I am confused by California Adventure | State of DCA report 07/03/24
It's like I'm living in opposite world. Just when I think I know what DCA is (or isn't), the opposite happens and I'm left wondering if I know anything at all. We had a fascinating day in the park as we went through every land, and every attraction as part of our State of DCA report. Highs and Lows. Good and Bad.

You nailed it on the head about the difficulties of DCA in the heat. Getting to Pixar Pier is punishment mid-day. With the lack of vegetation and abundance of concrete, there is a lot of thermal mass and I generally avoid that park in the summer until after the sun goes down. We jokingly call it "Disney Concrete Adventure". The loss of Bug's Land was a big blow for places to escape the sun.

Yes! Cars Land at least leans into the hot Arizona theme, but Avengers Campus and Pixar Pier don't even try to provide shade.

Epcot also is a concrete expanse. They took out the central fountain (of nations?) and the water pool in front of energy pavilion. They’ve got the Moana water deal, and that helps. But still need more water and shade. It’s brutal. Good that it rains so much in Florida. ;)

Disney Concrete Adventure I'm dead😂
Animation Academy is so underrated and such a fun thing to do, and that room of screens is really pretty with all the animations and music. It's also nice and cool in there. It's the kind of thing I wish Disney would do more of. These little shows and bits of entertainment.
DCA is brutal due to the lack of trees.
Avengers Campus is a noisy concrete heat sink. Bugs Land was cool and timeless and a getaway from the craziness. Candy Corn! Miss you Heimlich.😢

Agree, we had small kids and always had a great time in Bugs Land, it was fun and lush and creative. Will never forget the popsicle stick benches! There is no replacement as far as a kid-friendly area with small rides at DCA, such a weird omission strategically.
We saw you this day at the Toy Story parking lot and you were very nice to us, our daughter was freaking out because she watches every video you post (we do too) and before we came for this trip she would take notes based on your comments 😂 she was so scared to ask for a picture so we asked you and you were happy to do it, that made her whole trip to Disney the best one she said because she got a picture with you (we’ve been many times before but never ran into you) thank you Fresh Baked!
David, it finally hit me who you remind me of as a Disney character!. You can you remind me of Professor Emelius Brown from “Bedknobs and broomsticks”, the physique, the way you move, and even many of your expressions.
Your convo about the heat and uncovered queues answers your question about why dca is more busy in the evening. Also, David + Maters = absolute GOLD
Be headed there in Sept and I have been devouring your content. My goal: to be able to shout, “FRESH BAKED!” as we pass each other in the park!😂

FRESHBAKED is DISNEYLAND. Love to listen to David talk about the park! Just rewatched the Disenyland Construction update, GOOD STUFF!
I think Disneyland is busier during the day because it attracts kids. California Adventure is busier at night because it attracts more teenagers.
The Cast Members are the Magic!
I bought a single day one day one park ticket when I was in California. I did one day at Disneyland, one day at DCA and one day at Knots. It was awesome! Animation Academy was a must do for me when I went.
Hi David thanks for another great DCA update.
David, thank you for all you do with your channel! You inspire me to do similar work! I'm a creative, detailed person and I grately enjoy your detailed state of Disney and construction reports. I find your content fascinating. It helps you are a great host! Many blessing to you and your sweet family. 🙏
My fiance and I bought a ticket for one park a day for two days, one DCA and one Disneyland this upcoming Mid-August for our honeymoon.
We do it every year. One full day at DCA and two at Disneyland. This year we are adding Oogie Booge to that. Now- I admit- my park strategy always, is to let Disney surprise me and I have rarely been disappointed. Also- this year we have the dicount tickets, so I can be happy to stand in a line, or sit with a beverage and drink in the vibes. Definitely a vibe girl.
Disneylands indoor or mostly indoor heavily themed queues are amazing. Then you go to DCA where you might as well be at Six flags. Little to no queue theming and it’s almost completely outdoors. It makes a huge difference to the overall vibe.
I'll vouch for DCA being a full day park. With queues out the wazoo for RSR especially and as someone who doesn't get Genie+, there's just more waiting involved for the fewer attractions the park has.

