You just have to decide which game is more you (if you don't play both). Some people prefer WoW. I played it for 14 years. I loved my time in it. However, when I woke up and realized the thing I was most looking forward to was creating a glam in time to make the next Leap gate at Gold Saucer.... I knew I was--and am--a FFXIV player now. ✌😂 Eorzea is my home, and I'm loving it.🥰

For me, it's FFXIV. And for one reason only, the lore. I can spend literally 4-5 hours offline some days trying to find and reexplore the world, dungeons, dialogue, building designs and other small details to find out something about the lore of the game, how everything is tied together, what we could potentially see in future dungeons, raids, main story or even next expansion. And Square Enix gives a lore hunter sooo much to speculate and investigate. It itches my brain so fucking bad! 😜 And I love it.

This is pretty insightful to me because I had been playing ESO and FFXIV like crazy for a while. Most of my free time was taken up by one or the other, and I felt terrible in some way. My mind felt numb I didn't feel inspired I just kept logging in doing dailies in ESO or beast tribe quests in FFXIV. It felt like a chore more than actually enjoying myself, it was more like I was under control. I wasn't expecting this sort of thing from this video, but it really hits me in a good spot. Because I had dropped both games about a month ago now to play my backlog of games. I feel free doing all these other games and replaying things or trying new things.

Nice video! I used to play WoW a lot when I was younger. I eventually tried out FFXIV a few years ago and honestly, I much prefer it because it’s more relaxing. There is hardcore content for when you want to play more seriously, but there is a ton of casual content for when you just want to kick back and hang out in a beautiful world. I just feel like FFXIV is so much more respectful of my time and never makes me feel like I NEED to log in. I prefer XIV for that reason. Some people prefer WoW tho and that’s okay too. Everyone is different.

Maybe it's simply a matter of growing older but every time I try to jump back to WoW after a few years or so I don't even last the entire month before I unsubscribe again. It's as though I'm seeking something out of the game and it's not giving it to me, or rather what's giving me are the very things I do not want; I've had my share of burnouts in FFXIV as well after doing most of the game's content but in nine years I've never actually unsubscribed.

Brilliant, and the algorithm sent this to me on just the right day. Gave up WoW long ago and was suddenly finding myself unmotivated in FFXIV with nothing much to do after a year and a half of play other than tomestones and finally finishing Omega or going to try Eureka or treasure maps or something. The games are ancient - I sit here with a new top of the line gaming computer they don't challenge. I am ancient - I started playing vanilla WoW at age 52 and now I'm 69. Thanks for giving me the motivation to check whether my 6-month sub is about up. And for reminding me about those moments of discovery in games. From Zork on floppy disk in 1981 through today there have been lots of games that delighted me - while these 2 games have kind of come down, for me, after giving up serious raiding long long ago, to capping the tomestones or grinding the M+ at the start of the week. It really is more addiction than fun after a certain point, for me at least.

On the contrary, MMORPG has saved me financially. Rather than having to pour $60 or $70 into a new game that would last me 20 to 50 hours of gameplay, I only pay 1/3 of the cost monthly. I've been playing Video games as long as I remember since the late 80's. Needless to say, Video game is part of my lifestyle much like any other things I do outside of it. Thanks to MMORPG, I am able to keep with that. The only thing I concern myself is the amount of time I used to play when I was younger. Over the years, I have learned the moderation and FFXIV makes it so much easier to practice that.

Checking off boxes is something to do while listening to KZread videos such as this one. I, for one, have a hard time just sitting down and focusing on a KZread video; I get antsy. Also, playing a game to check off boxes gets pretty dull. When combined, however, both activities complement each other: checking off boxes gives me something to do as I listen to KZread videos.

Wow. Such a great video. What's strange is I was playing Nioh 2 the other day and I'm at the point where my character is overpowered so the whole game is easy. I thought about how much fun i had when I started the game fresh and thought about restarting but decided against it because "it's pointless because I'd be grinding all over again. I'd be wasting time getting stuff for a new character when I could be adding onto my main character." I subconsciously picked the more boring of the two just to get meaningless higher numbers on an already OP character. I need to play games for the fun instead of playing to see bigger numbers.

I've just been burned by WoW so badly (okay, yeah, thats dramatising a bit - just a bit...), I just want it to burn and be forgotten. And I didnt even touch Shadowlands. As for FF14, yes, I do my dailies and weeklies, I progg with my static... but the good thing is: if I dont do it, I dont lose anything. Whereas in WoW, if you dont you the grind, you fall behind. And people let you feel it, too. In FF14 I dont have that. Yes, I do the Tails, the tomestone cap, my island... but I also run the Endwalker alli raid on an almost daily basis, simply because I love doing it. Also, I cant enter the challenge: I dont have any other games, only MMOs (well, this one MMO ^^° ). The community is what made ff14 more my home than wow. Like I like raiding/dingeoning with friends in wow. But man do I hate how people get kicked for reasons like low dps or being new. As a new player just learning a low level dungeon, I got kicked 3 times because I didn’t know what to do, so I had to look up videos and even then, still had a bit trouble keeping or even seeing some of the mechanics shooting off. I refused addons because it was just a cluster to manage in the beginning. But ff14, I only ever experienced 1 toxic person ever. And even then they apologized at the end of the dungeon explaining that they were just feeling impatient that day in regards to sprouts… but you know what? We all accepted it, became friends and that was that. I love being welcoming and kind to people and seeing that in return. 99% of my experience in ff14 is soo freakin awesome with the community. But in wow for me it’s 50/50 where even the toxic stuff isn’t happening to me but someone else who joined in the dungeon.

