, dark parking lot 500 miles from home.

Many 'locksmiths' don't know how to pick locks these days, but will happily still charge you to try. There are many less obvious places to hide the emergency key on the bike. Also a good idea to seal it in tape to prevent rusting.

I just followed my salesman's advice: get a copy of the emergency key made and hide it in an accessible spot on the motorcycle. I also followed his suggestion to print out a label with the start code and stick it to the inside of my right saddlebag lid. No worries!

You may be aware Traxxion has a video where he drills a small hole in the lid then puts a small plug in the hole. If locked out he removes the plug, takes a pen, etc. and hits the switch to open the door.

A suggestion...remove your hard key from the smart key and find a clever location to hide the hard key on your bike! I asked a tow truck driver to find my hard key, as a test, and he said it was not there, even after I told him where it was located! I disguised the key and it can be easily retrieved by me. Well Max at Traxxion Dynamics has the perfect solution. I purchased Max’s solution and installed it a few weeks ago and then left for a 3 week ride to Texas. So what is the solution? Traxxion Dynamics cabulation installation. It does 2 import improvements. First it takes the cable from the electronic solenoid that pulls the cable to open the side pocket door when you push the button with the key fob close. You simply remove the cable from the solenoid actuator route it down to the back top of the motor. The Kit comes with an anodized aluminum cable holder that allows you to reach down pull on the cable and open the door without the motorcycle operating or in this case if you had locked your key fob in the side pocket. No one will ever notice the cable and it ensures that you will always be able to open the side pocket and then open your gas tank cover. The second cool thing about the kit is that it gives you a cable that you attach to the actuator for the cubby box that holds your cell phone and it runs a cable down to the left side back top of the engine and uses the exact same aluminum black anodized cable holder. This allows you to open the phone cubby by reaching down and pulling on the end of the cable. it is also advised that you disable the push button on the cubby phone holder box, so that when it is shut, no one can push on the button and open the box. Once again, the cabling and its new location is so hidden on the bike that no one would know it was there. I have used it flawlessly for the past three weeks and I must say it solves the problem of having your side pocket door not open to put fuel in the motorcycle and it allows you to shut your cubby where no one can get to your cell phone. Neither one require using the key fob. I would advise anyone with a. 2018+ Goldwing go to the Traxxion Dynamic website and check it out. I will end with I appreciate Cruise Man, addressing this issue, but I think that. Max has all of us Goldwing owners a great way to solve this problem and lock the cubby with the phone. Best of luck to all. - James

So simple...just clip your smart key to your belt loop with a good clip. Don't put it in your jacket, or on your bike. Also...in Canada, new Goldwings come with 2 smart keys and also a spare emergency key. There's a couple great "secret" but accessible spots on the Wing to fasten this 3rd emergency key, using a small plastic zip lock bag and Gorilla Tape. Easy to cut an extra as well. To go one step further, I carry a couple of spare 2032 batteries with me whenever I'm put on the bike...just in case I get the warning, or my smart key dies while on the road. On long multi-day or multi-week trips, I bring along my 2nd smart key just in case I lose the 1st one...

A clarification. Honda's emergency start procedure requires both saddlebags to be open. The trunk does not have to be open, too. Check the owners manual in the Activating the Electrical System in an Emergency section.

Maybe someone else has done this too. I took a piece of ABS plastic and cut it to fit inside my glove box I attached it with double stick tape. It’s separates the two odd shaped spots in the front. I use those odd shapes now for my home keys and the other for my Goldwing key. Works perfectly for space that otherwise is useless

I had a similar experience with my 23 Triumph Tiger GT Explorer. I carry the smart key in my front right pocket on my riding pants. I guess I forgot to zip up my pocket and the key fell out somewhere on my ride home on a 200-mile trip. I stopped at a roadside park to stretch for a minute and of course shut off the bike. When I was ready to go again it would not start. After figuring out I lost the key I had to get my wife to drive 80 miles to come and pick me up and take my bike to my dealer. I didn't get an extra key when I bought my bike because they had to order it and it and hasn't come in yet. I definitely will be more careful when carrying my smart key in the future.