And this is one of the reasons I am a nighttime visitor to the parks. I've never enjoyed the heat, nor being beaten by the sun (unless I plan on getting soaked). DCA, two plus decades later, still feels like an oven anytime the temperature rises. Also, as noted, the crowds arrive when the temps start to lower / sun heads down.
My husband & I love DCA. We have bought single day tickets to DCA & spent a whole day there! It was also a super rainy day in February and it was amazing because DCA was soooo empty and we got to ride some of our favorites over and over and over!
The best in the hour commentary on Toy Story was hilarious 😂. Good stuff as always Fresh Baked!
You give the Best information thank you for all you do
Great state of DCA report as always! I still think the cars land attractions are great 12 years later :). Still need to try the food at Aunt Cass. Keep up the good work! Thank you, David and Liz! FreshBaked! 😊😊👍🏻👍🏻
And thanks for the video!
I thought Maters would make me sick and after maybe a decade of ignoring it I went on it and omg!! It’s sooooo fun and I get zero motion sickness. One of my fav rides, just makes you laugh 😂

I remember when I was younger being scared of it as well. But my friends forced me to get on once and I realized it wasn’t bad at all. The only thing that sucks is when the floor is all bumpy. Also I hope it’s true that they are starting construction soon on the e ticket ride for avengers campus
I loved hearing your joy on goofy sky school!
I just love you!! Classic music is life! I can work better, think better, and be grateful for life!
I LOVE Cars Land, especially during the light up event!
David thank you for he report we were there last week the only things i like in DCA are Soaring and Carsline
It's cooler and you can also come and enjoy an adult beverage. It's not a bad way to spend an evening.

@@WindowtotheMagic True, but you can't walk around with your beverage. Also, it's offered at way fewer locations.
Was there at the end of May and it was so packed. Did find Pixar Fest underwhelming. But cast members were amazing!
Your reactions on Sky School are absolutely priceless!
In March, my daughter and I did single day for each park. We opened the park and stayed until our 12:30 Carthay Circle lunch. Then we went back to the hotel for a few hours and got back between 4-5. We had tickets for the WOC Dessert Party, so we ate and hung out and then left for the night. But you're right. It's definitely not a full day park for me.
No park is as densely and heavily planted as Disneyland. Of course, they’ve had many years to grow it all in. It’s integral to the magic, the hideaway vibe. The escape.
I have to say - there are few sounds more joyous than David riding Goofy’s Sky School. Another great State Of report!
DCA is a fine park that I very much enjoy spending the whole day. Before I had a key I didn’t believe in hopping. So yes I bought a single day for that park. And just last month my friends who had never been did the same and I toured them around.
I like watching your KZread channel and by the way, I will be at Disneyland, July 27
I look forward to these all the times. It gives me my Disney Craz until I go again. From Utah
When we were there Sunday it was a lot slower. A lot of the lines was thirty minutes or less. The big rides were 45 minutes or less. I think Disney is in trouble.

27:35 RadioRacer clue is AWESOME!!!
I do not miss a stop at animation academy!! I’m so sad to think my next visit won’t be! Also it’s soooo hot. We need that building. Why does Disney hate us?!?
Not until I had kids did I dedicate a full day at DCA. It can get exhausting hopping with little kids (I had 2 under 3) and when they nap half the time it eats up so much time that hopping is unrealistic. Another thing I didn't do until I had kids was ride Mater's and Luigi's. I always assumed they were little kid, unthrilling, rides. But they definitely took me by surprise! My son loves them both and now so do I! Also they're usually busy in the mornings when we rope drop.
Avengers campus is a total joke. The ride is garbage. The entire land consists of cement with absolutely no character, water or movement. Then they went and got rid of the only two shows that made anything out of this ridiculous area. The only way this area can be saved is if they build the most incredible e-ticket attraction ever. And it needs to be an indoor roller coaster. The end.
@grantj1803
20 күн бұрын
I somewhat agree with you. Avengers Campus couldn't thrive unless that e-ticket attraction was already built. They never should've canceled the original concept for the e-ticket. Yet Iger keeps prioritizing the avatar experience more than the Avengers e-ticket. I hope D23 will announce something regarding that soon.

