I am Finally a Pilot! My Entire Pilot Training Journey + Tips
Last week I finally passed my Private Pilot Checkride, so I am now officially a pilot!
But I never believed I could become a pilot! I am not a technical person, just the thought of piloting a plane always seemed way beyond me; I had very little confidence in my physical ability to fly a plane plus I was way too content with flying as a backseat passenger.
In this video, I am going to share with you my entire Pilot training journey and how things have changed since I started flying.
There are 3 key phases of flight training as a private pilot:
1. Fundamental of flights and solo flight
2. Cross Country flights
3. Exam Preparation
To obtain your private pilot certificate, you need to pass a written exam, an oral exam and a practical exam. In this video, I am sharing with you my experience on these pilot exams and some useful tips to help you. Further, I discuss the cost of getting a private pilot license, getting the right instructor and several key factors to help you throughout the training.
I have gained an enormous amount of satisfaction throughout my pilot journey. Once you make a good landing or break through a mental wall, the confidence will surge and every step you make is one closer to success! If I can do it, you can too!
I am now looking forward to gaining more air time with my fellow aviators!

The first solo. Where your brain splits in half. One half telling you that your going to die in a flaming wreck and the other have trying to convince you that you are trained for this and your instructor would never put you up alone if he though differently. I remember grinning ear to ear from rotation until flair. Almost forgot my downwind checklist. One moment in your life you wil never forget, Congratulations

Sam, CONGRATULATIONS...great video as always...I received my private pilot license at age 17...worked for six airlines in a 33 yr career. and still love every flight...FLY AS HIGH AS YOU CAN, AND NEVER LOOK BACK..

Congrats, you’ve now entered in to very elite club. Took my first lesson when I was ten, soloed on my 16th birthday and passed my private when I turned 17. Now just a FEW years later and just under 22k hrs in my book, I’m a retired corporate pilot. Enjoy the ride !!!

Congratulations Sam. Welcome to the pilot club. I vividly remember my private pilot check ride at Meadows Field Airport in Bakersfield. The DPE was constantly challenging me by creating distractions while I was flying the plane. I had to demonstrate that I could manage all cockpit operations through aviating, navigating, and communicating. It didn't "help" that my check ride was also on April 1 (April Fools Day).

I'm sure he could afford to continue to CPL/IR/MER/MCP/ATPL. But the flying hours required before getting hired in theUSA is far higher than in europe.

@@alinavadehqrdoha you can just “join” Qatar airways. You’d need to have 1,000’s of flight time as a commercial airline pilot. Qatar airways is a very prestigious airline so it takes a lot of time to become a pilot for them. Good luck!

This is great Sam, congrats and safe flights! It is my dream as well and this was inspirational. I want to ask you, how did you experience the RT part of the PPL learning. In busy airspace like LA it seems exceedingly hard to follow and understand what they are saying.

What do you think the second letter of PPL stands for? There are many kinds of pilot and piloting, but your flight sim definitely doesn’t count.

Sam, I know all about being up the night before the checkride. When I went for my checkride, I had been up for 24 hours straight pumped up in anticipation. Sailed through the check with no problems and became licensed on my 22nd birthday in 1965. Accumulated around 125 hours over the next few years with about 1/4 of it at night. Loved it but family and active military duty transfers required me to let it go. Now enjoying my retirement as a KZread pilot and following your adventures around the world.