This truly feels like a made up problem. I groaned when you started to describe the issue. Most people. know better. We also keep a spare key well hidden on our long-distance tour bikes for these possible issues. Further, we all took pictures of that tag with our smart phone and then tagged that picture as a favorite. Further, I have an entry in my contacts that is this code. I keep the original on my dresser with my extra "stuff" and could call my wife from any phone anywhere and get her to repeat the code to me. Most people I know that own a Goldwing also keep a spare battery in their glove box. Oh, and I've discovered that keeping the key on the bike when stored keeps it alive much longer and I don't have to remember to turn it on or off. If I kept it on my keyboard next to the garage door it was close enough to the bike that the battery went flat in a couple of weeks or so. Keeping it on the bike seems to work just fine at home.

Had a similar experience except I accidentally left the ACC active when I left the bike for my work day. Came out after work and the bike battery was dead. Oh...and then discovered my fob key was no longer in the fob. Couldn't open the side bag to get to the battery, so a dispatched road assistant and I took about 45 minutes of trying to pry the side paneling enough to touch the jumper cables to the battery posts. Then trying to keep the paneling pried, the jumper cables connected, and starting the bike with only 4 hands. Finally got it started. Went to the local Honda motorcycle shop and orded three blank keys to have cut by a local motorcycle lock smith.

I later bought, and programmed a second SmartKey to bike, and also a second mini key for second SmartKey. And I keep a spare battery in my unlocked cubby, just in case. And pictures of my emergency start-up codes in my phone, which I always keep with me. Primary SmartKey in my front pant pocket all by itself. I think I have all my options covered.

To my knowledge, even if you had the key to use the mechanical lock to open the saddlebags, trunk, and start the bike using the codes, it still does not unlock the side compartment door. You need some sort of secret release (string/cable) for the side door pre-installed. (Traxxion/homemade) Also, if you put for active fob in your jacket and put your jacket in your trunk, anyone could start the bike. It's active. Bottom line: Just like your car, do not lock your keys inside. duh!

If you never turn off your fob, will the battery last for for a year when you do the smoke detectors? I don't think that my Grand America, nor KTM 1290 SAS's fobs have a shut off switch. The batteries last for well over a year. Maybe they go into a low power mode? (The batteries last long enough for me to forget how to change them.) My BMW has an emergency (passive) key that is hidden behind an access panel. The sweet spot prox sensor for it is on the gas tank. My Triumph fob can be switched off. Wow, I forgot to mention my Harley fob, but the bike can be started with your customizable PIN code.

Fobs can be kind annoying. I gave my wife a fob for the car and they she wanted to leave it in her purse locked in the car. That was frustrating. Depending where the receiver is and how sensitive it is, that can leave your car or motorcycle open to anyone. I can open the trunk with the switch in the bumper and the fob in my pocket. It is a problem because I like having the backup in case I somehow lost it and really don’t want to carry two keys in my pockets.

It did not come with the tag showing the emergency start procedure and, as you said, no second key fob. I traced the bike to the state where it was originally sold hoping I could get the Dept. of Motor Vehicles to tell me who the original dealer was. But, no luck. The DMV declined based on their privacy laws. I asked a Honda Dealership to pair a new key fob for me and they said it's not possible since it no longer has a left saddle bag. So, what are my options? Suggestions anyone?

Only an idiot would ever put any key fob in something lockable that is controlled and locked by that particular key fob. Put it in the center cubby that doesn't lock, and remove it when you want the bike to lock or keep it with you. Really isn't that complicated.

Dude, the 2018+ is awesome. It's a large comfortable sport bike with an adjustable windshield.

@cschym2705 AGREED...and the ride is INCREDIBLE ( except the seat, good for only 3 hours of riding comfort ), but the DCT is undeniably a superior bike. He owes it to himself to do a test ride on this 6th generation Goldwing. It convinced ME. 😊