Here's the kicker a lot of people get that same enjoyment. They had when they were kids from playing games like final fantasy. 😅 Set the end to the day. Who's to say we aren't feeling that way? I for one log on do what I wanna do and log off. I don't let people tell me how to play The Game. I do what I want to do in the moment. And I have fun doing it. I mean sure final fantasy fourteen has had its moments where it's got in a little stale for me. But that's to be expected with copy and pace content that pops up a lot. But that's usually when I switch my perspective of playing and do something else for half a year to an expansion..

In my line of work I see people with all kinds of addictions, most of them non functional but some function just fine surprisingly, with MMO’s people get addicted but I’ve only ever met very few "non functional" players while the rest all generally have jobs hobbies and partners 🙂 It really just sounds like you’re frustrated with the monotony which is fine but it happens with all genre of games.

I agree with what I expect is your primary assertion: the FFXIV vs. WoW debate is stupid and pointless--play whatever you like. I do take issue with some of the inflammatory language you use, which is typical of modern, common discourse. Accusing FXIV and WoW as being poisonous is not only unnecessarily inflammatory, it's also inaccurate and irrelevant. FFXIV and WoW are both designed for players to have fun. As you point out, one game tends to go a little further to try to keep players continuing to play their game, but I would not call either game toxic or poisonous by nature. The "poison" is of a player's own creation, when they allow their love of a game to alter their sense of reason and submit to group identity. Neither SE nor Blizzard are encouraging or enabling the fanboy camps. This issue of group identity isn't limited to FFXIV vs. WoW, video games, or even the USA. It is a human condition that has existed since civilization began. Maybe that should have been how to presented it. The other point that I feel compelled to address is your point that these games are "ancient." I don't see any relevance to this point. Do you disregard your grandparents or parents simply because they are "old"? Indeed, just because something is old doesn't mean it has no value. Like classic music, classic games, classic cars, classic moments in sports, age doesn't mean a thing if the thing itself is good. Bottom line: good main point, not exactly unique or shocking (I mean, those of us who are reasonable enough not to fall for group identity already knew this), but it never hurts to be repeated for the people in a bias-confirming echo chamber. Next time though, think a bit more carefully about other comments you're making. If you're going to point out that something like "these games are ancient," you had best make a good explanation as to why that's relevant to and supportive of your larger thought(s).

Wow vs. FF videos are very important to people who played both and need to decide what game they want to spend their money on.

As someone who played both, you haven't closed any debate my guy. Sure there are personal preferences one may enjoy, maybe you like the art-style of WoW iver FF14, maybe you prefer the open world that WoW gives you, maybe you prefer the banking system of WoW, all those things are subjective. You know what isn't subjective? Bad game design and a company not giving a shit. When a automated service can ban you with the same automated service then replying to your tickets after you got kicked for being mass reported by some douchebag, THAT isn't the way a game should run and this isn't 'personal preference' it is common sense. Next is story, anybody who tries to tell me that WoW story is better the FF14 needs to get off that copium. Here let me put up some story beats and you tell me where it is from: 'A group of indiginous hooved people who live in seperate tribes that do seperate things need to unite to fight against a looming threat. The most warlike of these tribes turns down the call for unity and instead heeds the call of the bad for the sake of power.' Did you guess: Highmountain from Legion? Ding ding ding! You are correct. Or did you guess the Ohn.ahran Plains from Dragonflight? Dingsding ding! You are correct once more! This doesn't even take into consideration the way they crippled my poor Horde with boot-licking cowards now being our leaders with all the choices we made back in BFA turning out to be exactly worth squat and shit. Honestly, WoW from its story-design, to the company behind it, to its playerbase is cancer. And that is why I quit WoW because I am sick of this koombayah horseshit. 'Durr! But FF14 also preaches peace between factions!' Yes, yes it does, it also was never a selling point of the franchise unlike in World of WARcraft. Add to that, that the peace between... Ahem... Endwalker Spoilers, so if you haven't finished the .0 of this newest Expansion, then look away... .. Ready? The peace between the Garleans and the Eorzean Alliance wasn't something that just happened over night, it was fraught with difficulties and distrust on both sides after hundreds of years of abuse that both sides endured. It EARNED it's peace, unlike this Horde and Alliance peace that was forced on us and not only that, the way they treated both sides was that neither side was evil, but both sides did shit they had to atone for, which the Eorzean Alliance first did before focusing on Garlemald. Unlike with the Alliance who get a free pass for all the shit they did while the Horde is beaten over the head and treated like the villains when the Alliance has done worse. Honestly, fuck WoW.