When we come in August, we are doing one day in Disneyland and one day and DCA, no park hopping
Can't speak for everyone, we got clam chowder at Sokio last saturday, June 29th. the Asian slant on San Francisco clam chowder isn't cutting it for us. The Harbor Galley is the place for traditional bread bowl San Francisco style clam chowder. Also, their chocolate chip cookies are to die for. Love Fresh Baked. Your happy upbeat attitude always brings Disney magic!!!
@freshbaked, For the baymax meet and greet, are they still switching off between baymax &hiro and just hiro or have enough guests complained yet so that baymax is always part of the meet and greet?
We love Mickey's PhilharMagic! ❤
I did single day single park DCA a couple years ago. The place I was staying had construction going on for a day and I needed to get out. It was the holiday season and that was all that was available. Better than not being in the parks at all. And a very fun day.
I believe it’s because of the hotel guests. When you stay on property you have the luxury of taking a mid day or evening break back in your room. That’s what we do. Also especially if you’re taking advantage of the 30 minute extra early entrance before rope drop. You’re there SO early that you’re exhausted by 3 or 4. So that’s my guess
Maters is a laugh out loud experience. I love it
Yes, I have bought a single day DCA ticket... I'm just obsessed with Tower of Terror (RIP) and Incredicoaster, so IMO it's a more fun one day ticket for young adults. And when I've taken my family, we do the four day single park tickets and spend two at DL and two at DCA.
I'll throw my hat in for DCA as a full-day park. Preferred the CA theming but it's a fun park you can spend all day in.
We purchased a one day pass for DCA but it was during food and wine. We did end up all day there and had a blast
I did , one day one park for DCA . All stand by
My poor building! This is like my favorite building in all of DCA. I mean, I can understand why they might get rid of them, but it was my favorite place in all of DCA. I'll miss it.
38:34 great timing how right after the lady in the hat raises her hand
Visited from Guam June 21 - One day pass for Disneyland and June 22 - One day pass for DCA. No hopper. Did an early (4:30pm) dinner at Storytellers Cafe. Purchased their roped-off, reserved viewing area for World of Color. Great time, well worth the extra cost. It was a hot couple of days. We were all wiped out.
Love the Animation building
Yeah, don't give them any ideas. Just good ideas. Let's give them good ideas. Thank you for your videos.
A cast member told me two days ago that the right side of guardians is under refurbishment till August 24
I so wanna fly out there right now
We do animation studio multiple times in our 5 day trips. I love it.
57:40 Grizzly is one of my Favorites, BEST of my 2 worlds. Disneyland, and the Mountains!! Both are places I like to go to relax and put the world on hold... David is right this a great line to wait in! I HATE the Cars ride line, so noisy hard to quiet your mind and relax or have a conversation.
I agree Tow Mater’s is the best. So fun! It’s a fave. And the songs crack me up.
My family have done DCA only over a 1 day Disneyland entry. We done the main park so many times, we just want something different. Plus we notice that less young families, more older families go to DCA. And you could, in the past, buy alcohol at DCA only.
I feel like a Friday is not a typical DCA day for most families. I feel like most start their multi day trips on either Monday or Friday. If you do a 3 day pass and do DLR, DCA, then DLR then your biggest DCA days would be Tuesdays and Saturdays. This is just a theory, maybe its accurate, maybe not.
I saw you at DCA today
I’m so sad about the August 5th closures. My daughters are obsessed with Crush and Anna and Elsa, and Space Mountain was the attraction we were prioritizing as number one 😭
Every time I go to Disneyland/DCA I get 3 day park hopper tickets, which is several times a year. Typically we start at Disneyland, and once we get in the greatest park in the world we don't want to leave... So after dinner we head over to DCA as it closes before Disneyland to get a few rides in. Then head back over to Disneyland to close the park. I find we do that 99% of the time. But now watching this video I think we should change to after lunch head on over to DCA then close Disneyland. Thanks!
Well it sounds like people are going to DCA in the mornings and evenings to avoid the hot queues and lack of shade in the afternoon
I have purchased a one day ticket for DCA last year to see Rogers the musical, I’m so glad I did. But you are correct DCA is not a full day park and I don’t feel it’s fair to charge the same price to go there as Disneyland!
@heathertimothy5571
24 күн бұрын
Right? I hadn't even thought about the price. When we went on Memorial Day weekend, my husband and I did DCA (with the exception of Luigi's and the rides for the really little kids like Critter Carousel) completely from like 10-5. We left way before sunset, and I didn't even feel bad.
32:20 when you mentioned Guardians, I am imaging hydrating/ drinking water while standing in 95 min partially outdoor queue in the heat, then u get into the vehicle and have to pee!!!
When we go we buy the one day one park ticket for 3 days. We always end our last day at dca. We go once a year so we rope drop to close at Disneyland both days. So by day 3 we are exhausted. On day 3 we rope drop DCA head out for lunch and a nap come back around dinner to finish up and watch world of color.
We did one park for DCA but we had to leave by 3:00 pm that day.
Thanks!😋
Soaring, Toy Story, cars, mater, river ride, monsters and that’s it. It’s not a full day park. I do like Ghirardelli’s!
Would love for you to cover shows/entertainment, or lack of, at Disneyland and DCA. Very disappointing and sadly not much left. I used to advise families to take in all the shows, it was a great way to cool down, relax and take a break.
I am so sad Animator studio is closing a week before my trip. I really enjoy that and that's a nice place to go when it's super hot. DCA is so hot and it doesn't seem to have many places that you can get a break from the sun
👋 I have purchased single day tickets for DCA! Before becoming magic key holders. We would frequent DCA and dca only! We are Pixar and Marvel fans

Temporarily
Typically with Soarin’ i will do it first thing or not at all. It’s one that always seems to get long and stay about an hour.
I always spend 2 whole days in DCA… I really enjoy it and still don’t get everything done
@Disney #DCA The Pixar food IS/WAS SO LACKLUSTER. Maybe I’ll go as far as, it’s bad! Cmon #Disney.
I’m watching your video on a Wednesday at 3:20 (California time) and the wait for Soaring is 90 minutes 1:01:04
Don't quote me, but I think what happened with inside out was that the Bing Bong line and the song went viral on tik tok for a period of time. This led to me, and probably many more, figuring out where the song came from and ultimately watching what we thought would be a kids' movie, but then it resonated with a lot of younger adults.
It must have been summer of 2010, but my youth group from church went to DCA on a one day ticket. But yes I have gone to DL on class trips with a single ticket a lot more than DCA
I love Turtle Talk and Animation Academy!!! 😩 Is this a permanent closure?! I loved Beasts Library too. 😢
It's incredibly hard to find a family friendly movie right now whether theatre or cable/stream. Pretty sure that helped Inside Out 2

It's very simple David why DCA is more busy at night. It's alcohol. Yay for alcohol and getting drunk and going on rides. The wife and I smuggle in vodka and buy non-alcoholic versions of drinks and mix our own drinks. The non-alcoholic versions of drinks are usually about $10 to $12 cheaper than the alcohol versions
I just talked to the bartender at the Tavern at Earl of Sandwich an update on the relocation. They are going to stay in the spot according to the bartender until the end of December at least they’re not sure what’s going to happen yet at the first of the year.
Maybe it’s that families that only go one for day decide on Disneyland and don’t make it to evening but never make it to dca?
How does Disney update the wait times? Is it the cast members who work the queue? Or is there a control room they monitor from and do it there?
I think DCA is busy at night because of alcohol. A lot of magic key holders getting after work dinner and drinks.
We didn’t see Turtle Talk in like Little Mermaid too
